Robert "Bob" D. Garten, age 83, died Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at Medicine Lodge Memorial Hospital, Medicine Lodge.He was born December 27, 1922 at Medicine Lodge, Kansas, the son of Franklin "Frank" Garten and Arvilla (Farley) Garten. A lifetime resident of Medicine Lodge, he was a farmer/stockman. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during WWII. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Medicine Lodge, Veteran of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Barber County Cattleman’s Association, Medicine Lodge Saddle Club, all in Medicine Lodge, and was past president of Farm Bureau Board.
On May 2, 1948, he married Donna Baier at Medicine Lodge. She survives. Other survivors include a son Steve and his wife Bev, Medicine Lodge, and a daughter Cathy and husband Clay Axline, Medicine Lodge, 7 grandchildren, Michael Axline, Justin Garten, Matthew Garten, Julie Brown, Mike Brown, Greg Axline, and Josh Axline and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and Harold Garten.
Funeral service was held on Saturday, December 9, 2006, at United Methodist Church, Medicine Lodge, with Pastor Frank DeFisher officating. Burial was in Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge, with military honors provided by Fort Riley Color Guard.
