It is provided with three large cold storage rooms, a 12-ton ice plant, ice cream mixer, pasteurizer, churn, two late improved "Emery-Thompson" brine freezers with a capacity of five hundred gallons of ice cream per day, and other up-to-date conveniences too numerous to mention. This business was established in 1919. It has had a substantial growth from the first and now enjoys a broad patronage in Kansas, Oklahom,[sic] Missouri, and Illinois. Their products are made amid the most sanitary surroundings and conditions, and in quality and purity cannot be excelled. They buy cream from farmers of the surrounding territory, also maintain a number of cream-buying stations in Missouri, Oklahoma, and Kansas. S. B. Apple is Secretary-Treasurer and General Manager, and G. E. Butt is assistant manager. Mr. Apple is also Superintendent of Schools and President of the Baxter Springs Kiwanis Club. He is one of the representative citizens and business men of the county, and an enthusiastic advocate of all measures advanced for the public good.

present ownership since August, 1921. T. H. Bowman, the proprietor, is thoroughly accomplished as a florist and horticulturist, having been connected with this line of work all of his life. Here is grown all kinds of flowers, summer or winter, and a specialty is made of roses, carnations, violets, chrysanthemums, potted plants and cut flowers and floral designs for all occasions. In point of construction and physical equipment, the Baxter Greenhouse is considered the very finest in the district, and one of the best in the entire State. The houses contain about 15,000 feet of glass and no detail is missing to make of the establishment a leader in its line in this section of the country. This business is located on West 12th Street (the concrete road leading to Picher). Mr. Bowman is one of the most enterprising, wide-awake and progressive citizens of the city, and has many friends in all walks of life.
