James Allen Rogers Claimed By Death

This community was saddened by the death of Mr. J. A. Rogers in the Anthony hospital Friday night. He was a resident here for 54 years, 50 years of this time was spent on the same farm. Mr. Rogers' death was not unexpected as he had been in failing health for the past two years. He is survived by his wife and eight children.

Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church, Sunday at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. H. R. Young in charge. A mixed quartet composed of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Dunkin, Mrs. Lonnie Skaggs and Glenn Werner sang, "Abide With Me," "In the Garden" and "Till We Meet Again." Pall bearers were; E. J. Grigsby, Homer White, R. L. Mitchel, F. L. Gangler, Walter Pulliam and Ralph Owen.

Interment was made in the Sharon cemetery.

James Allen Rogers was born in Elijay, Ga., April 17, 1851 and departed this life at Anthony, Kansas, February 3, 1940, at the age of 88 years, 9 months and 17 days.

He was married to Ellen Tatum at Elijay, Ga., in 1874, to this union 13 children were born, five of which preceded their father in death, he is survived by his wife and 8 children; two sons, J. W. of Portland, Ore., and A. D. of Walla Walla, Wash.; six daughters, Mrs. Osa Byers and Mrs. Dora Hendricks both of Sharon, Mrs. Myrtle Chapin, Medicine Lodge; Mrs. Clara Ritchie, Wellington; Mrs. Letha Swanson, Pasco, Wash.; Mrs. Ruby Herrick, Alva, Okla.; a brother, Fate, Elijay, Ga., 26 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Mr. Rogers was a charter member of the Sharon Baptist Church and served as a deacon of the church for many years, he and Mrs. Rogers were two of the pioneers of this community. His cheerful disposition and ready humor made and kept many friends and his cheerfulness never left him in this life, though ill for some time he insisted on going about among his friends as usual. He will be greatly missed by all.
