Dorothea Myrtle (Mathew) Wilson

1908 - 2007

Dorothea Myrtle Wilson was born on October 10, 1908 in Sharon, Kansas, the daughter of Bert Mathew and Nora (McKeever) Mathew. She lived in Sharon, then in the Kansas City, Kansas area during her early years. She moved back to Sharon with her McKeever grandparents and graduated from Sharon High School.

On April 4, 1931, Dorothy, as she was known to family and friends, was united in marriage with Ray Wilson at Wellington, Kansas. To this union three daughters were born: LaRay, Jane and Nora.

Dorothy lived her adult life in Attica, working in the local restaurant and motel until retiring and moving to Harper, Kansas. After retiring, she finally had the opportunity and time to get involved in several organizations. She was a member of Rebekah Lodge, Genealogy Group and EHU, until she moved to Kiowa, Kansas. She enjoyed taking trips with these organizations and was always ready to hop in the car and go anywhere. Since she never learned to drive, she always enjoyed the opportunity to go with any of her friends and family. She attended the Kiowa Southern Baptist Church, after she moved there. While living in Harper, she attended the Christian Church.

Dorothy had a kind soul. She loved nature and flowers. But most of all she loved her family.

On February 22, 2007, Dorothy passed away at the Kiowa Hospital District Manor at the age of 98 years, 4 months and 12 days. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray in 1963; one daughter, LaRay in 2006; one grandson, Scotty Duvall; and one great grandson, Nicholas Keith Duvall.

Dorothy will be deeply missed by her two daughters, Jane VanRanken of Kiowa and Nora Collier and husband, Carter of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; eight grandchildren: David and Betty Duvall of Anthony, James and Rodgina Duvall of Kiowa, Lonnie and Rose Duvall of Holcomb, Bill and Debra Duvall of Kiowa, Susan Duvall of Wichita, Angie and Samuel Garcia of Arvada, CO, Jodi and Bob Leitner of Castle Rock, CO, and Shawn and Tracy Collier of Wichita; fourteen great grandchildren: BJ, John, Misty, Nathan, Bridgette, Terry, Rex, Jamie, Christina, Erica, Joey, Jace, Alex & Abbi; one great-great grandson, Bryce; and a host of other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held on Monday, February 26, 2007 at Southern Baptist Church in Kiowa, Kansas with Pastor Ken Bowden officiating. "Amazing Grace," "How Great Thou Art" and "Love Lifted Me" were sung by Monty Williams, Gary Watts, Jacob Davis, Mick Gillig and Craig Mott. They were accompanied by Leesa Mott.

Casket bearers were Bill Duvall, James Duvall, David Duvall, Lonnie Duvall, Rex Duvall, B.J. Duvall, Nathan Duvall and Shawn Collier. Burial was at Attica Cemetery, Attica, Kansas.

Memorials in memory of Dorothy may be given to Southwind Hospice, Kiowa Southern Baptist Church or Kiowa Hospital District Manor, and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
