their names were Viola Belle, Hattie May and Luella; Loren W. was born May
27, 1867; Vinna Leora, January 25, 1870, and Clara Maud, July 19, 1875. They were all born in Pike county, and are living in this county at this time.
Mr. Hicks came to Norton county in April, 1885, and settled on a farm in Rockwell township where he has resided ever since.
He and his sons are engaged farming and raising horses. Mrs. Hicks died March 3, 1887, since which time Mr. Hicks' daughters have kept house for him.
After coming here Mr. Hicks was a republican until 1890, since that time he has been an Alliance man and populist.
He was nominated by the Farmers' Alliance for representative in 1890 on an anti-Ingalls platform and was elected by over 400 majority, defeating John Bieber, the republican nominee.
In the legislature of 1891, he voted for W. A. Peffer for United States senator and Edwin Snow for state printer.
Richard Felton came to Norton county in the fall of 1872; he jumped a part of the townsite and had a filing on the 40 acres where the Rock Island depot now stands.
He remained here until 1876 and was for several years conductor on the Union Pacific and Rock Island railroads.
He was a soldier in the late war. In 1890 his health failed and he has since that time been an inmate of the Soldiers' Home at Leavenworth.
He is at present an inmate of the insane ward of that institution afflicted with epileptic mania.
Sidney M. Case was born in Lucerne county, Pennslyvania (sic), September 14, 1851.
When about sixteen years of age his parents moved to Illinois; from there he and his two brothers, Ira and Cora, started to Kansas, but stopped in Missouri for about three years; was there when the civil war broke out.
In 1862 he came to Doniphan county, Kansas, and in 1875 to Norton county, arriving here on the 1st day of April and bought out Ed Collins, who kept the Almena postoffice, on which farm he now resides.
He lived in true bachelor style until 1880 when he was married to Miss Phoebe Bickford, of Great Falls, New Hampshire, on April 8th of that year.
In 1877 he brought out his two brothers, Ira and Cora, who had taken claims and proved up on them.
Mr. Case was once a delegate to the Norton county convention during the county seat trouble as a republican (is a red hot republican yet.)
Ira Case died October 13, 1892, and was buried in the Norton cemetery.
Cora Case was married in 1878 to Jennie Kane. She was a daughter of Mrs. Bartles and was a widow when she came here.
He now resides on a farm two miles west of Norton.
Montroville Alexander Morrison was born in Virginia, November 11, 1842, came to Keokuk county, Iowa, when a young man, and was married there to Amanda Cain.
