COUNTY FORMATION

McPherson County was created in 1867 from Unorganized Terrority. County Seat: McPherson was founded in 1870. Area: 900 Square Miles. The city and county of McPherson were named for General James Birdseye McPherson, the highest ranking Union officer to die on the battlefield during the Civil War.
