Thank you very much for the opportunity to submit this query. Any information would be welcomed and I will share my findings with anyone that may be interested.

COLLINS
Julia Berg (jberg@amentlaw.com) 13 August 2008
I am looking for the date of death of Carrie E. COLLINS, married to Charles E. COLLINS and living in Council Grove in 1930. I do not know when she died but it must've been between 1930 and 1937. They had a son named Charles Jr. I found an article dated 4/19/1937 where Charles Sr. (called "Ed") was killed in a car accident shortly after he moved to "Pauline", and gives no mention of a surviving wife. His son was the driver and had just graduated high school, I'm assuming in Council Grove. It said that Ed owned a secondhand store there for many years. Carrie is my relative, as William KEYS was her father. Anything else you can find out about this family would be greatly appreciated. I would very much like to find Charles COLLINS Jr. or his family.

BURSCOUGH/BOSCO
Rosemary Riley (jimandro2007@yahoo.com) 19 July 2008
Recently I found that my Great-Uncle and Great-Aunt John and Jane BURSCOUGH were buried in Council Grove, Morris, Kansas. On the internet Google search they appear as John and Jane BOSCO. They were part of the Mormon Battalion that passed through, though John was not a soldier. The couple was seeking safe passage to California. In the histories that I found on the internet, it says that John and Jane died hours apart on the 29th and 28th of Aug 1846. A double grave was made for them on the west side of the creek with stone walls 7'x10' around them and then filled in with smaller stones. I was wondering if this grave has ever been located. I would be most so appreciative of your help.

SWARTZ
Marian Swartz (mgs924@att.net) 19 July 2008
Buried in Swartz Cemetery, near Dwight, KS are: My Great-Great-Great Grandmother, Anna Mary (VOTLIN) SWARTZ, My Great-Great Grandparents, Martin and Jane (LILLICH) SWARTZ, and my Great-Great Grandparents, Charles and Maria (SHEARS) CHINN, (as well as many, many more peripheral relatives/ancestors).
Questions:
1) Is it known where the exact location of the SWARTZ homestead was? Jane SWARTZ was said to have died in July (6), 1898, and Martin SWARTZ continued to live there for a time before selling the homestead. He died in 1924 in Oregon, so he would have sold his homestead between around 1900-1920.
2) Martin SWARTZ deeded/donated 3 acres of his homestead land for the SWARTZ Cemetery, and SWARTZ School around November 21, 1896...what has finally happened to the SWARTZ School? Is the building still intact? The last reference I can find about it says something like "The school was still standing in the 1960's, but was moved to private farmland from it's original location"...?
3) Are there any known SWARTZ's living in the Morris County area that are descended from these same Great-Great Grandparents of mine? If so, how could I go about finding them?
Thanks for your help in answering any/all of my questions that you can.

Cathy Wilkinson (cbwilkinson@comcast.net) 2 March 2007
My Great-Grandmother, Lucy ANKER lived in Wilsey, KS (Morris co.) from about 1880 until she died in May of 1908. Her daughter, Pauline ANKER, was my grandmother. Lucy was not married and my great grandfather's name was supposedly Porter GASKEN of Elk Hart, IND. I found a P. GASKINS in the KS census in 1895 which would have been only a few years before my grandmother would have been conceived. Lucy was born in 1874 so Porter would have probably been of a similar age. My grandmother was born 3/8/1899 in Wilsey. I am looking for any information on these people and any clues to the identity of my biological great-grandfather. Thanks for your help.

GILLASPY...HOUGLAND...MORRIS
Robert Powell (powe-4013-ksgen@yahoo.com) 24 January 2007
I am researching my great grandfather's first daughter, Margaret C. GILLASPY, and her mother, (CARLISSE). Margaret lived in White City, Morris County, KS for a while. Margaret was born 09/09/1858 in Vernon Township, Jackson County, Indiana, to Robert Johnson and (CARLISSE) GILLASPY. (CARLISSE) seems to have disappeared from the public record after the Civil War.
Margaret's father, now Dr. Robert J. GILLASPY, remarries to Sarah Catherine DIXON on 03/25/1873 and moves to White City, Morris County, KS. Margaret married William A. HOUGLAND on 10/25/1876 in Vernon Township, Jackson County, IN.
William A. and Margaret C. HOUGLAND move to White City, Morris County, KS in 1884 and may have lived there temporarily with Daniel E. and Lillie M. Morris . (Lillie M. was Margaret's step-sister). William A. and Margaret C. HOUGLAND owned land and lived in White City, Morris County, KS between 1884 and 1888. They relocated to Louisville City, Jefferson County, Kentucky sometime around 1889.
The Jackson County Health Department of Indiana has no birth records preceding 1880; and as such, no record for Margaret C. or her mother (CARLISSE). They also have no record of Robert J. and (CARLISSE) GILLASPY's marriage.

Do you have anyone who can do a photo of their tombstones? I'm in California, so it's too far for me to come. I'd be happy to reimburse any cost (reasonably!). WHITAKER
Joan Bridge (jb767850@tadaust.org.au) 12 April 2006
Searching for William WHITAKER in Familysearch.org, (an ancestor of my husband) I found only one entry which actually was the correct one, but there followed a List of Pensioners 1883 on the Role of 'Mildred' Morris County KS contributed by Carole Sklenar Oct 1997.
One of these was a William WHITAKER , Certificate number 110,846. Reason for asking? He had Acute Rheumatism. As we are having some difficulty in finding William our Ancestor who was a Victualler owning a pub in Mill Lane, Tooley Street, Southwark, London, England in 1811. We wondered if he might have emigrated to the USA. or at least be a relative of our WHITAKER people. Could you be kind enough to check that out for us?

TYSON...ATKINSON
Dawn Bingaman (dawnmcp@msn.com) 5 December 2004
Levi TYSON was an early resident of White City, Morris County, Kansas. He lived there from at least August 1883 (from deed) to 1895 (death of his wife). He moved often to other Kansas counties after his wife's death, but was buried next to her in the White City Cemetery, 7 February 1922. The death certificate of Levi TYSON gave his parents as Benjamin TYSON and ATKINSON, possibly C. ATKINSON. I know little about them. There are many ATKINSONs buried in the Clarks Creek Cemetery outside of White City. Is anyone aware of a tie-in to the aforementioned TYSON family?

TYSON...McDONALD
Dawn Bingaman (dawnmcp@msn.com) 5 December 2004
I am trying to learn more about my Great-Great-Grandparents, Margaret McDONALD and Levi TYSON. They married in Cecil County, Maryland in 1856. I received correspondence some years ago from the White City Genealogical Society that stated their marriage took place 15 June 1856 in Baltimore, Maryland. Subsequent research shows a marriage license taken out in Cecil County, Maryland on 2 December 1856, in the names of Levi TYSON and Margaret McDARNELL. Would like to learn the source of the earlier statement.
Levi and Margaret TYSON moved often, from Maryland to Iowa, to Missouri and ultimately Morris County, Kansas, sometime before August 1883. Margaret (McDONALD) TYSON's grave in the White City cemetery only gives 1895 as the year of death. Can anyone provide a specific date of death, or any further information on Margaret? I do have some additional information on the TYSON family that I would be willing to share.

He was one of that great multitude of Americans who moved west looking for a better life. Following his death, his wife, Harriett, began to put a feminine touch on the business with this advertisement that appeared in the April 22, 1880, issue of the Morris County Enterprise, printed in Parkerville, Kansas - "Prints of the latest styles at H. STIVER." The old firm had a new name, also. The STIVERS had no children, but a nephew, twenty year old Alva Newton DILLEY, soon joined her. A few years later he became owner of the store and brought it to new heights of success. He lived out the rest of his life in Morris County, Kansas, and when he died in 1937, his obituary, printed in the December 4th edition of the Council Grove, Kansas Republican gave additional insight into the scope of this business when it said, "Frequently a line of wagons nearly a mile long would be waiting to unload wheat at the Dilley warehouse or directly into MK&T freight cars." Randal STIVERS had arrived in the valley of the Neosho River in about 1869, even before the town was founded. Not only did he carry the usual line of merchandise in this general store, "R. STIVERS & Co.", but he also sold agricultural implements and bought and sold grain. This pioneer merchant's life was cut short; when at the age of 53 he died of peritonitis. His wife, Harriet took over the business and was the first lady storekeeper in town.

Henry (Harry) PAPENHAUS lived near Latimer and Delavan. His last name may be spelled differently and I don't know where or when he changed it from Henry to Harry to differentiate from his father in Indiana. Do you have records of his daughter, Elna marrying a WHIPKER in Morris County?

MITCHELL
Martha Mitchell Day (mjd3612@aol.com) 6 June 2003
I am attempting to find out some information on my family. My Grandfather was John Harvey MITCHELL. He was born in Council Grove, Morris County, Kansas on April 22, 1890 and died in Oklahoma in 1922. I know nothing about his family and am attempting to find out the names of his parents and any siblings he may have had. There may be a Morris County birth record that would give the names of his parents. I would appreciate any help in this quest.

BERGDAHL
Chris Barker (bcbarker@genesco.net) 17 May 2003
Searching for information on Johan/John Axel BERGDAHL, born 1862 in Sweden. Swedish records show that he left Sweden on July 26, 1883 and his destination in the U.S. was Council Grove, Morris County, Kansas. He returned to Sweden in 1912 but came back to the U.S. in 1914. When he returned to the U.S. in 1914 the records show that his destination was Portland, Oregon. Johan/John Axel BERGDAHL had a brother, Nils Olaf BERGDAHL, born 1866 in Sweden. I believe that Nils Olaf BERGDAHL probably came to the U.S. around 1887. He may have lived in Council Grove, Kansas when he first immigrated to the U.S. also. They would possibly be listed in the 1900 Kansas Census or maybe even in the 1910 census. If any of this sounds familiar or if anyone has an index of the 1900 or 1910 census, I would appreciate any help that you can offer. This is not my line, but I am helping a researcher in Sweden find his lost American cousins.

PATTERSON...RIDGEWAY
Rebecca Engmann (rebeccaengmann@mail.dk) 15 April 2003
I am an American from Denmark, writing to inquire about some of my family history from Morris County. Specifically, I'd like to know if anyone or the Historical Society has any marriage records, or American Indian census forms for Morris County from the late 1800's.
My maternal Great-Grandmother, Erma (PATTERSON) (RIDGEWAY) HENRY, was born in White City, Morris County. She was the daughter of of Pluma (WILLIAMS) PATTERSON, b: 1878 (to Siloam WILLIAMS and Mary Ann PHELPS) and Isaac E. PATTERSON (DOB unknown). There has been some speculation the Isaac E. PATTERSON was fully or partly Indian.
In addition, could someone point me in the right direction to any Morris County RIDGEWAYs? Erma HENRY was married briefly to my maternal Great-Grandfather, Clifford RIDGEWAY, reportedly wanted for moonshining in Auburn, Kansas in 1927. There was also some speculation the Mr. RIDGEWAY was also fully or partly Indian. Thanks very much in advance!
