SURNAME: COX, PEDDICORD, FORTH, DANIELS, DIKE, HARD
Looking for information on the following families: COX, PEDDICORD, FORTH, DANIELS, DIKE, HARD and associated families. (Have lots of information to share.) In 1869, Robert C. Peddicord, his wife Harriet Briscoe (COX) and their family moved to the Wamego area. At least 2 of Harriet's brothers also migrated to Pottawatomie County around this time frame. The brothers were James L. Cox and Robert E. Cox. Other siblings who may have lived in the area include Albert E. Cox, George H. Cox and Sarah Ann (Cox) Peddicord -- her husband, Edward S. Peddicord, was the brother of Robert Peddicord, her sister's husband. The Cox brothers were involved in farming and livestock brokerage. James returned to their native home of Morgan County, Illinois to marry Mary Robinson. James and Mary made Pottawatomie County their home and were the parents of 4 children (George , Lula Mae, Herbert, and Robert). My Great Great Grandfather was Robert E. Cox. He married Mary Jane Forth of Pottawatomie County about 1875. By 1880 Robert and Mary Jane had moved to the Kansas City area were Robert was worked as a broker for the Kansas City Stockyards. Her parents were Jacob Forth and Armina Fields. Armina Forth appears in the 1860 census of Pottawatomie County (Louisville). I believe Jacob Forth has passed away by this time as she is the head of household. By the 1870 census Armina is married to her neighbor, James R. H. Daniels. Mary Jane is living with them along with several of Armina's and James' children. What happen to Jacob Forth? Where did Armina Fields Forth Daniels go? Family rumor has it that "grandma was from Kansas" and since I can see that there is a 0George W. SURNAME: HILLIARD
I am researching my great grandfather James Hilliard. He was in the civil war but I don't know his unit. He is buried in the Louisville Cemetary. He was born 12 Dec 1841 in Londonderry Ireland and died 24 Jan 1894 in Westmoreland. He married Harriet Ameelia Eaton on 4 July 1872 in Louisville. I checked the newspapers for his obituary at the Historical Center in Topeka when I was home on vacation this summer. It was in the Westmoreland Recorder dated Feb 1, 1894. That's how I found that he was in the civil war. He was active in the Congregational church of Westmoreland and also of the G.A.R. and the Ancient Order of United Workmen. The article said that he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1861 but was soon discharged on account of rheumatism. After six months he re-enlisted in the navy and served until the close of the war. It also said he took part in the conflict between the Cumberland and the Merrimac and was on the former when it went down and he swam ashore. I have tried looking through civil war information but have not been able to find him listed. The navy seems to have fewer records thanthe army. The paper also said he came to Philadelphia at age 8 because his parents had both died and his sisters were in Philadelphia. Any Hilliard information would be appreciated.
