Any

then married a widow name Bridget SMITH. Late husband was William. I
would like to find info if possible on the locations of the farms and where the
sons are buried. Anything more would be great as well!

GILBERT
Ruth Lucchesi (ruth@lucchesi.org) 23 August
2008
I am tracing Truman T. GILBERT (born Oct 1830, unknown city, New York)
and his wife Elmira (Almira) (MARTIN) GILBERT (Born 19 Mar 1834 Southwold
Township, Ontario Canada) who lived for many years in Neosho County. I find them
listed as follows:
1900 Walnut Grove Township
1880 Walnut Grove
Township
1870 Erie Township
Elmira died 19 Mar 1904, probably in
Neosho County. I don't know when Truman died, but neither of them are listed in
the 1910 census for Neosho county. Can you locate either cemetery or death
records for this couple?
Additionally, I found two children born to this
family...Annie/Anice (born ca 1857) and Owen (born ca 1863) both born in their
prior residence of Rock Grove City, Floyd County, Iowa. The 1900 census lists
Elmira as having 3 children, 1 of whom is living. Both of these children
disappear from the census after 1870; the girl because she married and the boy
perhaps because he died. Do you have any death records for these children? Do
you have any birth/death records for the illusive third child? Assuming
that Annie/Anice was the child who lived, might there be any marriage records
for her?
SCHISLER
Hallie Garner (hallie_garner@gmail.com) 29 July 2008
I am trying to get information about a woman named Kittie/Kitty Mae SCHISLER.
Her maiden name was LAWSON and she was from Hancock County, Tennessee. This has
been a fairly consistent spelling, but it a name that has lots of variations. I
can find nothing on the Social Security Death Index, although relatives say she
definitely died. She was alive in 2004--would be in her 80s now or when she
died.

MARKHAM...GRAHAM
Dan'l Markham
(danlm@roadrunner.com) 15 June 2008
The MARKHAM family and the GRAHAM family,
my ancestors, came through Neosho County around 1870, to prepare to take the
Oregon Trail to Oregon, eventually ending up downriver (Columbia River) from
Portland, Oregon, in Ilwaco, Washington. I am interested in finding whatever
information I can about Dan MARKHAM and his son Daniel MARKHAM. It is unclear
how long the lived in Neosho County coming their from Ohio via Illinois, Dan
MARKHAM being with the Illinois Calvary, 2nd Regiment, during the Civil War. I
find record of Dan MARKHAM being in Neosho in 1870, but unsure when they arrived
and when the left, only knowing they arrived in Ilwaco, Washington in 1879. The
GRAHAM family married into the MARKHAM family and I assume were in Neosho County
as well.

John W. OVERMAN (b. 1854) migrated

The 1895 Kansas Census has him in Mission Twp with his wife M.E., born in TN and
his two daughters, born 1891 and 1893. His wife evidently died in Neosho County
between 1896 when their son John was born and 1900. John has returned to Indiana
with his children and is living again in Jackson County with his mother and
brother in the 1900 Federal Census. I am looking for M.E.'s burial site and her

was Sarah Mary (Gordin, -on) SMITH. She was born 15 Feb 1861 in Madison Co., OH

children were born in Thayer, which I believe is in Neosho County. Her
husband was William Edgar SMITH, she had 4 children, Nellie E., Nina R, Harry A,
Harley L. It would also be helpful, if you locate the cemetery, to know the

LYONS...McLELAND...WRIGHT
Darlene Landry (ldebst@persona.ca) 31 December 2007
I am asking for help in
finding the background of Alice Josephine LYONS born Dec 1874 Kansas. As she
married in Neosho County Kansas to Oliver Morton McLELAND 3 Mar 1895 Neosho
Kansas and lived in Walnut Grove as his wife I am assuming that she too was from
that general area. The only family I found that maybe her family is that of J B
LYONS who died in 1926 Neosho and was buried (probably by daughter) Rebecca E
Wright. I Would like the census of State Census lookup on her as well as 1880
Federal Census,.. perhaps 1885 Provincial. This should give me an accurate
picture of where she came from. The 1920 census states both her parents were
born in Illinois. She lived in Deerlodge Montana by then; a divorcee as a
private housekeeper to the man she later married with her daughter and his
mother. Thank You.

or so years (1902 earliest, 1909 latest) Any help or clues on obtaining

According to my research, I found a
marriage of ancestors in Neosho County, Kansas. William E. GREENWELL married
Retta Della (or Della Retta) Mort on January 1, 1895. This information was
located on the LDS website. I have a relative who has located a William E.
GREENWELL in the 1880 Osage Mission, Neosho County, Kansas census. It states he
was born abt. 1864 in Illinois. His father was Robert E. GREENWELL born in
Kentucky and Ann E. born in Illinois. I also located a William GREENWELL in the

William E. GREENWELL born abt. 1864 is the correct William GREENWELL? Any

Alice Josephine LYONS or
Josephine Alice LYONS born about 1874 in Kansas; that married Oliver McLELAND 3
March 1895 in Neosho County. According to her 1920 census she was born in Kansas
yet on the same census Lola her daughter's mother is listed as being born in
Missouri, so it is confusing. The 1920 census states both her parents were born
in Illinois. She was living with Simon L DYER in Deerlodge, Montana then as a
divorcee and married him that September in Idaho. Any help in locating
information on her background would be highly appreciated. I do not have access
to all the Federal census records to find out for sure who her parents are. All

census that they were both born in Illinois.

I was born in Chetopa Township,

better life). We never returned and lost track of McFARLAND family back in
Kansas. I would like to make contact with any member of the McFARLAND
family in an attempt to confirm if I have family members and my memories as an

father's family who is from Neosho County. My father was born in St. Paul
according to family info, but I recently ran across information that makes me
believe they may have been living in "Osage Mission". I can not find reference
to that city? Could it have changed names over the years? I plan on a trip to
Kansas in the near future and will visit Cherokee and Neosho County for family
information. The other surname of interest is DILLON, which was my Grandmother.
I have some scattered information on both.

THORNE
rosebud4242@peoplepc.com 15 March 2007
I am looking for information on a
THORNE family that adopted an uncle of mine Joseph W.(JACOBS) THORNE. Joe was
one of those children who was put on a train and sent to other places for
adoption. He married Nellie Faye CLAIBORNE of Chanute. He was working on her
fathers farm and they met and married in 1935 in Chanute. She was born in 1916
in Chanute. She was the only child of Hogan Burt and Nellie Louise CLAIBORNE of
Chanute. Joseph (JACOBS) THORNE was the natural son of Rosa C. (ADAMS) JACOBS
and an unknown JACOBS father, he had a sister Emma who I know nothing about. We
are trying to put the pieces together for this family. Joe also had a 1/2
brother that he knew, Elmer Smith ANDERSON who lives in Safford, AZ. He was also
on the orphan train and adopted by August and Mary ANDERSON, he may have been
adopted in Chanute also. However they did not know they were related and met
accidentally on some kind of cattle drive or something like that. They
discovered they were brothers when they both started to sing the same song with
the same people in it. This story was featured in Country Magazine in Jan 1995.
We would love to complete this story in a good way, if anyone knows of these
folks please contact me. Elmer Smith ANDERSON is still alive and will be 96 in
June, 2007, We are going there to meet him in June. I would love to have some
other information to give.

I have been trying to find my Great Aunt Emma CARTER for several years.
The very last thing I have on her is a letter from her sister, Etta
WEESNER...(my grandmother)...in July 1944. G'Ma WEESNER wrote to my

Emma was not listed as a survivor. Aunt Emma was born about 1860s. She
apparently lived in or somewhere around Chanute at the time. We have
checked with Funeral Homes in Chanute...no luck. I wrote to vital
statistics in Topeka...no luck...also wrote to vital stats in Oklahoma,
Texas, Missouri, Illinois and Arkansas...also no luck. I am convinced
that she probably was living in some small town around
Chanute...died...and a local "undertaker" buried her without reporting
it to the State.

JACOBS
Fred
Hendrickson (fredokc@aol.com) 1 May 2004
Seeking information on my
Great-Grandfather, Benjamin Franklin JACOBS. Believe he went by 'Frank'.
Born 18 February 1827, Frederick County, Maryland. About 1860-1882, lived in
Knox County, Ohio, where he married Marietta ROCK. Lived in Jasper County,
Missouri abt 1882-1890 (at least). Marietta died the 31 January 1889.
Nothing is known of him after that date, except he died December 1917. But I
suspect he moved to Kansas. On 1900 Neosho County, Kansas census is a
Benjamin JACOBS -- possibly 'Benj. Frank' JACOBS (hard to read) -- whose
information matches: born February 1837, Parents born in Maryland. Although
his occupation is farmer (he had previously been a stone mason), that is
possible since his sons were later farmers in Kansas. Shortly after 1900 --
and for numerous years thereafter -- my Grandfather, Hugh Marcellus JACOBS
lived in Coffeyville, Montgomery County, Kansas. Years of research
indicates that my Benjamin Franklin JACOBS was probably the son of
(Jonathan) Ignatius JACOBS and Mary Ann FOX of Frederick County, Maryland.
I need to confirm this through a marriage, land or death record, obituary,
newspaper article, etc. The Benjamin JACOBS on the 1900 census had been
married less than a year to an Elizabeth, born Ohio (which would make
sense). I would also like to determine this; and if so, her last name and
whether they had children. Please let me know any information you may have
that might help.

whatever I can find on the SELL family of Erie, Neosho County, Kansas who
was murdered in March 1886. What township was they living in at the time? I
am interested in corresponding with anyone who may remember their folks
talking about this murdered family. I would also like to know the name of
the school Mr. Jacob SELL was teaching at when this happened. Would also
like to find out what happened to the instrument, or instruments that were
found in the home of the murdered family. Would anyone know where the
records of the lawyers are who put the boy, who was not murdered in prison?
COLE
Joanne Cole
(jojo52023@aol.com) 25 January 2004
I would like to know if James Oliver COLE
died in Chanute? He was born in 1864, worked for the railroad. We would like
to know which railroad, and what happened to him. We understand that he
abandoned his wife and 3 children and became a drifter. So it has been very
hard to find his death date and place. Would appreciate any information.
His parents are buried in Chanute; they are Charles M. COLE and Euphama
Harmon COLE, Charles was born in 1832 and died 1892, and Euphama/Euphemia
died 7 March 1900. I don't have birthdates for either parent, and that would
be great if it was on their tombstone. I would also like to know where they
are buried at as well.

naming it Stark. This would have been around the year 1887. Does any one
have records reaching back that far?
