Topic: Lacy, Miller, Uptergrove
From: Alice
Date: Wednesday, November 17, 1999 05:45 AM

I have an unusual request. I have been doing Genealogy for over 26 yrs & have found this is the best way to get true help.
In 1975 my name was Alice F. Lacy. I moved from Independence, KS in Aug. 1975 to Kiowa, KS. I lived at 411 Miller St, Kiowa, KS & had a P.O. Box, but do not remember the number. In Nov. 1976, I married Gary Uptergrove. In Nov/Dec 1976 I sent a letter with pictures in it to Harold & Esther Miller at 1113 W. Maple, Independence, KS. I did not know that they had divorced, moved away & their forwarding address had expired. I just recently found this out. The pictures were never received by either Harold or Esther. I moved in Jan. 1977 from Kiowa & lived in numerous places, so if the letter had been returned to me, it probably would never have found me. Jerry, their son & my former husband was killed in an auto accident in Feb.1979. The pictures were of him. It is very important to me to find them. I realize that 23 years have passed since they were mailed, however, stranger things have happened. And only those who do Genealogy would ever believe that the pictures could be recovered or found.
I appreciate your kind assistance with this problem. Yes, I have filled out the paper work for the Post Office twice & did not even receive a reply. Thank you so much.

Searching for any information on Elisha Elmer McHaley, spouse Alta, and daughter Edna. These ancestors were listed in the 1920 census of Montgomery Co. I am hunting any relatives of Preston H. & Mary E. Feltz who died in Tyro in 1915. I know they left behind several daughters. I do not know if they stayed in Kansas or went to Indiana with their uncle. Preston was my greatgrandmother, Lizzie Feltz Randolph's, brother. Preston & Mary are buried somewhere in Montgomery County. I think in separate cemetaries. They had a young son who died at the same time. When I relocate the information I will post it. I have a Tyro paper that had their tragedy printed on the front page. I also have some papers on The Tyro Vitrified Brick Company around 1913. Preston was also a U.S. Marshall for some time. And he worked for Baur Glass out of Eaton, Indiana.

All of my MUSSON,RHODES,DOYLE and CLINGAN roots trace through ELK CITY, MONTGOMERY COUNTY, KS. I know a lot about my MUSSON, RHODES and DOYLE ancestors but have run into a roadblock on my CLINGAN ancestors. I am looking for descendants of Adonijah CLINGAN or his siblings. Adonijah made it to Elk City in 1881. I can trace him back to Hubbard OH. I think his father was named Deacon, but that may have been a title in the church. His daughter, Lydia, married John Wesley Rhodes, probably in Elk City. I am also looking for a marriage date. I am looking for any information to identify Adonijah's mother. I think all of Lydia's surviving siblings, except John, made it to Elk City. They were Nellie, Charles, Frank and William. I would appreciate any help anyone can give me on these issues. I would be happy to share all I have on my Elk City ancestors and their families.

Topic: BROWN
From:
Date: Saturday, October 16, 1999 07:27 PM

Am searching for information on a William and Susanna BROWN. I have a copy of her obit from the "Coffeyville Journal" dated ll August 1898. It states she died at the family home in Fawn Creek on Tuesday, 9 August 1898 after a lingering illness. Grandmother as she was known to all her friends, was born in Chatham Co. NC 13 Mar 1811. She married 1832 to William BROWN in NC and he proceeded her in death by about 12 years (1886). She was the mother of ten children, all of whom were living at the time of her death.
Her son, John F. BROWN died the same day as she did. He was born 5 Sept 1853 and was 44 years, 11 months and 4 days old. The obit states he was married August 5, 1898 to Miss Lizzie M. Dungan of Coffeyville. Funeral services were held at Spring Valley Church, Rev. Hamill officiating. Remains of both were laid to rest in the Robbins Cemetery.

I know William and Susanna were both born about 1811. Other children were Leni who married a Wm. C. Temple; Oliver A.J. "Jack" who married Louisa Herbert; Junius Wellington who married Phoebe Catharine Woodring; John F. "Frank" listed above; Malinda E. who married A. Wheeler and possibly William, Maud, Alonzo and Abner.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone with any information on this family. They came to Coffeyville in 1872 and part of the family later moved to Missouri. Any help would make me very happy. Thanks.

I need help on locating information on Benjamin, Bennie, Elwood, and Louetta WALL.

My great great grandparents:

Benjamin "WALLS" WALL
Born: Abt. 1824 in NC

I have never found any info on him anywhere other than his sons death certificate!

Wife:

Martha Jane TURNER

Burial: Pleasantdale Cemetery, Montgomery, KS
Married: Bef. 1854 in NC
Census: 1885 in Cherryvale, Montgomery, KS (the only record I have found her on!)

Where was she btw 1885 and 1916?

Children:

Bennie WALL (could be Benjamin)
Born: Bef. 1854
Died: ??
Burial:Pleasantdale Cemetery, Montgomery, KS (No headstone)

Does anyone have access to the cemetery index? I would appreciate birth and death dates.

Robert Franklin WALL
Born: 05 Apr 1854 in Richmond, Forsyth, NC
Died: 28 Oct 1923 in Chanute, Montgomery, KS
Burial: 31 Cot 1923 in Pleasantdale Cemetery, Montgomery, KS
Census 1: 1900 City of Cherryvale,Montgomery, KS pg. 63b
Census 2: 1910 in Cherryvale, Montgomery, Kansas, Pg. 896.

Elwood WALL
Born: Abt. 1862 in Indiana
Census: 1885 in Cherryvale, Montgomery, KS
Witness on brother Robert's marriage license in 1886

He seems to have disappeared after 1886.

Louetta WALL
Born: Abt. 1876 in Indiana
Census: 1885 in Cherryvale, Montgomery, KS (only record of her existence)

Since the 1885 census doesn't list relationships, I'm not sure if this is Benjamin and Martha's daughter or perhaps granddaughter.

I've searched the North Carolina, Indiana and Kansas census records to no avail.

Looking for George Washington Church or any Church surnames. George Washington Church was born October 5, (think 1859) He was a peddler and traveled from town to town selling his wares. We think he was adopted by the CHURCH family. He left a settlement in Kansas or Oklahoma & we think died when the wagon overturned during a flash flood. The wagon was later found overturned near a creek bed. It was believed that the wagon was washed down the creek. His body was never found & he was never heard from again. Believe GEORGE W. Joab and Sarah cared for William Joab Logan until the death of William's father (Their son-in-law) around 1911.

Topic: What happened to Charles W. Mikel?
From:
Date: Wednesday, March 10, 1999 03:30 PM

In the 1870 Census Charles W. MIKEL was living in Montgomery Co. with his wife Lucinda Elizabeth Stewart MIKEL and small children. In 1874 she has moved back to Missouri as a widow and remarries. What happened to Charles Mikel. I presume he either had an accident or a fatal illness. Are there newspapers which would give an obituary, or report of an accident, or cemetery records which could perhaps help me locate his burial? Or does someone know about him?

I'm trying to find the family of Joseph Martin Huffman b. 1923, Havana, KS... He was married more than once and has children from the marriages... Joe is a pilot, and served in WWII-Italy 1944-45. Has a son named Martin Lynn. Joes parents are Ross Linn Huffman 4-12-1888-1965-buried Havana, KS and Bessie Mae Furnas (Huffman)headstone in Havana, KS, but buried in Sarpy County, NE. (HAVE HER gen INFORMATION) m. in 1909. Bessie is from the Havana, Independence, KS area. Joe's Grandparents were Alice S. 1864-1932 buried Havana, KS and John J. Huffman b.1861, buried Havana, KS 1933..
Joe Huffman was last seen in Omaha NE area 25 years ago.
I located a posting on rootsweb from the above mentioned son on Joe, named Martin Lynn Huffman. He stated that my grandfather had traced the family tree back to the 1500's in Germany and that Baltzar Hoffman/Huffman was directly related to the family,Siegen, Germany, and that the first family to enter US was in
1714, Virginia by the name of Johann Huffman/Hoffman. The e~mail address is no longer valid and I have called, and called trying to find Martin Huffman, with no luck...
I would like to request that you send me any information you may have on the Huffman/Hoffman's as I may have to start from the opposite end for my search.
I know that he is related because of some of the information above was stated, that I already had... I have sent for my grandfathers service records, but they where burnt in the fire the government had. Most H's where.
Sincerely,
Dawn Kohlhorst

I am searching for information on my LOWRY ancestors. If you have any information on the Lowry's listed, I would appreciate hearing from you. From the 1910 Kansas Census in Cherryvale, Kansas: Richard A. Lowry - age 25 - born 1885 in Missouri; Clara F. Lowry (wife of Richard) - age 20 - born 1890 in Missouri; Orin E. Lowry (child of Richard and Clara) - age 2 - born 1908 in Kansas; Earnest E. Lowry (child of Richard and Clara) - age <1yr - born 1909 in Kansas.
The 1910 census lists Richard's birthplace as Missouri, but family history says he once lived in Iowa and left home when he was about 15. Thanks in advance!

I am looking for information about the family of Silas G. GOBLE. In the 1900 census Silas GOBLE (age 48) was listed in Kansas City, Kansas, with his wife Lizzie (age 43), and daughters Phoebe (age 20), Ada (age 15), and Gertrude (age 5). In the 1910 census the family was living in Coffeyville, Montgomery County, Kansas. Phoebe GOBLE is not listed with the family in 1910. The 1911 Coffeyville city directory lists Silas GOBLE as editor of People's Publishing Co. He does not appear in the 1920 soundex for Kansas, Missouri, or Oklahoma. Did the daughters get married in Coffeyville prior to the 1920 census? What happened to Silas GOBLE and his wife? Did they move away from Kansas, or die before 1920?
