Opal Beulah Herman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Herman of Crisfield, Kansas, was born February 16, 1917 at McPherson, Kansas. She passed away April 9, 1940 at her home, at the age of 23 years, 1 month and 24 days. She leaves to mourn her death her father and mother and sister, Velma and three grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Herman of Attica and Mrs. Geo. Shaw of Florida, five uncles, two aunts and numerous other relatives and friends. She was converted when just a child and united with the Methodist Church at Crisfield, later united with the Assembly of God Church at Sharon, of which she was a member until her death. Opal was a faithful and conscientious worker in the church as long as she was physically able. She was always more than willing to forward anything that was for the cause of Christ who had so sweetly revealed Himself in her life. This interest in the church and God was a great inspiration for others.
During her years of suffering she endured it all so patiently. She knew the real value of a smile and kind words. When one stepped into her room you could not feel as though you were entering a room inhabited by a sick one because her bright smiling face and sweet disposition filled her room with sunshine.
Having known Opal and enjoyed her sweet fellowship she was left a vacancy in our lives as that as a dear loved one. Though Opal has gone and is safe in the arms of her Savior, her life will never cease to be a blessing to her many acquaintances.
Miss Herman wrote the following poem when she had been an invalid for about a year and through the remainder of her life her many friends remembered her with many tokens.
A Token Of Appreciation
Here is a token
To my dear friends,
Whose love seems the kind
That never ends. For tho I have been sick
Now over a year,
They remember me yet
In ways that are dear.I, at Christmas, received
So many nice things,
And a grateful thanksgiving
In my glad heart rings. And not long ago
I had a birthday,
When presents and greetings
Came to brighten my way.Since fate has decreed
That sick I must be,
I thank God for friends
That remember me.And among all these friends
Is the Saviour of love,
Jesus, who's watching
Each day from above.Words fail to tell
How grateful I feel,
To have all these friends,
For they mean a great deal.
