Edward J. "Eddie" Gehlen, age 53, died Saturday, March 24, 2007 in Wichita. He was born August 7, 1953 at Sharon, Kansas, the son of Charles and Helen (Youngers) Gehlen. Eddie was a resident of Medicine Lodge most of his adult life. He worked in the oil field for 34 years, most recently employed by Duke Drilling. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medicine Lodge.He is survived by two brothers, Arnold and Sharon Gehlen, Sharon; and Raphael and Lurinda Gehlen, Medicine Lodge; six sisters, Sister Lillian Gehlen, Kansas City, MO; Alma Weber, Goddard; Delores and Kenneth Hudson, Nashville; Catherine and Leonard Wooten, Wichita; Virginia and Jim Horn, Wichita, Elizabeth and Bill Mosiman, Moundridge; and a sister-in-law Colleen Gehlen, Atchinson; a host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Alphons Gehlen, and a niece Shelley Gehlen.
Eddie was a frequent visitor to Cedar Crest Manor. He enjoyed visiting and playing cards and working puzzles with the residents. He also enjoyed watching youth softball and fishing. He was a wizard at the claw machine and kept nieces and nephews and many other children supplied with the stuffed animals he won. He had many friends and no enemies. He will be remembered fondly by his many friends and neighbors.
Mass of Christian Burial was on Tuesday, March 27 at Holy Rosary Church with Rev. John Strasser presiding. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
