CONVERSE
Margie Howell (marg2001@planetkc.com) 16 August 2003
We are searching this
family who appear in the 1910, 1920, and 1930 Neosho County census. This
information is from the 1930 census and from handed-down family records.
John Young CONVERSE, b: 22 February 1864, m: ca. 1901, d: 23 August 1936,
buried, Elmwood Cemetery, Chanute, Kansas. Berniece (LOWE) CONVERSE, wife,
b: ca. 1879 George C. CONVERSE, son, b: 9 September 1902, d: November 1986,
(according to SS records, final checks sent to Austin and Chanute).
Ethel L. CONVERSE, daughter, b: ca. 1906 Frank J. CONVERSE, son, b: ca.
1908, (no information in SS records.) Lena J. CONVERSE, daughter, b: ca.
1911. This family lived on a farm in Canville Township, near Earlton. From
the information in the 1930 census, the farm was valued at nearly $20,000.
Would it be possible to get an obituary for the father, John Y. (Young)
CONVERSE, who died 23 August 1936, and is buried in the Elmwood Cemetery,
Chanute, Kansas. This should give us some information concerning the
whereabouts of his wife and children.
We know that daughter, Lena (married
name not known, and not known if she was married), apparently she had access
to a family bible as she sent detailed information about the CONVERSE and
YOUNG families to cousins in Iowa. This was 20 or 30 years ago, and her
address at that time was Earlton, Kansas.
We do not know the names of the
spouses of any of the 4 children. We have a great deal of information about
both the YOUNG and CONVERSE families -- Iowa, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York
-- and the family of John Y. CONVERSE was lost to us until recently. We are
very anxious to locate descendants of this family, we'd like to share or
exchange information.

like to know if there are any descendants of this family still in Kansas?
Alsesta Jane NOBLE married John C. Sharp in the 1860's in Indiana. They came
to Neosho County, Kansas also, but did not make it into the census. Around
1868 John was killed by a neighbor (with an axe blow to the head) and in
1870 Alsesta Jane was back in Indiana living with her family and with her
two young children born in Kansas. I would like to find out more about this
family and the murder which must have gained some publicity.

HUNT...BALDWIN...BURKETT
Anna Bertram (abertram@heartoftn.net) 18 December
2002
My Grandmother, Berch Louie BALDWIN, was born November 11, 1891 in
Neosho County, Kansas to Esther Sarah BURKETT and Henry Nelson BALDWIN.
My Grandfather, Harry Clay HUNT, was born June 3, 1888 in Neosho County,
Kansas to Martha Hortense BALDWIN and John Asbury HUNT. Berch BALDWIN and
Harry HUNT married March 17, 1911 in Neosho County, Kansas. They lived
several years in Garfield County, Oklahoma but returned to Neosho County,
Kansas after World War II, eventually buying a charming older home at 219
North Grant in Erie. They lived there about 30 years and I spent as much
time with them as I could during my growing up years. It was wonderful to
feel a part of the community and to be related to so many people there. I
would like to share and exchange information with people researching these
lines or who knew my wonderful Grandparents.

I am
trying to find out who the parents of James Edward STEVENSON are. Also, I
would like to know what towns are close to Lincoln Township, Neosho County,
Kansas. James was born in either 1882 (familysearch.org record AFN:DKZF-GR)
or 1884 (calculated from age at marriage, and date of marriage to Mary
Caroline ATKINSON also born in Lincoln Township, Neosho County, Kansas
(AFN:6F6R-JM). Married May 1, 1912 at Edgemont, Fall River, South Dakota.
Then at some time they moved to Cow Creek, Oregon, perhaps Myrtle Creek,
Oregon for awhile, then moved around 1927 to Patagonia or Nogales, Arizona,
then San Diego, California in 1928 and worked as a street car or trolley car
conductor, then moved to Central Point, Oregon in 1929. Source: IGI
Individual Batch Number 7528812, sheet 46, source call number 0884650.
Source: Ardyce Coon, wife of Richard Eldon STEVENSON, son of James. (My
mother) James and Mary are my Grandparents. I was told by my father that the
name was changed from STEPHENSON or something like that, to STEVENSON, and
it was either James' father or Grandfather that changed the name. Therefore,
James' parents surname might be either STEVENSON or STEPHENSON or a
similar sounding name. Did James have any brothers and sisters and what were
their names.

for a genealogy program on each persons computer, so that we might all have
