The Reverend A.H. Mulkey came to Medicine Lodge in March, 1879, representing a Christian Colony of over fifty families. "The colony is composed of members of the Christian Church and will arrive here in the early part of the season to decide on a permanent location." Then on April 10, 1879, the Medicine Lodge Cresset carried the following story: "THE NEW COLONY....At a joint meeting of the citizens of Medicine Lodge and members of the Disciple colony...the following resolutions were offered and adopted: Resolved: That we the people of Medicine Lodge and vicinity hereby tender our heartfelt thanks to B. A.H.Mulkey for the untiring energy and zeal he has shown in inviting and securing settlement inour county, and that we also congratulate him on his success and welcome those whom he has brought among us, and we furthur promis him our heaby support in the future. Resolved: That after careful examination of the locality selected for the colony, we found it fully equal to our expectations and that confidence we have reposed in Bro. Mulkey has been fully justified. The locaton of the colony was present day Sharon.

FIRE DESTROYS PORTION OF SHARON MAIN STREET

Fire caused by some burning trash in the rear of the buildings destroyed a portion of the Sharon Main Street on Thursday afternoon. The structures burned were the Knights of Columbus building and one owned by E. S. Rule. The buildings were in the southwest block and housed a cream station and beer parlor. Although the buildings did not burn to the ground, spectators' say it was about the same as a total loss. Some damage was done to a few other buildings.
In speeding to the aid of the Sharon fire department, the Medicine Lodge fire truck broke down and had to be pulled into town.
