Robert L. McCarroll 57, 1711-B Volga, former Zurich resident, died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at Hays Medical Center.
He was born April 30, 1942, in Burlington, Colo. to Benjamin and Dice (Melone) McCarroll He attended Red Line Church of God. He was a pumper for Hallwood Petroleum Company for over 20 years before retiring.
Survivors include his mother, Dice Anderson, Rosebud, Ark. three sons, Shawn, Falcon, Colo., Steven and Stanley, both of LaCrosse a daughter, Tina McCarroll, California three brothers, Phillip, Rosebud, Richard, Rosebud, and Jamie Gordon, Palco two sisters, Arnhold, Bates City, Mo., and Dowis, Palco and three grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Red Line Church of God, Palco, with the Rev. Roger Cooper officiating burial in Plainville Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the church. Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel, Plainville, is in charge of arrangements.

PLAINVILLE ­ Lyle R. Folsom Jr., 68, died Monday, Dec. 13, 1999, at the Plainville Rural Hospital.
He was born July 19, 1931, in Webster to Lyle J. and Lucille (Hatfield) Folsom. He graduated from Webster High School in 1949.
He married Rosilee Glodfelty on May 23, 1953, in Phillipsburg. He was co-owner of Oilman´s Acid Inc., Russell, and was a member of the United Methodist Church, Plainville. He was a longtime Plainville resident.
Survivors include his wife, of the home a son, Darin, Hays two daughters, Sandra Chard, Zurich, and Valerie Fuzzell, Plainville three brothers, Leonard, Stockton, Washington, and Cleim, Overland Park and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Twila Smith.

STOCKTON ­ Lamont B. “Chuck” Waller Jr., 76, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, at his home.
He was born July 5, 1923, in Columbus, Ohio, to Lamont B. and Mabel (Lake) Waller Sr. He graduated from high school in Washington, D. C., and attended a year of college.
He married Eris McClellan on Feb. 14, 1943, in Zurich. He had been a Stockton area resident for more than 50 years, having also lived in Hays and Zurich. He was a crew chief at the Walker Army Air Base and owned Waller Motor Co., Stockton, for 50 years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and Rotary, both of Stockton. He was past mayor of Stockton and a Stockton city commissioner for 12 years. He was a charter member of the Chevrolet publication, “Generator and Distributor Historical Association.”
Survivors include his wife, of the home two sons, William L. and Bradley J., both of Stockton a daughter, Rebecca L. Waller Stephan, Wichita a sister, Lecretia Waller Brown, Elizabeth City, N. C. and five grandchildren.
United Methodist Church, Stockton, with the Rev. Tim Ault-Duell officiating burial will be in the Stockton Cemetery. Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home, Stockton.

Robert L. Baker, 61, of Milton, died Monday, December 6, 1999, at a local hospital. Mr. Baker was born in Stockton, Kansas on November 8, 1938. He was a member of Bagdad United Methodist Church & choir and the United Methodist Men. He retired from the Navy as a Chief Petty Officer on November 16, 1976. He served on the USS NOA, and the USS Hawkins. He retired from civil service, NADAP, NAS Pensacola in April of 1994. He received numerous awards and medals during his career in the Navy as well as civil service. He was a graduate of UWF with a B. S. in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting.
Survivors include his loving wife, Barbara E. Baker; six daughters and sons-in-law, Louise and John Connell, Roberta and Kearney Hacker, Mary and Tony Champitto, Joyce Paglia, Catherine and Gary Morgan, and Christina Thorsen; two sons and daughter-in-law, Greg Thorsen and Tim and Lisa Thorsen; sister, Phyllis Hood; and 20 grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, December 10, 1999 at Bagdad United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ben Henry Pooley officiating.
Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Richard Crowl, Barry Cox, Cecil Pendleton, Clayton Fullerton, Lamar Whitaker and Richard Thorsen. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Cox, Edgar Bridges, Paul Bridges and Doug Bridges.
FAITH CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME, 100 Beverly Pkwy, is in charge of arrangements.
Friends may call at Faith Chapel 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Services for Lydia Emma Warmann, of Mt. Olive, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Immanuel Lutheran Church there with the Rev. Daniel Barbey officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, St. Louis. Friends may call from 3 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in Becker and Son Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church of Mt. Olive, the Ebenzer Lutheran Church of St. Louis or to Cancer Research. Mrs. Warmann died at 12:24 p.m. Sunday, November 28, 1999, in St. Francis Hospital. She was 75 years old last December 14. She was employed as a sales clerk at Dillards in St. Louis before she retired. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Mt. Olive, the Immanuel Quilters and Lydia Circle. She was a former member of the Ebenezer Lutheran Church in St. Louis. She was born and reared in Palco, Kansas, a daughter of Chriss A. and Ida L. Albrecht Wolf. She married Ottmer A. L. Warmann on September 30, 1944, in Fort Worth, Texas. He survives. Surviving also are a son, Vincent Warmann and wife Carolyn of St. Louis; daughters, Barbara Henning and husband Jerry, Sandra Vierdag and husband Robert, all of St. Louis; sisters, Rosella Lueker and husband Elmer of Worden, Hilda and LaVera Wolf of Mt. Olive; seven grandchildren, Dawn, Katie, Rachel, Andrew, Joel, Jason and Justin. Preceding her in death was a grandson, Jeffery. Following the services a lunch will be served for family and friends by members of the Lydia Circle in the Immanuel Educational building. Services for Lydia Emma Warmann, of Mt. Olive, were held at 10 this morning in Immanuel Lutheran Church there. The Rev. Daniel Barbey officiated. Burial was in Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, St. Louis. Ernie Thomack was both organist and soloist. He sang the 23rd Psalm and accompanied the congregation as they sang "Amazing Grace" and "Beautiful Savior." Pallbearers were her sons in law, Jerry Henning and Robert Vierdag; grandsons, Joel Henning and Jason Vierdag; nephew, Elmer Lueker Jr.; and Arlin Duelm. Following the service at the church a lunch was served to family and friends in the Immanuel Educational building by members of the Lydia Circle. Mrs. Warmann, 75, died Sunday, November 28, in St. Francis Hospital.

Library primary donor dies
Service scheduled for Tuesday in Prairie Village, Kan., for man after whom Hale was dedicated.
Herman Darrell "Joe" Hale, a primary contributor to Hale Library, died Saturday at St. Joseph Health Center.
"We really can thank him for the fact that Hale Library exists today," Brice Hobrock, dean of Libraries, said. "He and his wife, Joyce, came forward in 1992 as anonymous donors for the major portion of the $5 million in private funding needed to build the library. They are the reason that we finally have a facility that can accommodate the students at K-State."
Gary Hellebust, president and CEO of the KSU Foundation, said Hale was a true supporter of academics and an inquisitive, intelligent person.
"He was a bigger-than-life character. He was warm, but somewhat reserved - very inquisitive. He wanted to learn just so he would know and increase his awareness," Hellebust said. "He was very pro-academic and wanted to support the library because he felt it would be supporting all academics at K-State and not just one part."
Hale was born April 12, 1925, in Woodston, Kan., to Carl Raymond Hale and Mayme E. Dunn Hale. He was raised in Downs, Kan., and graduated from Downs High School in 1943. Hale enlisted in the Navy during World War II and served in the Pacific until 1946. He attended the University of Kansas through the G. I. Bill and graduated in 1949 with a bachelor's degree in business. "Joe graduated from the University of Kansas, but several of his children went to K-State. He wanted to do something for K-State. His support had to be directly for students, so he contributed to a directly oriented student project that became Hale Library as we know it today," Hobrock said. In 1951, Hale met and married Joyce A. Vanier. He also joined her father's Western Star Mill Co., which was purchased by Archer Daniels Midland in 1970. Hale was named president of ADM Milling Co. in 1972 and retired as chairman in 1996. In addition to his contribution to Hale Library, Hale helped build Hale Arena at the American Royal, the Hale Achievement Center and the Hale Music Media Center at the University of Kansas.
The memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Road, Prairie Village, Kan., with a reception following at the church.
The family requests no flowers and suggests contributions to the Friends of KSU Libraries or Friends of Murphy Hall at the University of Kansas.

ROUNDUP - Bobbye Merriman Wise, of Roundup, died peacefully after a long illness Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at Roundup Memorial Nursing Home, encircled by her loving family and friends. Prior to her six-week stay at the nursing home, Bobbye lived with her daughter, Anita, and granddaughters, Tara and Keeley, for almost four years. Bobbye was born Aug. 30, 1921, at Woodston, Kan., the youngest of five children born to Ralph and Eunice (Chapel) Merriman. Myra (Chapel) Quenzer, a double cousin, was raised with the Merriman family and became as close as a sister to Bobbye. After graduating from high school in 1939, Bobbye married Foster Wise on Oct. 28. In 1940, they moved to Montana. They farmed south of Gage until 1955 when they moved into Roundup. Bobbye and Foster had five children. Bobbye was a master of many different skills. She was a nurses aide at Vicar's Nursing Home, a cook at the Pioneer Cafe, manager of the Bowling Alley Cafe and supervisor of Bobbye Wise & Girls Catering. One of the founders of the Musselshell Valley Historical Museum, Bobbye was president of the MVH Museum from 1974-1986 and a participating board member for many more years.
Bobbye was preceded in death by her husband, Foster, two brothers, and two sisters. Survivors include daughters, Cindy Wilmot of Birney, Nan Witzel and Anita Burch, both of Roundup, and sons, Harlan Wise and Lynn Wise, both of Roundup. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Bobbye was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, who will be greatly missed.
Memorials can be made to the MVH Museum or the charity of one's choice.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at the Wier Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in the Roundup City Cemetery. Wier Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

CODELL - Leota Smith, 80, Codell, died Friday, Sept. 24, 1999, at Plainville Rural Hospital. Smith was born Lennicejean Leota Lynch on Aug. 4, 1919, at rural Cloud County. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Codell and Extension Home Unit.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marcene Locke on July 29, 1999.
Survivors include her husband, Lester of the home a son, Gavon of Plainville five daughters, Geneva Scott of Mineral Wells, Texas, Myrna McClellan of Liberal, Verna Smith of Wichita, Myers of Norton and Trisha Koel of Plainville a sister, Nelson of Plainville 14 grandchildren two step grandchildren five great-grandchildren and a step great-grandchild.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Codell, the Rev. Troy Buss officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery, rural Codell.

Joseph P. Gengler, 87, Stockton, died Friday, September 17, 1999 at the Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton. He was born August 12, 1912 on a farm east of Tipton, the son of John and Sophie (Eck) Gengler. He attended a one room country school called the Hillside School graduating from the eighth grade in 1927. He moved to Osborne in 1928 and worked as a mechanic and truck driver. He served in the army during WW II serving with the 635 tank destroyer Battalion and landed on the beaches on Normandy and took part in the battles and campaign of northern France and central Europe. After being discharged as a staff sergeant, he worked for the Hardman Wholesale Lumber and Hardware in Osborne until 1959 and then worked for the Kansas Highway Department in 1962 and moved to Stockton in 1963 and worked there until his retirement in 1977. Mr. Gengler was a member of the Monroe-Tyler-Barnes VFW Post 8873 in Stockton and the local chapter of A. A. in Plainville. On December 20, 1941 he married Edna June White in Osborne. She survives of the home. Other survivors include four daughters, Betty Kaba, Stockton; Charlene Anderson, Lebanon; Roxanne Goodenough, Attica; Joann Luntsford, Attica; sister, Eva Striet, Clay Center; 29 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Matt and Frank Gengler.
Services were Monday at the Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home in Stockton with Reverend Troy Buss officiating; burial in the Stockton Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Monroe-Taylor-Barnes V.F.W. Post 8873.

BROKEN BOW -- Olive Dubry Daily, 89, of Broken Bow died Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999, at her home.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 Tuesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow with the Rev. Cliff Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery with Govier Brothers in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Monday at Govier Brothers. Memorials have been established to the Senior Citizens in Anselmo.
Mrs. Daily was born Oct. 18, 1909, at Palco, Kan. to Sam and Mae (Adamson) Stithem. In 1917, the family moved to Nebraska. She attended school at Milburn. On Dec. 28, 1925, she married Willis Dubry. The couple made their home on a ranch south of Brewster until moving to Broken Bow. Mr. Dubry died in 1967. She married Walter E. Daily on May 17, 1971. The couple made their home in Broken Bow. Mrs. Daily was a member of the United Methodist Church in Broken Bow and the Senior Citizens Club at Anselmo. She enjoyed traveling, dancing and playing bingo.
Survivors include one son, Keith of Thedford; one daughter, Anna May Allison of Broken Bow; one sister, Mattie Dunbar of Sargent; one brother, Kenneth Stithem of Anselmo; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; a son-in-law, Delmer Allison; three brothers, Otto, Delwin, and Ivan; four sisters, Frances, Beulah, Lois and Agnes.

KILDARE — Gertrude Frick Smith, pioneer area resident, died Thursday, June 24, 1999, in Houston, Texas. She was 96.
A memorial service is set for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 30, at the Prairie Chapel and Cemetery near Kildare, which the Frick family helped establish in 1898. Pastor David M. Ceballos Jr. of Amherst, Texas will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Claire Brothers Funeral Home, Houston, Texas.
Gertrude Frick Smith was born July 24, 1902, in Kildare to Frank Smith Frick and Susie Smith Frick. She helped in the Frick family Mercantile Hardware business in Uncas, Kildare and Newkirk in the early 1900s. She later worked as a land secretary for the Marland Oil Company in Ponca City. She was married to Charles William Smith Jr. of Stockton, Kan. in 1922. Mrs. Smith faithfully served as volunteer Red Cross nurse, Sunday School teacher, and organist/choir associate for the Methodist, Presbyterian, Christian, and Catholic churches in Kansas, Oklahoma and Arizona for more than 50 years. After the death of her husband in 1950, she was employed as an abstracter for Albright Title and Trust in Newkirk and for the Sweet Title Co., in Stockton, Kan. Mrs. Smith then served as Kay County court secretary to Judge Ralph Haynes for 14 years. After her retirement in 1968, she enjoyed a world tour and visited the Holy Land twice. Mrs. Smith enjoyed being a “helping hand” to the Veterans of Foreign Wars and to the elderly in the Grand Lake and Green Valley communities in Arizona. She was very active as a life member of the PEO in Newkirk and in other communities where she had lived.
Survivors include one son, James T. Smith of Houston, Texas; one sister, Ada Green of Rogers, Ark.; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and six nieces and nephews including Marcelle Gosting of Kildare and Ronald L. Frick of Ponca City. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Frank S. Frick; and three sisters, Carmen Allen, Sue Hall and Nina Stalhut.

Riley W. Storment, 77, Mabelvale, Ark., formerly of the Bolivar area, died June 30, 1999, in Little Rock, Ark. He was born July 22, 1916, in Violet to James Earl and Marie Eunice Storment. He was united in marriage to Wanetta Hulett in 1935 and to Viola M. Hadley in 1966. He was retired from General Motors as a mechanic. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and received a Purple Heart. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Gene Storment. Martha Jane Hammons passed away from this life on March 26, 1999 after a courageous battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
Jane retired from Redstone Arsenal-TMDE as budget officer and secretary in 1988. She also retired from Texas A & M University in Kingsville in 1978. Jane was the Associate Matron of the Mathis Chapter #874 Order of Eastern Star, and past President of the Cenizo Garden Club in Mathis, Texas.
She is survived by five children, Eric C. Gibson of Dalton, Georgia, Lorrell G. Wakeland of League City, Texas, Icie G. Berkman of Arlington, Texas, Ocie G. Whitaker of Missouri City, Texas and M. Gibson of Hitchcock, Texas four sisters, May Hubbell of River Falls, Wisconsin, Mildred Hollingsworth of Stockton, Kansas, Margie Maltby of Kingsville, Texas and Taylor of Tacoma, Washington, twenty grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Friends are invited to celebrate Jane's life with her family from 3:00 to 6:00 P.M. Sunday, March 28 1999 at Seaside Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 29, 1999 in the Seaside Chapel at 1:00 P.M. with a graveside prayer to follow at Seaside Memorial Park.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, March 15, 1999, at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Charles M. Heyer, Associate Pastor, First Christian Church officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home. Mrs. Pray was born on June 24, 1912, in Kildare to Fred and Pearl (Slater) Anson. She attended Ponca City Schools and later attended business college. She married Vern W. Pray on April 20, 1932, in Newkirk. He preceded her in death on October 1, 1987.
The couple made their home in Ponca City where Ms. Pray worked as a secretary. She loved to play cards and spend time with her many friends. She was a member of the First Christian Church and belonged to the choir for over 40 years, and was a member of the Gold Star Mothers.
She is survived by one daughter, Sally Pray Hebert of Atlanta; one daughter-in-law, Renata Pray of Munich, Germany; one sister, Winona J. Bowman of Codell, Kansas; one brother, Howard Anson of Ponca City; one sister-in-law, Lucille Ely of San Diego; five grandchildren, Terry Ammons and his wife, Marti of Atlanta, Todd Ammons and his wife, Christi of Lake Charles, Pam Ammons-Johnson and her husband, Scott of Atlanta, Franklin Pray and his wife, Cindy of New York City, and Sylvia Pray of Munich; six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Vern Lee Pray; four sisters and three brothers.

Mass of Christian Burial were held at Monday, March 15, 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Kimball with Rev. Francis Curran officiating. Burial will follow in the Kimball Cemetery.
He was born on June 26, 1918, at Plainville, Kan. to Vincent and Elizabeth (Hake) Thummel. He moved from Kansas to Kimball in 1939. On June 12, 1948, he married Dorothy Siebenaler in Kimball. They farmed northwest of town for many years. Although semi-retired, he always kept up his interest of farming and agriculture. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Kimball and the Knights of Columbus. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and had served in the Army Medical Corps during World War II. He was an Honorary Chapter Farmer of the FFA. In 1990, he was named a recipient of the Nebraska Outstanding Tree Planter award. During the latter years of his life he had planted and cared for over 20,000 trees.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy of Kimball; sons Duane of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Dale and Allen, both of Kimball, Bruce of Lincoln, and Greg Thummel of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughters Mary and husband Jim Coon of Bayard, Neb., Donna and husband Dan McMasters of Columbus, Ohio, Peggy and husband Darold Spradlin of Cozad, Neb., Shirley Thummel of Sidney, Neb., Theresa and husband Bob Eisinger of Denver, Colo., and Alice and husband Ken Lauer of North Platte, Neb.; brothers Jerry Thummel of Boise, Idaho and Fred Thummel of Midland, Texas; sisters Eleanor Thummel and Angeline Schmitz both of Beloit, Kan., Leona Pair of Sugar Creek, Mo., and Connie Tande of Austin, Texas; and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Miller was born Nov. 28, 1961, in Beloit, to the Rev. Lyle and Jean Miller. He was educated in Beloit before graduating from Winfield High School. Miller had been employed by Sherrard Construction Co., Felts Oil Co. and Range Oil Co., all of Winfield, and Skyline Mobile Home Corp. in Arkansas City. He began employment with Rubbermaid in 1985 and had served the company nearly 14 years as a warehouseman. On April 15, 1983, he married Kathy Elam at Tisdale. They lived in Winfield before moving to Burden in 1986. A member of Tisdale United Methodist Church, he was also affiliated with the Winfield Saddle Club and the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Miller, a son, Jacob Miller, and a daughter, Jessica Miller, all of Burden; his parents, Lyle and Jean Miller, Woodston; his brothers, David Miller, Winfield, and Jim Miller, Newkirk, Okla.; and a sister, Beth Duncan, Brownburg, Ind.

Mrs. Pearson was born April 11, 1928, in Mounds to James E. and Myrtle E. (Edwards) Austin. She lived in Oklahoma City for many years before moving to Tecumseh in 1979. She was a wire frame supervisor and retired from AT& T in 1979. She was a member of the Portland Ave. Pentecostal Holiness Church and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, and Jean Ann Tooman, Tecumseh foster son and his spouse, James " Jim" and Ginger Austin, Oklahoma City two sisters and brothers-in-law, Cleo and Frank Gaddy, Tulsa Etta and Edward McKinnis, Choctaw three brothers and sisters-in-law, Farris and Frances Austin Plainville, Kan. and Beatrice Austin, Bakersfield, Calif. Mr. Malin died Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, at his parents' home. He was born Aug. 30, 1953, in Plainville, the son of Joseph A. and Rita E. Hogan Malin. He graduated from Plainville High School in 1971. He received his bachelor's degree in business accounting from Kansas University in 1975, and graduated from Washburn University Law School in 1978 with a juris doctor degree. He opened a law practice in 1979 in Plainville and then joined Liberty Enterprises as legal counsel in 1981, holding that position until his death. He had also been general counsel, stockholder and an officer of Dessin/Fournir, C.S. Post & Co. and the Classic Cloth Companies, and he was general counsel and an officer of Liberty Operations and Completions. He was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He had served on the Plainville City Council and for 17 years on the Plainville Recreation Committee. He was an active member and past officer of the Plainville Booster Club. He was one of the founders of the Plainville Men's Basketball League and in recent years was the voice of the Cardinals, announcing football and other Plainville High School athletic activities.
Survivors include his parents, Plainville; his stepgrandmother, Christine Hogan, Natoma; four brothers, Jared, Ottawa, Steven, Lawrence, Michael, Salina, and David, Arlington, Tex.; and four sisters, Lori Davidson, Russell, Lois Malin, Garden City, Barbara Sheffer, Lone Oak, Tex., and Christi Malin, Dallas.

She was born March 15, 1910, in Highmore, SD. Mrs. Knudson owned a store in Lakebay and was involved with Avon for 15 years. She was a member of the Home Chapel.
Survivors include a son, Chris of Honolulu; a daughter, Irene Rodman of Stockton, Kan.; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore in 1990; a son, Myron; a daughter, Sylvia Holden; and a granddaughter, Cynthia Knudson.

Mrs. Malcom was born Aug. 5, 1917 in Woodston, Kan., to the Rev. J. Wayne and Irene Myrtle Dibble Kurtz. She was married to Louis Eugene Tatum. She was later married to Bert Malcom on Oct. 7, 1945. He preceded her in death Dec. 7, 1957.
Survivors include three sons, Kenneth Tatum of Kaw City, Okla., Donald Eugene Tatum of Wichita, Kan., and Darrell Wayne Malcom of Louisiana; two daughters, Linda Joyce Grant of Louisiana and Janet Eileen Greenfield of Houston, Texas; one sister, Rosalee Baker of St. Peters; three brothers, Alfred Kurtz of Albuquerque, N.M., Loren Kurtz of Hannibal and Robert Kurtz of Plymouth, Mich.; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Nancy Miller; and one brother, Howard Kurtz.
Mrs. Malcom had been employed at the Twilight Motel and Paddock Motel in Vandalia for several years. Later she baked and decorated cakes for special occasions. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Vandalia where her father was a pastor in the early years.

She graduated from Mary Mount High School in Salina. She taught school and was later the head cook at Sacred Heart School and bookkeeper for the lunch room for 32 years before retiring in 1987. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ladies Guild, Daughters of Isabella and the Stitch & Chatter Club, all in Plainville. She married William V. Meyers on Jan. 9, 1933, in Plainville. He survives of the home.

HOTCHKISS Doris Evelyn Todd, age 85, a homemaker, restaurant cook, and a resident of Hotchkiss since 1931, died on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, in the Paonia Care & Rehabilitation Center.
Doris Evelyn Bice, the daughter of Elmer and Alma (Addams) Bice, was born on July 14, 1913, in Codell, Kan., where she spend her childhood, graduated from high school, and grew to adulthood. Miss Bice married Elmer W. Todd on June 3, 1931, in Hotchkiss, Colo. The couple were blessed with four children and were privileged to celebrate 67 years of marriage this year in June. Following their marriage, the Todd's moved to Hotchkiss where Mrs. Todd made her home for 67 years until the time of her death. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hotchkiss, the Hotchkiss Harmony Club, and the Cotton Wood Club. The love and joy of Mrs. Todd's life was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, and gardening.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mrs. Todd's life include her husband, Elmer Todd, of Hotchkiss; three sons: Rev. Keith Todd and wife Kathy, of Pine River, Minn.; Roger Todd and wife Jean, of Avon Park, Fla.; Jere Todd and wife Linda, of Rock Spring, Texas; and one daughter, Kaye Todd, of Hotchkiss.
She was the proud grandmother of 34 grandchildren and great-grandmother of numerous great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include two brothers: Hollis Bice, of Rickreall, Ore.; Raymond Bice, of Otis, Ore.; and six sisters: Patty Brooks, of Otis, Ore.; Gladys Penland, of Hotchkiss; Bonnie Ratharmell, of Gleneden Beach, Ore.; Lola Ansiel, of Lincoln City, Ore.; Jean Dunn, of Rockaway, Ore.; and Peggy Moore, of Mill City, Ore.
Mrs. Todd was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Alma Bice; three brothers; and one son, Rodney Todd.
Funeral Services in remembrance and to honor Mrs. Todd's life will be officiated by her son, Rev. Keith Todd, on Tuesday, Dec. 29, at 2 p.m. from the First Baptist Church in Hotchkiss.
Private family interment will follow the service in the Riverside Cemetery at Hotchkiss, with arrangements being handled under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service, Inc.

Norman G. Rubottom, 84, of Woodston, passed away Monday, August 3, 1998, at the Osborne County Memorial Hospital in Osborne . He was born September 27, 1913 on the family homestead south of Woodston, the son of Lester A. and Cloa Belle (Cooper) Rubottom. He graduated from the Woodston Rural High School in 1932. He married Bernice L. Worden on May 1, 1937 in Alton. They continued farming and ranching south of Woodston until moving into Woodston in 1994. He was a member of Paradise Lodge #290 in Plainville.
Survivors include his wife Bernice of the home; two sons, Gorman, Stockton, and Darrell, Woodston; a daughter, Cheryll Mertz, Downs; sister Mildred Unruh, Greensburg; eight grandchildren, 7great-grandchildren, and three step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gordon Rubottom; and one sister, Marguerite Shepard.

PLAINVILLE - Everett Aaron " Jeff" Lamb, 89, Plainville, died Sunday, May 24, 1998, at his home. Mr. Lamb was born May 30, 1908, at Codell and was a Plainville resident since 1974, moving from Codell. He was a farmer and worked for Deep Rock Oil Co., Rooks County Road Department and Doc's Well Service, retiring in 1974. He was a member of Codell Baptist Church and Paradise Lodge 290, Plainville, where he was a 50-year member.
He was preceded in death by a grandson.
Survivors include his wife, of the home five daughters, Gaylyn Andrews of Stockton, Karolyn Eastep of Sedalia, Mo., Sharolyn Gramm of Codell, Beverly Nelson of Lehigh, Fla., and Jacquelyn Werner of Plainville two sisters, Ethel Nelson and Lottie Rolfe both of Plainville a half sister, Lennice Smith of Codell 17 grandchildren 27 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Codell Baptist Church, the Rev. Troy Buss officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery, rural Codell.

Teens arrested in shooting of off-duty officer
HOUSTON (AP) - Three teens have been arrested and charged in the fatal shooting of an off-duty Houston police sergeant on Friday night, authorities said. Houston Police Sgt. Kent D. Kincaid was shot when he tried to question a driver he thought had thrown something at his windshield. Police now believe the object was actually a slug from a .25-caliber handgun. Anthony Haynes, 19, of Missouri City, and Timothy Reese, 18, of Houston, were arrested in Haynes' truck late Sunday night in northwest Houston, police said. A 16-year-old from Houston was arrested separately. Investigators believe Haynes is the shooter. He was jailed on one count of capital murder and two counts of aggravated robbery, police said. Reese and the juvenile each face one count of aggravated robbery. The robbery charges stem from three assaults earlier Friday night. At a press conference Monday, Harris County Sheriff Tommy Thomas indicated that the key break in the case was a tip from a man who had been harassed by Haynes and Reese in the neighborhood where the shooting occurred. Asked whether the suspects expressed remorse about the shooting, Thomas said, "They were remorseful for the fact they got caught." Sheriff's Sgt. Robert Black said the 40-year-old Kincaid and his wife, Nancy, were driving about a block from their house around 11:15 p.m. Friday when their Jeep was hit by an object that appeared to come from a passing truck. Black said Kincaid turned his vehicle around and followed the pickup for several blocks. He said the truck stopped, and Kincaid got out and began approaching the driver's side of the truck. Authorities say that Kincaid told the truck's occupants he was an off-duty police officer. He was shot once in the head, and the pickup sped away, Black said. Kincaid, a 13-year veteran, died shortly after arriving at Hermann Hospital. Houston Police homicide Capt. Richard Holland said Kincaid's widow expressed relief at the arrests.
Services for Kincaid will be today at Bear Creek United Methodist Church in Houston. He will be buried Thursday in Stockton, Kan.

He retired from Mobil Oil, where he was a pumper.

Lester M. “Les” Headley, 82, 333 Woodlawn Ave., died Tuesday, May 13, 1997 , at his home. Mr. Headley was born July 14, 1914 at Vici, Okla., and was a resident of the Carneiro and Brookville areas before moving to Salina in 1940. He worked for Sears for 21 years, retiring in 1976. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Salina.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine of the home; a daughter, Sabra Headley of Plano, Texas; three sisters, Gladys Garnett of Hutchinson and Sylvia Danner and Nellie Armstrong, both of Abilene; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at the First United Methodist Church, 122 N. Eighth, the Rev. David Weible officiating.
Memorials may be made to American Heart Association or Peacemakers Sunday School Class.
The body was cremated.

Gordon L. Stewart, 73, of Amarillo, died Monday, May 12, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in NS. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors Pioneer Chapel, 2615 Paramount Blvd., with Lee Roark, chaplain of Baptist St. Anthony's Health System, officiating. Burial will be in Stockton Cemetery at Stockton, Kan. Mr. Stewart was born and raised in Stockton. He was an Army veteran of World War II having served in New Guinea. After being in the service, he owned and operated a shoe store in Stockton for eight years. He then moved to Ohio and was a shoe salesman for Williams Manufacturing. He married Lois Wilkerson in 1966 at Denver. He moved to Amarillo in 1969 and was an insurance salesman for Bankers Life & Casualty until retiring in 1985. Since retiring he had been a security guard at Amarillo National Bank at Bell Street and 45th Avenue. Mr. Stewart was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Stockton. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Mitchell Stephens, on April 9. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Teresa Stamps of Amarillo and Becky Stewart of Kansas City, Kan.; two sons, Bruce Stewart of Wichita, Kan., and Alan Stewart of California; a stepson, Michael Stephens of Amarillo; two stepdaughters, Michelle Nichols of Gaylord, Kan., and Melanie Bartley of Smith Center, Kan.; and eight grandchildren.

Arthur A. Elder, 72, Joplin, died at 12:57 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, 1996, at Freeman Hospital West after a short illness. Mr. Elder was born Oct. 11, 1923, at Woodston, Kan. He lived most of his childhood at Rocky Comfort. He was a farmer in the Stella area and later moved to Siloam Springs, Ark. He attended John Brown University at Siloam Springs. He moved to Joplin in 1952. He was an inspector at Sperry-Vickers Inc. in Joplin for 27 years. He was a member and past elder of the Church of Christ, Fourth Street and Forest Avenue. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Philippines and the Caroline Islands. He married Nadine Cole on June 25, 1942, at Cassville. She survives.
Additional survivors include a son, Kenneth Elder, Independence; a daughter, Carolyn Baker, Louisburg, Kan.; three sisters, Dorothy Cole, Joplin, Evelyn Clifton, Independence, and Donna Hall, Cement, Okla.; a grandson; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary. Gary Morrison and Patrick Peck, ministers, will officiate.
Graveside services and burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Maplewood Cemetery, Exeter. Lowell Thomas will officiate.
Pallbearers will be John Hershey, Ralph Purcell, Bill Black, Arthur Strobel, Bob Wiley, Frank Dugan, Gordon Skerritt and Gene Frisbie.

Charles Loren Fondoble (1907-1996) was a dirt track specialist who did most of his racing in Kansas. He started racing cars in 1929 and won his first race at Quinter, KS in 1931. He also held the one lap track record at Wakeeney, KS for several years. Loren was listed in had moved to Palco, KS by 1937 and was living in Wichita, KS in the early 1950s.

Sister Veronica Roy, 55, a Sister of St. Joseph of Concordia, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 1995, in an automobile accident north of Minneapolis. She was born December 28, 1939, in Damar to John and Olive (Morin) Roy. She was baptized Ila Mae. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1958 and received the habit of her religious name, Veronica, on March 18, 1959. She made first vows on March 19, 1960, and final profession of vows on March 19, 1963. In 1960, she began studies at Marymount College, completed her degree in dietetics in 1963, and interned as a hospital dietitian in Cincinnati, Ohio. She began her professional work at St. Joseph's Hospital in Belvidere, Il, from 1980 to 1989, she served as a consulting dietician for several small rural hospitals in western Kansas and did pastoral work in Christ the King Catholic Church, WaKeeney. From 1990 to 1995, she lived in New Almelo and served as a pastoral associate for the parishes in Logan and New Almelo. In June 1995, she was elected to the leadership team of the Sisters of St. Joseph and took up residence in Concordia.
Survivors include four brothers, Kenneth, WaKeeney, The Rev. Duane Roy, Mineiros, Goias, Brazil, Roger, Stockton, and Rodney, Hays; and three sisters, Joan Rader, Littleton, Colo., Linda Cross, Reston, Va., and Cheryl Calvin, Wichita.
Services were held Saturday morning in the Convent Chapel, Concordia, with the Rev. Alfred Wasinger officiating. Burial was in the Nazareth Convent Cemetery.

Duane Edwin Hazen, 88, passed away Saturday, Aug. 12, 1995, at his home in Stockton. He was born April 21, 1907, to Ira T. and Minnie (Reeder) Hazen. He was a lifelong resident of Rooks County. He was married to Fauna Harwood on May 25, 1929. She passed away on Oct. 4, 1986. They farmed in Greenfield and Farmington townships. He was active in 4-H activities and continued to farm until 1976. Survivors include a daughter, Shirlee Muir, Stockton two sisters, Hayes, Ellsworth and Maxine Headley, Salina five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, one brother and one sister. Services were held Tuesday at Smith-Moore Memorial Chapel in Stockton, Rev. Don Rock officiating. Interment was in Stockton Cemetery. Lura E. Ekey, 87, Plainville, died Friday, March 24, 1995, at the home of her son in Topeka.
She was born February 7, 1908 on a farm near Codell to J. and Tulia B. (Edson) Overholser.
She married Emery S. Ekey on March 31, 1926 in Codell. He died November 30, 1970. She was a homemaker, a member of the First Baptist Church, Codell, and had been the church pianist and organist for 65 years. She had been a Plainville resident since 1966, moving from Codell.
Survivors include two sons, and Doyle both of Topeka five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant son and her husband.
Services were Tuesday in the First Baptist Church, Codell, with the Rev. Troy Buss officiating burial in the Shiloh Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to the church. Article provided by Doyle Ekey.

Murl Edwin Bales 93, of Penrose, CO died March 21, 1994, in Canon City, CO. He was born Feb. 13, 1901, in Stockton, Kan., to Eddie Elie and Mary Lemma Skidmore Bales. Mr. Bales spent 48 years as a telegrapher and agent for the railroad. Throughout his years in the railroad business, he worked for many different railroads, but most of his 48 years were spent with the Missouri Pacific Railroad. He enjoyed his work with the railroad, and his time there moved him and his family to several different communities throughout the area, including Serbian Lake and Bowler, CO. He had a great love for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as all of his family. It was one of his greatest joys to watch his family grow. Mr. Bales enjoyed camping and fishing trips and sitting around the campfire with his family and talking. On April 1, 1929 he was married in Pratt, Kan., to Marie Zorb, who survives. Also surviving are four children; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Mr. Bales was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 25, at 2:30 P.M. at the Eads Cemetery, Elder Michael Kissner officiated the services. Miss Doris Lessenden sang "Life's Railway to Heaven" as a special tribute to a longtime railroad man.

Donald Luther Hoskins, 67, of 501 East Franklin Avenue in Geneva, died Friday Dec 31, 1993, at the Wiregrass Hospital in Geneva after suffering a massive heart attack at his home.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan 3, 1994 at 2 p.m. in the chapel at Pittman Funeral Home in Geneva with Coy Haney officiating. Burial was at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Pittman Funeral Home directing.
The family received friends at the funeral home Sunday, Jan. 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. The family requests that flowers be omitted and donations given to either the American Heart Association, the Geneva Public Library, the Geneva Community Church or Robert Fowler Park in Geneva.
Mr. Hoskins was a native of Codell, Ks., a veteran of World War II and from 1953-63 worked with the Boeing Company in Wichita. He worked with Boeing in Huntsville from 1963-71 on the Apollo Space Program,. He was an engineering field representative for Auburn University from 1972-88 working for the cities in Geneva County. He worked for the City of Geneva from 1988-93 and retired in April 1993.
Mr. Hoskins received a bachelor of science degree in 1952 from Fort Hays State College in Hays. He attended MIT in Cambridge, Ma. in 1971, and received a diploma from the summer program in urban studies. In 1972, he took senior and graduate engineering courses at Auburn University.
He held numerous engineering certificates including a grade one certificate as a qualified building inspector. He was on the board of directors for the Southeast Alabama Regional Landfill Authority and was the representative for the city and County of Geneva on many projects throughout the years.
Mr. Hoskins was preceded in death by his parents, Ellis Blaine Hoskins and Cloe Glendening Hoskins of Osborne, two brothers, Wilfred Dale of Manhattan and Arden Victor of Winfield.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Wood Hoskins of Geneva two sons, a daughter-in-law, Mrs. and Mrs. Douglas Blaine Hoskins of Blountsville, Al., Mark Randall Hoskins of Clayhatchee one sister Mrs. Twila Romne of Osborne and two granddaughters, Livy and Blaine Hoskins of Blountsville.

He married Edna B., Graham in Hays. She died July 22, 1957. He was a retired farmer, and had lived in Plainville since 1900. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and former member of Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include three sons; Robert J., Plainville, Donald G., Minden, La., and Max, Philadelphia; a brother, Carl, Plainville; a sister, Lucy Morgan, San Diego; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

EARL C. DROTTS, 99, died Thursday, March 21 at St Francis Hospital in Wichita. He was born August 2, 1891 in Alcona Township, Rooks County, to August and Ellen (Clampet) Drotts. He married Evelyn Reed on June 24, 1923 in Rooks CO. She died Sept 24, 1988. He lived in rural Rooks CO, near Phillipsburg, most of his life. He later moved to Hays. He had been a Wichita resident since Oct 1989.
He was a farmer and had owned a filling station and bulk plant in Buchanan. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion, all of Stockton, and the Logan Masonic Lodge. He was a World War I Veteran.
Survivors include two sons, Glenn, Wichita, and Norman, Topeka; a daughter, Lucy Clouse, Hutchinson, Minn., nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services were held Monday afternoon at Smith-Moore Funeral Home, Stockton, with the Rev. Lyle Miller officiating. Burial was in Slate Cemetery in NW Rooks Co. The family suggests memorials to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8873, Stockton, Kansas.

Verda E. Perkins, 89, Plainville, died Thursday, February 15, 1990, at the Plainville Rural Hospital.
Mrs. Perkins was born Verda E. Overholser on March 10, 1900, in rural Rooks County. She was a homemaker, and a member of the United Methodist Church, a member, past Worthy Matron and past District Aide of the Plainville Chapter No. 479 Order of the Eastern Star, both of Plainville, a member of the Rebekah Lodge, Stockton, and the Sunflower Sisters Club, rural Plainville.
She was married to Teasley until 1933.
Her second husband, C. E. Simpson, died in 1960, and her third husband, A. Perkins, died in 1974.
Survivors include four sons, Simpson of St. Anthony, Id., Elwyn Teasley of Salina, Herb Simpson of Plainville, and Allen Simpson of Oklahoma City, Ok. a daughter, Thurlene Perkins Singer of Phoenix a sister, Lura Ekey of Plainville 10 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
The funeral was Sunday at the United Methodist Church, Plainville, the Rev. Verle Shoemaker officiating. An Order of Eastern Star service followed the funeral. She married Loyd Stice September 3, 1970, in Stockton. He died August 6, 1977. She continued quite active until a few years ago and was known as a king and helpful neighbor and friend. Her hobby was knitting and she was an expert. When her eyesight failed and she was no longer able to knit it was very hard on her. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Women's Fellowship and the VFW Auxiliary, and Chapter 479 Order of Eastern Star, Plainville. She married Sherman Hazen. He and a son, Donald, preceded her in death. She was a member of Sacred Hearth Catholic Church. Survivors include a daughter, Theall, Bowie, MD two brothers, Joseph Westhusin, Portland, Ore., and Tommy Westhusin, Plainville three sisters Nell Laubhan, Russell, and Dorothy Lille and Pauline Sidey, both of Mesa, Ariz. and three grandchildren. Vernon Overholser---Services for Vernon G. Overholser, 89, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Nampa, died Wednesday, Nov. 11 1987, in a Mesa nursing home were Saturday at Flahiff Funeral Chapel of Nampa.
The Rev. Kenneth B. Britt of the Nampa First Christian Church officiated. Private burial was in Kohlerlawn Cemetery, Nampa, on Monday.
Mr. Overholser was born Feb. 15, 1898 at Codell to Wilborn J. and Tulia Belle Edson Overholser. He was reared and attended school there. He married Agnes Jeanette Adams on July 31, 1918 at Stockton and they made their home in Kansas until moving to Idaho in 1936. They moved to Nampa in 1937 and owned and operated Overholser’s Auto Court near the PFE shops from 1937 until 1964. Overholser died Oct. 11, 1965. He had since resided in Mesa.
He is survived by a son, Avon Overholser of Salinas, Calif. Three daughters, Vyonne G. Overholser of Salinas, Audrey J. Peterson of Boise and Gyla I. Peterson of Mesa, Arizona. two sisters Perkins and Lura Ekey, both of Plainville 10 grandchildren 14 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Ethel Lacy Collins, 96, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, died Friday, April 17, 1987 in a local nursing home after an extended illness.
She was a homemaker and had farmed with her husband in Plainville, Kansas prior to moving to Colorado Springs, Colorado. She had owned and operated Ethel’s Cafe for several years before moving to Colorado.
Services were at 10 a.m. Monday April 20, 1987 at the Sunset Chapel Mortuary with the Rev. Robert Fryholm officiating. Burial was in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Mrs. Collins was born November 18, 1890, in Osage County, Kansas to C. D. and Clara (Stone) Lacy. She lived in Plainville, Kansas, before moving to Colorado Springs in 1957. Mrs. Collins was a charter member of Second Horizon and active in the group’s arts and crafts section. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. She married December 17, 1913, in Codell, Kansas to Collins, who died in 1968.
Mrs. Collins is survived by two daughters, Thelma Beals of Hays, Kansas and Althea Groom of Colorado Springs, Colorado five grandchildren 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great grand-child.

Perry G. Groom, 77, of Colorado Springs, Colorado died Saturday, April 4, 1987 in a Colorado hospital.
The Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 7, 1987 at the Sunset Chapel Mortuary with the Reverend Robert Frykholm officiating. Burial was in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Groom was born August 21, 1909 to and Rachel (Shumard) Groom in Plainville, Kansas. He married July 18, 1939 to Althea Collins in Codell. She lives at 1405 S. Wahsatah, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Groom was a World War II Army veteran. He lived in Colorado Springs since 1955 and was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was an auto mechanic for the Dodge dealership for 21 years and a member of Retread Motorcycle Club.

Elsie Loreg, 91, died Monday, January 12, 1987 at the Plainville Rural Hospital. She was born at Waverly, Kansas. October 14, 1895 to Joseph Bluford and Cora Romine. She married Theodore Loreg on December 24, 1913.
Survivors include for daughters, Grace Boyer, Lela Teasley, Beulah Shubert, of Plainville and Betty Reed of Great Bend, one brother, Bruce Romine of Palco and two sisters; Madge Nickel of Salina and Alice Richmond of Plainville; nine grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren and also many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore, one son, Verle and one daughter, Virginia.
Elsie and Theodore celebrated their fiftieth anniversary in 1963. She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister.

Mrs. Fauna Hazen a life-time and highly respected woman of Stockton community, died October 4 at the Plainville Hospital. She had been in failing health for several years and had recently been a resident at the Solomon Valley Manor. She had been in the hospital only a few days. She was 81 yeas of age. Mrs. Hazen was born July 23, 1905 on a farm near Stockton to Walter G. and Faye (Peaslee) Harwood. She graduated from the Stockton High School in 1924 and taught rural school and also the second grade in Stockton and Plainville before her marriage May 22, 1929 to Duane Hazen. She had given much time as a 4-H Club leader and was an EHU member. She is survived by her husband of the home a daughter Shirlee Muir of Stockton five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The funeral services were Tuesday morning at the Smith-Moore Funeral Home, with Rev. Mel Shephard, the officiating clergyman, and burial was in the Stockton Cemetery. Mrs. Mary Ruth Young of Salina died there at the Asbury Hospital, October 14, at the age of 74. She was born September 14, 1911 at Stockton, the daughter of Ira T. and Minnie (Reeder) Hazen. She was married in 1942 in California to R. Young, who died in 1956. She spent a good many years as an overseas civil service worker and retired and moved from Korea to Salina in 1972. Her survivors include a brother, Duane Hazen of Stockton and two sisters, Mrs. Maxine Headley of Salina and Norma Hays of Palco. Graveside services were at the Stockton Cemetery Wednesday afternoon. He was born Dec. 18, 1953, in Powell, Wyo., to Jack and Evelyn (Vonburg) Lewis. He married Rebecca Jo Korb Dec. 18, 1976, in Stockton. He grew up in Powell and graduated from Powell High School. He later graduated from Washington State University and from Kansas State University Veterinary College in 1979. He moved to Driggs in 1980 where he set up a veterinary practice with his wife. He was secretary of the Eastern Idaho Veterinary Association. Survivors include his wife and two daughters, Shelly and Betsy, all of Driggs his mother, Evelyn Lewis, Powell, Wyo. one brother, Randy Lewis Laramie, Wyo. two sisters, Brown, Helena, Mont., and Becky Ann Lewis, Laramie, Wyo. his grandmother, Mrs. Charles Vonburg, Jr Basin, Wyo. Services were Friday at 2 p.m. at the Driggs LDS Stake Center. There was a viewing from 7-9 pm Thursday at Trimble Funeral Home in Driggs and one hour prior to services at the Stake Center on Friday. Graveside services were Saturday at 10 am at the Crown Hill Cemetery in Powell, Wyo. A memorial fund is being set up in Tim's name, to provide a scholarship to an Idaho or Wyoming veterinary student. Robert Wayne Criswell, son of John and Minnie (Bondy) Criswell, was born April 1, 1910, and departed this life May 21, 1983, at the age of 73 years, 1 month and 20 days. He grew to manhood in Graham County and completed high school in 1928. He served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945. In June of 1946, he married Twila Acheson. To this union, two children, Janice and Robert, were born. After serving as an undersheriff, Wayne was sheriff of Graham County from 1946 to 1950. He served as Chairman for the Graham County Republican Party for a number of years. In 1951, Wayne began clerking at the Hill City Sale Barn and continued there until July of 1971. During this time he also clerked for Legere Auction and Realty and the Plainville Sale Barn. His familiarity with local and area people made clerking easy and enjoyable work for him. In addition to these part time jobs, Wayne continued his farming and cattle operation north of Penokee on land which has belonged to his family for four (4) generations. Wayne served on the Farmers and Merchants Bank Advisory Board from 1971 to 1974. He was a member of VFW Post #8957, the Hill City American Legion and Millbrook Lodge #281. Since his retirement as a farmer-stockman, "Cris", as he was know, joined his friends drinking coffee and playing cards. During the past year and a half, Wayne greatly enjoyed his grandson, Jess Robert, whom he described as "quite a boy."
Surviving are his wife, Twila; a daughter Janice of Grainfield; a son, Robert L. and his wife, Janice; one grandson, Jess of Hays; his sister, May, and brother-in-law, Tommy Troxel.

Mrs. Lola M. Overholser, 85, Salina, died Monday, April 18, 1983, at Asbury Hospital, Salina, after a long illness. Mrs. Overholser was born April 4, 1898, at Luray, and spent many years as a teacher in north central Kansas high schools before retiring in 1959. After graduation from Osborne High School, she suffered an illness which kept her bedridden for two years. Recovering, she attended Kansas Wesleyan School of Commerce, began a teaching career and after 29 years, returned to KW to earn a bachelors degree. In later years she taught at Plainville and Luray high schools. After retirement, she and her husband, Raymond, traveled extensively. They moved to Salina from Rural Natoma in 1965. Her husband died in January 1978. She was a member of the University United Methodist Church, Methodist Women, Order of the Eastern Star and Kansas Retired Teachers Association.
She is survived by a brother, Alfred Hirst, Salina; and a sister, Mrs. Amy Taylor of Osborne.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m,. Friday, April 22 at the Geisendorf Funeral Home in Salina. Entombment will be in Mausoleum Williamsburg.

She was a member of the Methodist Church and the Order of Eastern Star. -She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Norman (Madge) Nicholson of Magalia, California Six Grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The service today is being assisted by ladies of the National Woman's Relief Corps Auxiliary of which Adams was a member. Nellie Blanch Adams, born July 26, 1900 in Columbus, Kansas, was the youngest of six children born to John Gilbert and Nancy Alice Coldiron. March 17, 1915, she married Dean Weaver Adams, and they moved to Idaho and took up a homestead. They had one son, John Wright Adams. They later moved to the Kennewick-Pasco area before coming to Portland in the early part of World War II. Mrs. Adams was employed by J. C. Penney Co. and The Curtain Store, retiring in 1966. She was a member of the Foursquare Church. Her husband and son preceded her in death in 1968. She is survived by four grandchildren, Ann Wentz, Geri Egan, Patty Kerby and John Adams, all residing in Washington and nieces and nephews, Loraine Sherwin and Pamela Sparks of Portland, and Whitworth of Garibaldi. Also, Darrell Reeder, now residing in Nebraska, and several other nieces and nephews living outside Oregon. She left a great gift to us all: Love the Lord, do not judge your neighbor, and above all, love each other. She will indeed be missed. Matilda Hinkhouse, 102, died Wednesday, November 12, 1980; at Plainville Rural Hospital. She was born October 7, 1878, in St. George, IL, the daughter of Alex and Elizabeth Raymond Belisle. She married Frank Hinkhouse on November 2, 1900; he died in 1967. She had been a long-time resident of the Palco community. She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Zurich and St. Ann’s Sodality. She is survived by a daughter-in-law; Florence Hinkhouse of Hays. John F. Roy, who was a life-time resident of Rooks County, died November 30, 1978 at the Plainville Hospital at the age of 69. He had been ill the past year and hospitalized much of the time. John was born at Damar, June 2, 1910, the son of Phillisime and Laura Saindon Roy and was married to Olive Morin in 1932. He had farmed southwest of Stockton for many years and was active in affairs in his community, where he was held in high regard. He had also driven a school bus for a number of years and was much thought of by both the parents and the children entrusted to him. He and his wife, not only successfully reared a large family but, had hosted foreign exchange youth to this country. He was a member of the St. Thomas Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus.
Besides his wife, Olive, he is survived by five sons, Kenneth of WaKeeney, Allan of Strasburg, Colo., Father Duane of Mineiros, Goias, Brazil, Roger of Stockton, and Rodney of Hays; four daughters, Sister Veronica of Belvidere, Ill., Mrs. Joan Rader of Lakewood, Colo., Mrs. Linda Monarchi of Boulder, Colo., and Mrs. Cheryl Calvin of Burley, Idaho; four brothers, Dona and Omer of Damar, Phillip of Mabel, Minn., and Emile of Englewood, Colo.; three sisters, Mrs. Rosalee Benoit, of Esben, Mrs. Zella Rickard of Madison, Wisc., and Mrs. Jeannette Hinz of Bartlett, Ill.
There was a Rosary Friday evening at the Smith Memorial Chapel and the funeral was Saturday morning at the St. Thomas Church in Stockton and burial was in the St. Joseph Cemetery at Damar.

She is survived by her husband a daughter Marjorie Bronson of Pamona, Calif. a brother, Virl Benedick of Holsington three sisters, Viola Thomas, Coolidge, Ariz., Mrs. Gladiola Baker of Stockton, and Mrs. Gwendolyn Phelps of Plainville two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were Monday at the Plainville Christian Church and burial was in the Plainville Cemetery.

Raymond V. Overholser was born February 12, 1906 near Codell, Kansas, and passed away at the Kenwood View Nursing Home in Salina, Kansas on January 10, 1978. -He was united in Marriage to Lola M. Hirst on December 19, 1930.
He was a graduate of Codell High School, Fort Hays College and Kansas Wesleyan University. He loved to play football and was a member of his team both in high school and in college. -After graduation Ray taught in High School and coached football in the Plainville and Beloit areas for a few years. He then took up wheat farming and cattle raising which he enjoyed. He made this his life's work. He retired in 1965 and he and his wife moved to Salina at that time. He was a member of the University Methodist Church in Saline, the Blue Lodge and Eastern Star in Plainville and the York Rite and Commandry in Hays and the Isis Shrine, Salina.
Survivors are his wife, Lola, of the home; a brother Vernon, Mesa, Arizona; and two sisters, Mrs. Verda Perkins and Mrs. Lura Ekey, both of Plainville
Casket bearers were nephews, Elwyn Teasley, Eldon Reed, Herbert Simpson, Allen Simpson, Denzelll Ekey and Doyle Ekey. -The funeral was held at the Geisendorf-Rush Funeral Home in Saline. The Rev. Chester L. Buchheister, Cascade, Colorado, died Wednesday December 7, 1977, in a Colorado Springs hospital. He was born September 24, 1906 in Plainville, Kansas, and had been a resident of Colorado since 1939. He was married December 31, 1956 in Raton, New Mexico. He retired from the restaurant business and had served in the U. S. Navy during World War II.

He was an employee of John O. Farmer, Inc.

Vinton A. Perkins, was born January 8, 1890 in Sheridan County, Kansas, and passed away February 4, 1974 at the Plainville Rural Hospital. He moved with his parents to Plainville in 1891 where he resided all his life. Early in 1906 he started working at the Plainville Mill and Elevator Co. for Burroughs Brothers and assisted in installing the first light plant in Plainville and distributing the first line of service, continuing with electrical work for 53 years, retiring from Western Light and Telephone Company in 1959. On February 6, 1911 he was united in marriage with Marshall. She passed away in April, 1960. This union was blessed with one daughter, Thurlene. His second marriage was to Perkins in December, 1963. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church and the Masonic orders, and Order of Eastern Star. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Verda, of the home his daughter, and husband, Joe Singer, and grandson, Devin, all of Phoenix, Arizona two sisters, Mrs. Elfie Lawler of Plainville, and Mrs. Myra Jackson of San Diego, Calif., and two brothers: Elwyn of Olivehurst, Calif., and Alpin of Portland, Oregon, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral Services were held February 6 and the United Methodist Church with Rev. Garner Berg officiating. Burial was in the Plainville cemetery. Pallbearers were Harold Hockett, Clarence Abbott, Donald Collins, Otto Benedick, Bemis and Keas.

Jack Toelkes, 81, died Wednesday, July 19, at the Plainville Rural Hospital. Born March 7, 1892, in Tipton, he was a retired farmer and a longtime resident of the Plainville community.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine, of the home; one son, Edward, Winston-Salem, N.C.; one daughter, Mrs. Francis (Mary Catherine) Thummel, Plainville; five brothers; Jim, Phoenix, Ariz.; Fred, Perryton; John, Goodland; Joe and Carl, Plainville; three sisters: Mrs. Catherine Malin, Genoa, Wis.; Mrs. Anna Stahl, Hays; Mrs. Lucy Morgan, San Diego, Cal.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Clarence Ivan Ekey 74, of Natoma, Kansas , died Saturday, January 13, 1973 at the Hadley Regional Medical Center in Hays. He was a retired oil field pumper employed by Cities Service, and was a member of the Natoma United Methodist church, and Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star chapter there.
Survivors include his wife, of the home one step-daughter, Mrs. Madge Nicholson of California one brother, Edward Ekey of Hays and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 16 at the Natoma United Methodist church with Reverend John McGuire officiating. Burial was in the Natoma cemetery with Masonic graveside services.

Clarence Ivan Ekey son of James and Mary Ekey was born May 27, 1899 near Lucas, Russell County, Kansas. He took his schooling in a country school rural Plainville, Kansas.
Clarence was a custodian at the Codell School for about three years.
He was united in holy matrimony to Rena Farr on August 27, 1940. He was a father to his wife's two daughters by a former marriage. Clarence was a pumper for the Cities Service Oil Company for several years, retiring in 1964.
He was active in the Natoma Masonic Lodge #390-, The Eastern Star, Mason Father of the Rainbow Girls, and an active member of the United Methodist Church and Men’s Club of Natoma. Clarence took an active part in the civic affairs of the community.
He as been in ill health for the past several months and under doctor’s care at the Hadley Regional Medical Center, Hays, Kansas where he passed on, January 13, 1973 at the age of 73 years, 7 months, and 16 days. He is survived by his wife Rena of the home, 1 step daughter, Nicholson of Nevada, California, 2 step grand children, Mary Beth and Pat Pelzel of the home, Pelzel of Coco, Florida, Linda Sue Hinkson of Atlanta, Georgia, and Barbara Jo Reeves of Sharkes, Florida, 1 brother of hays, Kansas and 2 nieces and 5 nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Emery Stuart Ekey, son of James F. and Mary A. (Austen) Ekey was born January 21, 1901 near Lucas in Russell County, Kansas and departed this life at Plainville, Rooks County, Kansas on November 30, 1970. In 1908 the family moved to Ellis county, where he spent his boyhood years. They later moved to Codell, Kansas. On March 31, 1926 he was united in marriage to Lura E. Overholser at Codell. He was active in farming in that community until moving to Plainville, Kansas in 1966. As an active member of the Codell Baptist church he served as its treasurer from 1929 until his death.(41 years) . He was active in the community, holding township, school board and Farm Bureau offices. Enjoyment came to him in helping others, both family and friends. He was preceded in death by an infant son August 7, 1929. Survivors include his wife, Lura, of the home two sons and their wives Denzell and Sally Ekey of Topeka, Kansas Doyle and Ruby Ekey of Warrensburg, Missouri eight grandchildren, two brothers, R. E. Ekey of Hays, Kansas and Ekey of Natoma, Kansas and many other relatives and a host of friends.
Men are two kinds and he was the kind I’d like to be. Some preach their virtues and a few express their lives by what they do. That sort was he. Marjorie Geraldine Buchheister was born May 2, 1901, the daughter of Charles Ellhu Bellinger and Emma Lincoln Reese Bellinger at Udall, Kansas, one of nine children born to this marriage. She attended the White City, Kansas high school and Park College at Parkville, Missouri. On June 24, 1928, she was married to to Lawrence E. Buchheister at White City, and to them two children were born. The couple lived for 38 years in Mahaska, Kansas until the moved to Belleville four years ago. Marjorie had taught in high school for five years, one year of which was in Plainville, and at the time of her death she was an active member of the United Presbyterian church of Belleville, and had had served for some years as the Belleville Welcome Hostess. Marjorie died on April 27, 1970, after 68 years, 11 months and 25 days of life, lived to the glory of God and in loving concern for her fellowman. Surviving are her husband, Lawrence E. Buchheister; their son, Max of Rifle, Colorado; and their daughter, Mary Jo, (Mrs. E. L. Humphrey) of Denver, Colorado; and seven grandchildren also one brother, Dr. Willard R. Ora Collins, a former resident of the Codell area, 79, died at a Colorado Springs hospital Friday, April 12. He had been ill the past year. For may years, Mr. and Mrs. Collins a cafe east of Plainville that was very popular for the home-cooked meals served there. Since moving to Colorado Springs in 1958, Mr. and Mrs. Collins have made frequent trips back to Plainville to visit friends and relatives.

Frank Hinkhouse, born in Muscatine, IA, July 28, 1877, departed this life, December 15, 1967 at the age of 90 years, 4 months and 17 days. When a small child he came with his parents, Harmon and Hannah to Kansas and lived in the Palco vicinity until his death. He was united in marriage to Matilda Belisle November 2, 1900. Preceding him in death were a daughter who died in infancy; a son, Milan, born February 28, 1912, died May 13, 1947; five sisters, Anna Morton of Orfino, NE, Mary Downey of Cambridge, NE, Celesta Herron of Franktown, CO, Roxie Rardin and Stella Elliott of Palco, KS; four brothers, Ben and Eddie of Palco, KS, Ray of Hill City, KS, and Roy of Scappoose, WA. Survivors include his widow, Matilda; Florence Hinkhouse, daughter-in-law; a sister, Lottie Coddington, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Lela , 51, were held Sunday at 3:00 p. m. at Brown Funeral Chapel. Lela died Thursday.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, September 10, for Lela Glendening at Brown Mortuary Chapel Pastor Paul Hader officiating. Mrs. Walter Broadie was at the piano with Fellers singing “Rock of Ages” and “How Great Thou Art”.
Casket bearers were Elmer Fox, Oral Bilyeu, Glee Vannaman, Quilford Leslie, Elmo Johnson and Ray Simmons. Interment in Ashland Highland Cemetery Brown Mortuary in charge of the services.
Lela Glendening was born January 10, 1917 at Codell, Kansas. She was the daughter of William W. and Mae Austin Glendening.
Lela attended school in Codell and in 1937 moved to California where she was employed as a factory worker for the next several years.
She came to Meade, about 1945 and had been employed since that time as bookkeeper and housekeeper for Zane.
She moved to Ashland in 1965. Following a lengthy illness, Lela passed from this earthly life on September 7, 1967 at the age of 50 years, seven months and 28 days.
Surviving her are: her father, William Glendening, Stockton, Kansas three half brothers, Emery Ekey Plainville, Kansas, Clarence Ekey, Natoma, Kansas and Ekey, Hays, Kansas. Article provided by Ekey.

Maurice Elmo Teasley, son of Franklin and Minnie Teasley was born January 9, 1913 near Codell, Kansas and departed this live August 16, 1967 at Nampa, Idaho at the age of 54 years, 8 months and 6 days. At an early age he was united with the First Baptist church at Codell, Kansas. Maurice grew to manhood in the Palco community. He received his education in the Palco and Codell schools. He spent 44 months in the service of his country during World War II. He was married on March 3, 1944 to Lela Loreg at Birmingham, Alabama. In 1946 they moved to Nampa, Idaho where he was employed by the Pacific Fruit Express Company until ill health forced him to retire. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Carman’s Union. He is survived by his wife, Lela of the home one brother, of Bellflower, Calif., and a host of relatives and friends. He will be sadly missed by his loved ones.

Owen Jesse Eisiminger, 53, of Waynesburg, RD 3, died suddenly at 1 P.M. Sunday, November 20, 1966, at his home. He was born February 4, 1913, in Whiteley Township to the late Thomas B. and Ella Fox Eisiminger. All of his life was spent in the Waynesburg area. For the past 27 years, he had been employed by the South Penn Telephone Co. He was a World War II veteran having served in Japan with the U.S. Army. He was a member of James Farrell Post 330, American Legion and the Waynesburg VFW Post. Surviving are his wife, Edna Phillips Eisiminger; a daughter Mrs. Rozella Shultz of Waynesburg, two sons, John D. of Plainville, Kansas and Donald L. of Waynesburg and six grandchildren. He was the last of his immediate family, three brothers are deceased. He was affiliated with the Methodist church.

Mrs. Sarah T. Ogee who passed away last week in a nursing home at Wamego, was a woman who enjoyed and appreciated living in Eskridge. Coming to the community with her son, she chose to remain here long after her relatives had left, and only the need for care which was not available here caused her to consent to leaving town. T. Ogee was born August 26, 1868, at Memphis, Tennessee, and passed away in Wamego, Kansas July 12, 1966 at the age of 97 years, 10 months and 16 days. As a small child she moved with her parents to western Kansas (Rooks County) in a covered wagon. She lived in the Eskridge community 31 years and before that she was a resident of Topeka. Mrs. Ogee was of the Baptist faith. She was united in marriage to Henry Ogee in Topeka on July 3, 1885. To this union four children were born., She is preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Myrtle and a son, Willie.
Mrs. Ogee is survived by two sons, E.(O) M. Ogee and Edward H. Ogee of Topeka two half sisters, Mrs. Clara Porterfield of Long Beach, California, and Mrs. Ada Louis of Dallas, Texas, one granddaughter a great granddaughter and a great great granddaughter.
Funeral services were held at the Austin Funeral Home in Eskridge. Rev. Gerald Halberd was the minister. Grace Loveland was organist and Lou Liter was soloist. The songs selected were “Going Down the Valley: and “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”. Casket bearers were Martin, Luther Johnson, Barney Martin, E., A. Peterson, Lucky, and W. R. Logan. Word was received last week of the death of Mrs Vernon (Agnes) Overholser Mrs. Overholser died last Monday evening in Nampa, Idaho, at the age of 69. She was raised in the Palco community and after her marriage lived in Codell and Natoma area before moving to Nampa in 1936.
Survivors include the husband, Vernon one son, four daughters and ten grandchildren. Overholser was a sister-in-law of Mrs. Emery Ekey of Codell, Mrs. V. A. Perkins of Plainville, and Overholser of Salina. Article provided by Doyle Ekey.

William T. Weaverling, former Codell resident, died Friday, May 14 in Ojai, California, at the age of 91 years. Miss Helen M. Amos, 40, of Marietta, Route 1, died Friday morning, May 10, 1963, at 1:30 o’clock in Marietta Memorial Hospital after a long illness. She was born in New Matamoras October 25, 1922, a daughter of Oscar Amos and the late Millie Hall Amos. She spent most of her life in New Matamoras.
In addition to her father she is survived by her step-mother, Stella Amos; one brother, Robert Amos, of Plainville, Kansas, and several aunts and uncles.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at two o’clock, at the Corum Funeral Home, in New Matamoras. Interment was in the New Matamoras Cemetery.

Mary Amelia, daughter of Samuel L. and Harriett J Austen, was born July 3 1877 at Des Moines, Iowa and passed away February 16, 1961 at the home of her son Ekey in Natoma, Kansas Her age at the time of passing was 83 years, seven months and thirteen days.
While in infancy, she moved with her parents to Russell county, Kansas. At the age of 15 years, she accepted Christ as her Saviour and united with the Baptist church, remaining a faithful member during her life time.
She was united in marriage to James F. Ekey at Lucas, Kansas on Feb. 19 1895. To this union were born three sons R. E. Ekey of Hays and Clarence I. and Emery S. Ekey of Natoma. Later she was married to Will Glendening of Codell and to this union were born two children, M. Glendening of Meade, and who passed away in Infancy.
Preceding her in death besides her son were her father and mother, one sister and two brothers. Survivors include her three sons and one daughter, nine grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, one sister Clara Tilton of Collyer, several nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, Feb. 18 from the Codell Baptist church with the Rev. Don Tilley officiating and Pohlman's Funeral Service in Charge. Interment was in the Lucas Cemetery. Article provided by Ekey.

Leonard Arthur Giggey, 59, 403 Sherman, Wichita, died in the St. Francis hospital there Saturday morning, July 16, 1960. He was a maintenance oiler at the Cessna Aircraft Co. Mr. Giggey was born November 19, 1900 in Plainville, Kansas, the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Giggey. He had been a resident of Wichita since going there from Camp Barkley, Texas in 1943. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Methodist Church at Plainville. He was married to Jane Wineland Overholser in Salina, February 4, 1943.
Survivors include his wife of the home in Wichita, one son Kenneth of San Louis Obispo, Calif, his parents Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Giggey of Plainville and one sister Mrs. Wilma Atherson of the home, also his mother-in-law Mrs. Mary Wineland of Natoma, several nieces and nephews. One sister Mrs. Delpha Burrs preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held in Wichita Monday afternoon, July 18 and graveside services and burial were in the Plainville Cemetery Tuesday afternoon, July 19. Pall bearers were Clarence Mayhew, Bernard Hayes, F. a. Burkholder, B. C. Bailey, Leslie Mayhew and Don Wise.

Mrs. W. T. Weaverling Dies Codell Pioneer
Mrs. W. T. Weaverling, 80 died Sunday night at her home near Codell after an illness of several years. A daughter of Rooks county pioneers, she had lived her entire life in the Codell community.
Mrs. Weaverling and her husband observed their 63rd wedding anniversary last march. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a life long member of the Codell Baptist church.
Survivors are her husband, two daughters, Ethel Wise, Codell and Bartels, Ventura, California six sons, Virgil, Wheatridge, Colorado Earl, Ventura, California Willard, Ojai, California, Bert, Olivehurst, California, Santa Ana, California, and Mankato, Kansas two brothers, Emory Winters, Englewood, Colorado, and Willard Winters, Plainville, and two sisters, Mrs. U. S. Green, Plainville and Mrs. Dora Williams, Mesa, Arizona. Also surviving are 30 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Weaverling was predeceased by two sons, Herb and Lester.

Mrs. Addie Robarge, 86, daughter of a pioneer Barron county family, died at a Rice Lake hospital on Friday, March 13, after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held Monday, from St. Joseph's Catholic church with Rev. Arthur Weber officiating and burial was made beside her husband in the church cemetery. Mrs. Robarge was born on Jan. 21, 1873, in Rice Lake. Tulia B. Overholser--Tulia Belle, only child of Alonzo and Elizabeth (Shumard) Edson, was born December 15th, 1872 at Bethany, Mo., and passed away at the Plainville Rural hospital October 9, 1958 at the age of 85 years, 9 months and 23 days. The family pioneered in Kansas when she was quite young, taking a homestead and timber claim 4 miles north of Plainville. The remainder of her lifetime was spent in Rooks county, with the exception of the first winter, when they returned to Bethany because they had not raised an adequate food supply. They came back to Kansas in the spring. In full bloom of young womanhood, she was united in marriage to William A. Drake, on December 25, 1887. Sorrow came early in her life, as her husband was taken by death in August, 1888, seven months before the birth of their baby daughter, Minnie Ellen Her courage and determination to support herself and child brought her in contact with all phases of life. She assisted at births, through illnesses and deaths, serving in any way when needed. On August 20, 1890 , she and W. J. Overholser were joined in holy matrimony, sharing 43 years of life together, overcoming the hardships of early times and enjoying more prosperous years later on. To this union nine children were born, five boys and 4 girls. Six of her children preceded her in death: Jesse, Roy, and another son all dying in infancy and three daughters, Effie, in April 1917 Mrs. Minnie Teasley in February 1920, and Cora Reed in January 1944 Surviving are two sons and two daughters. They are Vernon Overholser of Nampa, Idaho and Verda Simpson, Raymond Overholser, and Lura Ekey, all of this community. Fifteen grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren were a source of great pleasure and enjoyment to her. Soon after her marriage, she accepted Jesus as her saviour, and united with the Codell Baptist church, where she remained member until her death. She served in the primary department of the Sunday school, and was a charter member of the Women’s Missionary Circle. She was also an active member of the Rebekah lodge at Codell. Following the death of her husband in February, 1934, she continued to live on the farm until May, 1950, at which time she moved to Plainville and maintained her own home until February of this year. Because of failing health, she was cared for in the homes of her children until she was admitted to the hospital May 14, following a hip fracture, the complications causing her death after five months of hospitalization. Idleness had no place in Mrs. Overholser’s life. She spent hours quilting and doing other fine needlework. She loved Nature and enjoyed traveling, but was most happy when serving her family and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, October 11 in the Codell Baptist church with the Rev. Charles Priddy in charge. Grandsons serving as pallbearers were Elwyn Teasley, Denzell Ekey, Eldon Reed and Edwin, and Allen Simpson. Music was furnished by H. O. Darland, Karen Houser, and Rodney Hockett accompanied by Mrs. Howard Hockett at the piano. Burial was in the family plot in Shiloh cemetery.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Mosher Funeral Home.

After 27 Aug 1958 Rooks County Record Everett Van Horn Died in Kansas City
Word came to Stockton Wednesday afternoon of the death of Everett Van Horn which had occurred at the Kansas University Medical Center, shortly after noon. His many friends were saddened but not surprised as it had been known for the past ten days that he was suffering from an incurable disease with death imminent. Everett, who was 54 years of age, had seemingly been in good health until about six weeks ago when a back condition sent him to the hospital. After surgery, he seemed to be recovering when it was discovered that is condition was critical. Everett had spent most of his life in this community and his never failing food humor and many helpful acts extended to friends and acquaintances had made him popular with young and old. At the time of his illness, Everett was serving as night watchman for the city and at one time he had been one of the county's best sheriffs.
Survivors include his wife, a daughter, Wanda Sammons of Concordia, and a son, Farrell, of Independence, Mo. He also leaves several grandchildren, two half-brothers, Ralph Reeder and Ray Reeder and a half-sister, Myrtle Reeder. His brother, Forrest Van Horn, died only two months ago and a half sister, Minnie Hazen, also preceded him in death.

After 27 Aug 1958 unknown paper Everett Van Horn Dies, Policeman at Stockton
Everett D. Van Horn, 54, a member of the Stockton police department the past six years and a former Rooks county sheriff died Wednesday at the K. U. Medical Center, Kansas City, after a short illness. He was a prominent member of the Stockton community and leaves many friends and associates to morn his passing.
Surviving are his wife, Vivian, of the home one son, Farrel, of Independence, Mo., and a daughter, Mrs. Wanda Sammons, of Concordia. There are three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Smith Memorial chapel in Stockton. The Clifford Hauxwell of the Christian church will officiate. Burial will in the Stockton Cemetery.

Everett D. Van Horn, son of and Lulu Van Horn, was born in Greenfield Township in Rooks County, Kansas on march 8, 1904, and passed away at the Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, on August 27, 1958. His age at the time of his death was 54 years, 5 months and 19 days.
He received his education in a rural elementary school and the Stockton high school. He became a Christian shortly before his marriage to Miss Vivian Elizabeth Foster on June 14, 1925. To this union, one daughter, Wanda Mae, and a son, were born.
Except for 1 1/2 years in California and 1 1/2 years in Michigan, Everett lived his entire lifetime in or near Stockton. He was engaged in farming until 1941 when he was elected sheriff of Rooks County. He served in this capacity until 1945 when he was employed by Eckart's Home & Auto Supply, where he worked for 7 years. In September, 1952, he became Assistant Chief of Police of Stockton. He served faithfully in this office until the time of his death.
Preceding him in death were his parents one brother, Forrest and two half-sisters, Alpha Stanley, and Minnie Hazen.
Those who remain to mourn his passing include his wife, Vivian one daughter, Mrs. Dee Sammon of Concordia his son, Farrell, of Independence, Mo. two half-brothers, Reeder of Plainville, and Ray Reeder, of Naponee, Neb. two half-sisters, Waterman, of Northville, South Dakota, and Myrtle M. Reeder, of Los Angeles, Calif. three grandchildren, Judy, Patty, and Van Sammons, of Concordia and a great number of other relative and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Smith Memorial Chapel, with Clifford Hauxwell, presiding, and burial was in the Stockton Cemetery with the Stockton Odd Fellows Lodge presiding..

Sarah Lucinda Altman (H029, by G007) was born 28 Mar 1870 near Sigourney, Keokuk Co., IA. Sarah came from Iowa to Phillips Co., Kansas with her family in 1885.
Sarah married Milton Koons on 17 June 1888 near Kirwin, Phillips Co., KS. Milton was born 22 Aug 1865 in Louisa Co., near Conesville and Gladwin, Muscatine Co., IA, the son of Alfred Koons and Matilda Glaspy. Milton moved with his father to Kirwin, Phillips Co., Kansas in 1873, after his mother had died.
Milton was previously married to Arawilda Maternahrer [or Untermaker] on 23 May 1885 at Phillipsburg, Phillips Co., KS. Arawilda was born in 1866/7. She may have died of pneumonia.
On 23 July 1887 Milton’s father, Alfred, deeded him 40 acres (in E½, SE¼, 2-5-17) in Bow Creek Township, Phillips Co., KS. In 1900 Milton lived in Bow Creek Township, Phillips County, KS; living with him were his father Alfred and brother George. In 1910 Milton lived in Rooks County with his wife and all eleven children. In 1920 Milton lived in Phillips County, KS; at home were his wife and children Elmer, Samuel, George, Jesse, Arizona, and Orville. He moved to Woodston, KS is 1933.
Milton died after a seven months illness on 3 July 1948 in Woodston, Rooks Co., KS. His death certificate lists the cause as "drowned in a rain water barrel," by "suicide." The local newspaper suggested, "He had been in the habit of dipping water from the barrel, and he was quite lame, he may have fallen or he may have become dizzy as he stooped over." He was buried in Bow Creek Cemetery, Bow Creek Twp., Phillips Co., KS.
Sarah died 23 July 1958 at the hospital in Plainville, KS and was buried in Bow Creek Cemetery, Phillips County. See Kenneth Frank Doig's Home Page.

June 12, 1958 unknown paper F. B. Van Horn Dies Suddenly
The sudden death of F. B. (Frosty) Van Horn Friday evening at about 9:30 at Hunter, came as a shock to the entire community as well as to his immediate family. His death was attributed to a heart attack, suffered while at work for the Big Chief Construction Co. of Hutchinson, as he was assisting with the erection of Quonset grain storage bins. He was pronounced dead on arrival of a physician. was 55 years of age and had lived all his life in this community, where he was born, with the exception of about four years spent in Detroit, Mich. For many years, he was the bulk agent for the Co Op Oil Co. in Stockton and made many friends over a wide area during that period. He was of an inventive nature and perfected a piece of spraying equipment which was in wide use in this area. People liked Frosty and his death will be keenly felt. Surviving are: his wife, Veda one son, Dale of San Carlos, Calif. three daughters, Dorothea Riffel of Minneapolis, Minn., Joan Owens of Windsor, Mo., and Korb of Stockton a brother of Stockton two half-sisters, Blanche Waterman of Northville, S. D. and Reeder of Los Angeles, Calif. two half-brothers, Ralph Reeder of Plainville, and Ray Reeder of Naponee, Neb. also several grandchildren. In Memoriam: Dwight Hazen, son of Ira and Minnie Reed Hazen, was born November 29, 1908 in Stockton, Kansas and died October 22, 1957, in Kansas City, Mo. He grew up in Stockton where he was graduated from high school and later operated a filling station. He moved to Plainville in 1930 to take over work as a jobber for Phillips Petroleum Company. On November 9, 1932, he was united in marriage to Johanna Westhusin. To this union two children were born, Patricia Joan and Donald Dwight. For the past seventeen yeas he owned and operated the Hazen Oil Company. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and a director of the Rooks County Savings Association. He liked people and had a rare faculty for making friends where ever he went. He was predeceased by his mother. In addition to his wife, daughter and son, he is survived by his father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Hazen of Stockton, one brother, Duane, also of Stockton and three sisters, Mrs. Ward Hayes of Palco, Mrs. Les Headley of Salina, and Mary Ruth Young, a civil service employee in Korea. Funeral services were held Friday morning in Sacred Heart church with the Rev. John Moeder officiating. Pallbearers were Bert Taylor, Howard Mayhew, Donovan Williams, Forrest J. Westhusin, Harry Moos and Alvin Schrandt. Interment was in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Arrangements were in charge of the Mosher Funeral Home.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 17, 1956 at lola Evangelical United Brethren church for Rev. C. L Heatherington, former pastor here, who passed away at his home in lola on November l4. Ministers conducting the services were Dr. Earl R. Ford, Dr. Donavan W. Smith, Rev Lyle B. Rose, and Rev. Merwin R. Kurtz. Mrs. J. W. Ireland, Weldon Douglas, Charles Kellogg, and a male quartet of lola sang selections for the memorial services. Internment was made at the Highland Cemetery at Iola.
Clarence Linder Heatherington, second in a family of six children, was born to Henry and Mattie Heatherington on August 20, 1883 at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, and passed to his eternal reward last Wednesday evening, November 14, 1956, having reached the age of 73 years. After completing elementary and secondary schools of education he enrolled as a student in our denominational church school, Campbell college, at Holton, Kansas. Rev. Heatherington's home church, in the days of his youth, was the Prairie Gem church located between Norton and Lenora, Kansas. He was converted to the Christian Faith under the ministry of Dr. C. 0. Main. He was himself soon called to preach the Gospel of our Lord as his life work. The Athol church granted him a Quarterly Conference License to preach in the year 1920. His Annual Conference License was granted in 1921, and in the year 1924 he was ordained as an Elder in the Active Itinerancy of our church at the Annual Conference Session held at Concordia, Kansas, with Bishop C. J. Kephart officiating.
On April 29 ,1915, Mr. Heatherington was united in marriage with Nora Beulah Scott, of Athol Kansas. To this union were born five children: Regina, Scott, Eugene and Morris, and a son who died in infancy.
Rev. Heatherington began his ministry in Woodston, Kansas on January 20 where he served for a period of six years. Subsequent pastorates in his continuing ministry were the following: McCracken, 2 years; Lawrence, 7 years; Iola, 9 years; Mullinville, 5 years; and Maize, 1 year. At the Annual conference held last May, 1956, at Wichita, he took Retired Relations from the active ministry, moving to Iola to make his home at 305 W. Jackson. Due to a shortage ministers he has been serving at Jeddo and the Golden Valley churches during the present year. During the course of his ministry in the conference, Rev. Heatherington has served in a number of capacities as leader and promoter in Kingdom programs. Among such are the following: in 1920, president of the conference Laymen's Movement; from 1922 to 1924, president of Christian Endeavor in the conference; from 1946 to 1050: Executive Secretary of Evangelism work in the conference; a number of years as District Leader and Director; for 22 years he was a member of the Conference Male Quartet, singing the tenor; he was a strong exponent of the Visitation Program of Evangelism, helping as Guest Leader in a number of local churches over the conference, and also was a real enthusiast for the God's Acres program in the rural areas. While serving the Mullinville church, he led in the construction of a fine church edifice, valued at $140,000.00, using in part, the God's Acre Plan for financing the project. This building stands today as one of the crowning acts of his long and faithful ministry in the service of the One who he loved and whom he served so well across the years. But more than that, he will be remembered and respected by the large number of souls which he won and lead to Christ and into fellowship of the church which he loved deeply. Mr. Heatherington was a splendid churchman, a real gentleman, a faithful minister of Christ, a loving husband and father and grandfather, a true friend, and as one of God's under-shepherds, held in high esteem in the hearts of those who followed his able leadership.
Among those who survive him are the following relatives: his wife of the home in Iola; his four children, Regina of Greensburg, Kansas, Scott of Medford, Oregon, Eugene of Seattle Washington, Morris of Wichita, Kansas; one brother, Omar, of Riverton, Wyoming; two sisters, Mrs. Roy McAllister, Clayton, Kansas and Mrs. S. H. Cramer, Rawlins, Wyoming; ten grand-children; other relatives and a host of friends.

HOMER DOUGHTY DIES SUDDENLY
This community was saddened and shocked last Thursday when word came of the sudden death of Homer Doughty, which occurred about ten miles from Logan (Phillips Co., KS) on a country road. His death was the result of a heart attack which he suffered while driving a truck for the Stockton Granite Works. Harry Griffin, manager of the business, was following behind the truck in his station wagon. He noticed the truck was weaving and speeded up to see what was the matter, but the other vehicle took to the ditch before Harry reached it, and Homer was dead when first examined. He was 56 yrs. of age and spent his entire life in Rooks County (KS). He was a graduate of the first class of the Webster High School and a veteran of World War I. For many years Homer lived on a farm which was acquired a few years ago for the Webster dam project. He then moved to a farm northwest of Stockton (Rooks Co., KS) He was a good citizen in every way and was active in many phases of community life which were for the betterment of the people.
Surviving are his wife, Sarah, and three step-daughters and their families.
Funeral services were held at the Smith Memorial Chapel in Stockton Monday afternoon and were conducted by Rev. Glen Palmer of Stockton and Rev. F. M. Bishop of Woodston (Rooks Co., KS). Burial was in the Webster addition of the Stockton Cemetery. Submitted by Carol Lee Smith .

Sherman Carley, 86, a pioneer of the Codell and Natoma communities and a resident of Hays for eight, died late Thursday afternoon after having been in failing health for a number of years.
Surviving are the widow and five children: Mrs. Cora Hoagland of Hays; Mrs. Violet Simon of Longmont, Colo.; Mrs. Nellie Simon of Studley; Raymond Carley of Clay Center, Nebraska, and Guy Carley of Jennings, Kansas.
Funeral services will be Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Baptist church and there will be Masonic graveside services at Mount Allen cemetery. The body will be at the Morford chapel until the funeral hour.
Mr. Carley had been a farmer all his life until his retirement because of failing health ten years ago. Previous to his coming to Western Kansas from Pottawattamie county forty-five years ago Mr. Carley had been a builder of bridges, many of which are still in use today. For many years he was township trustee and a member of the school board at Codell.
There are 65 living children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, there having been but one death in the Carley family.

FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FOR SHERMAN CARLEY
Funeral services were Sunday afternoon in the Hays First Baptist Church for Sherman Carley, 86, a pioneer of the Codell and Natoma communities. Pallbearers, all grandsons, were Roger Carley, Jim Carley, Edwin Simon, Delmer Simon, Virgil Simon, Dwaine Perkins, Lonnie Perkins, James Perkins and David Perkins. The Natoma Masonic lodge conducted graveside services in Mount Allen cemetery. Mr. Carley died Thursday afternoon following a long illness.

SHERMAN CARLEY
Sherman Carley, son of Thomas Carley and Rachel White Carley was born in Grant County, Wisconsin August 22, 1868 and passed away at Hays, Kansas September 23, 1954 at 6:00 p. m. He had been failing this summer, entered the Hadley hospital August 20, he was operated on and had cancer which he suffered severely. He was a patient sufferer. His hand in God's meant much to him in his illness, his prayer was to pass on from such pain which God heard and answered. He quietly passed on to be with the Lord at his home.
He is the last of a family of four brothers, one sister, eight half brothers and sisters. His father passed away when Sherm was young. His mother lived to be past 99 years of age. He began working his own way at the age of nine herding sheep and going to school. He was married to Anna Elizabeth Henry February 15, 1893. They worked together for 61 years. They made their home in Pottawattamie county, Kansas until 1910. He came to Rooks county to regain his health where they farmed near Codell and Natoma until 72 years old when he lost his health. They grew up with Kansas, helping build bridges in Pottawattamie county, operated and owned a horse power thresher for several years. He weathered depression, trials, tornadoes, material disappointments with a spirit of thankfulness and a determination to go ahead. He was active in his community on township boards, school boards for 21 years, church treasurer,(rest of obituary missing)

SHERMAN CARLEY RITES IN HAYS SUNDAY
Sherman Carley, 86, a pioneer of the Codell and Natoma communities, passed away Thursday in Hays after a long illness. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Baptist church in Hays and graveside services were conducted by the Codell Masonic lodge.
Mr. Carley is survived by his widow, three daughters and two sons, Mrs. Cora Hoagland of Hays, Mrs. Nellie Simon of Studley, Mrs. Violet Simon of Longmont, Colorado, Guy of Jennings and Richmond of Clay Center, Nebraska.

Mrs. C. W. Bowland of Knobnoster, Mo., is a guest at the home of her sister, Mrs. Glenn Gill and family and her brother Lee Carley and family. Mrs. Bowland attended the funeral other uncle, Sherman Carley on Sunday, and will attend the funeral of Emil Mickelson Thursday at Ellis. (Note: were parents of Cora Carley Hoagland. Nell Auld was born February 25, 1885 to William and Susan Auld, at Codell, Kansas. A heart attack claimed her life early Tuesday morning, February 17, (1953) at her home in Luray. On October 3, 1918 she was united in marriage to Dave Tate of Luray, where they have since continuously made their home. She had served as cook in the Joy Cafe for several years. Mr. and Mrs. Tate leased the cafe for a time, later purchasing it and operating until August of last year when ill health of Mrs. Tate forced them to retire from the business. Mrs. Tate is survived by her husband, Dave Tate, and two children by a former marriage to Walter Chrisler, Dana Chrisler of Natoma and Mrs. Mary Cherry of Luray. One brother, George Auld of Urbana, Illinois; one grandson, Lyle Cherry; three cousins, Everett Lamb, Mrs. Ethel Nelson and Mrs. Lottie Rolfe, all of Codell. Her parents and two sisters and two brothers preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the Methodist church in Luray with the pastor, Rev. George Norcross conducting the rites. Burial will be in the Luray Cemetery.

After 24 April 1952 unknown paper William Alexander Barry was born in Noble County, Ohio, October 27, 1859. He was the seventh of eight children born to the union of ROBERT BARRY and STEWARD. ROBERT BARRY served with the Union Army during the Civil War and the family responsibility was left with the mother and her small children. Many were the hardships suffered by this family as they tried to make a living on a small Ohio farm, without the help of father and husband. The family moved from Ohio to Indiana, then to Iowa in 1877. Later, the family followed the westward movement and moved to Downs, Kansas in 1884, where W. A. BARRY became associated in business with his brothers, and GEORGE. Most of the descendants of JACOB BARRY reside in the vicinity of Downs, Kansas.
On January 2, 1902, W. A. BARRY of Downs, Kansas, and JANE KING of Turkville, Kansas, were united in marriage. They established their home in Downs where a son, WILLIAM EARL, was born. Subsequently, they moved to Turkville and later to Codell, where a daughter, ELIZABETH was born. For 25 years, MR. operated a hardware store in Codell and the family occupied a prominent place in the life of the community.
MRS. BARRY passed away on April 19, 1936. MR. BARRY continued his business for eight years and then sold his Codell property on May 24, 1944. After 33 years in business in Codell he went to live with his daughter, FLORENCE, for a few years. On June 1, 1947, he moved to the Baptist Sunset Home in Concordia, Kansas, where he lived comfortably and happily until his passing on April 24, 1952, at the age of 92 years, 5 months, and 27 days.
During his active years, W. A. BARRY was a farmer, blacksmith, carpenter, and hardware merchant. He characterized his business with honesty, integrity, fair dealing and willingness to serve his fellowman. His personal life was consistent with the highest Christian ideals. Throughout his life he was a diligent and conscientious church worker.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the Codell Baptist Church. Interment was in Mt. Allen cemetery at Hays with Mosher Bros. In charge of arrangements.

JOHN N. BALES OF ZION DIES
ZION--John Nathan Bales, 62 of 2141 Sheridan Rd., Zion mail and express agent for more than 30 years and a prominent member of the Passion play cast, died early today in his home after a brief illness. Mr. Bales was agent for American Railway Express Co. since he came to Zion in 1945, when he took over the depot mail hauling contract. He was a deacon in the Christian Catholic church. In the Passion play, he was "Joseph, a converted Sanhedrin." As Joseph in the play, he objected to the trial of Christ, speaking the famous lines as he left the stage, "My skirts are clean."
Born in Woodston, Kan., Mar 12, 1888, Mr. Bales came to Zion from Carlsbad, N. M. He had worked as an agent for the Santa Fe railroad in Carlsbad for 11 years. He was married in Clovis, NM. in 1910, to the former Bessie T. Farner. She survives him. Also surviving are a son, Philip Bales of Zion; three daughters, Mrs. Guinevere Armstrong, Alhambra, Calif., and Mrs. Natalie Leech and Miss Beverley Bales, both of Zion; three brothers, Otto Bales of Clovis, NM, Everett Bales of Harington, Kan., and Murl Bales of Fowler, Colo., and 11 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 P.M. in the chapel 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion. The Rev. Carl Lee and Elder Anton Koshel will conduct services. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel after 3 P.M. tomorrow.

MR. J. N. BALES PASSES ON;
FUNERAL SERVICES TOMORROW

Mr. J. Nathan (Nate) Bales, residing with his family at 2141 Sheridan Road, passed on at 12:40 A.M. yesterday at his home. Mr. Bales was born March 12, 1888, at Woodston, Kansas. The family moved to Zion 32 years ago, from Carlsbad, N. M., where he worked for the Santa Fe Railroad. After holding two smaller jobs here, he finally became affiliated in November of 1922, with the late J. H. Paxton as assistant to him in the American Express Co., which later became the Railway Express Agency. Mr. Bales, who had become the local agent of the above company, retired from same in May of 1945.
Beside the Express job Mr. Bales had the Post Office contract of meeting night and day trains with the out-going and in-coming mail from 1943 to December 14, 1948, and also before 1933.
He was ordained a Deacon in the Christian Catholic Church, July 18 1926.
The deceased is survived by his wife, Bessie and four children: Mrs. E. W. (Guinevere) Armstrong, who lately moved to San Gabriel, Calif.; Mrs. Ray (Natalie) Leech; Philip N. Bales, and Miss Beverly Bales. And three brothers: Otto of Clovis, N. M., who is older then Mr. Bales; Everett of Herrington, Kans.; and Merrill of Fowler, Colo.
The funeral service will be Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Congdon Funeral Home. The body will be at rest at the Funeral Home this afternoon and evening.

Sallie Luella Reeder, the daughter of Jacob S. and Harriett Applegate Reeder, was born Nov. 29,1866, at Warrenton, Mo., and departed this life on April 17, 1950, at her home in Stockton, at the age of 83 years, 4 months and 21 days. Her home was in Missouri until the age of 12, when her parents came to Kansas, homesteading on Elm Creek in 1878. On February 25, 1883, she was united in marriage to Abraham Schindler, and they made their home in the Elm Creek community, To that union 6 daughters and 2 sons were born Hattie, Pearl, and Ray. The family made its home on the farm until 1920, when they moved to Stockton. As a young woman she was baptized into Christ and became a member of the Elm Creek church. In 1921 she became a member of the Main Street Christian church in Stockton and was faithful in serving her Lord as long as she was able. She also was a member of the Women's Christian Temperance Union. Preceding her death besides her parents were her husband, one daughter, Hattie, one sister Addie Fealey, and four brothers, Tom, and Hud. Surviving her are her nine children: Mrs. Leslie Wells, Mrs. Dan Sanders, Mrs. Charles Sanders, Mrs. Paul McNitt, Henry Schindler, and Ray Schindler, of Stockton Mrs. Clyde Farris and Mrs. Ray Elshire of Grand Island, Nebraska and A. D. Stevens of Bend Oregon. There are also 21 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, ___ great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
I am leaving home and children, All on earth I hold most dear I have heard the Boatman calling--" I am waiting,, I do not fear." I have tried to do my duty, I have done the best I know In the path that they should go, I have tried to help a neighbor. I have tried and kept on trying, Until my life did end, I shall meet with other loved ones, who have gone their way before. They will welcome me so gladly, to that happy, peaceful land Father, mother, sister, brother, waiting for me hand in hand.
Funeral services were held in the Christian church in Stockton on April 20, at 2 o'clock, with Rev. Robert Ball officiating. A quartette Mrs. Alva Robinson, and Mrs. Lee Robinson, and McCauley, accompanied by Mrs. Caroline Albright, sang " Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and " Sometime We'll Understand." Pallbearers were E. E. Fisher, Forrest Stamper, Albert Cadoret, Everrett Vanhorn, Albert McC____, and Ralph Reeder. Interment was at the Stockton Cemetery. (Article provided by Brenda Reeder)

Kate Jackson Dies, Services To Be Held In Hill City Tomorrow Morning. Mrs. Katie M. Jackson, 81, died at her winter home in Los Angeles, California, April 15, after several months of illness. Funeral Services will be held at the Cutting Funeral Home in Hill City Friday morning, April 21, at 10 o'clock. John Seibenlist of Hastings, Nebraska will conduct the services and interment will be in the Hill City cemetery. Katie May Allen, daughter of Robert and Anna (Higgins) Allen, was born January 21, 1869, near Yates City, Illinois and departed this life at her home in Los Angeles, California, April 15, 1950, at the age of 81 years, two months, and 25 days. She came to Graham County, Kansas, with her parents, four sisters, and one brother in March 1884. They homesteaded on Bow Creek seventeen miles northwest of Hill City, where Katie grew to womanhood. She attended Normal in Hill City and became one of Graham County's successful teachers. On September 1, 1901, she was united in marriage with Robert Levi Jackson of Palco, Kansas. After farming for a number of years, they moved to Hill City where they established the Ford Motor Agency in 1913. Though Mr. and Mrs. Jackson had no children of their own they took a cousin of, Mr. Jackson's in to their home, (Faith Jackson) and cared for her until her death in 1908. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three sisters and one brother but leaves to mourn their loss one sister, Mrs. J. W. Kline of Quenemo, Kansas, one brother, R. G. Allen, of Hill City, Kansas, six nieces; seven nephews, and a host of friends and neighbors in Los Angeles as well as Hill City. Although she had spent a large part of her time in recent years in Los Angeles where she had purchased a home, she always considered Hill City her home town, and was devoted to her many friends here. Mrs. Jackson was a wonderful neighbor and friend and will be greatly missed in our community.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon for Frank Teasley, former Rooks county resident. His body was brought here for burial from his home in Wilmot, South Dakota, where he died after a short illness. Mr. Teasley was well known in Rooks county, having lived in the Codell community and also near Palco before moving to South Dakota.

James Franklin Teasley
James Franklin Teasley was born March 10, 1881 near Glasco, Kansas and Passed away December 31, 1949 at Milbank, South Dakota, at the age of 68 years, 9 months and 21 days, of a heart attack. His illness was of short duration. He was united in marriage to Minnie Ellen Drake on August 7, 1911, who preceded him in death, Feb. 20, 1920. To this union two sons were born. In 1926 he was united in marriage to Nada Owings who also preceded him in death in 1934. He leaves to morn his death, two sons, E. Teasley of Nampa, Idaho, and Verlin D. Teasley of Seattle, Wash. Three grandchildren of Seattle, Wash. one sister, Grout of Denver, Colo. one Brother, Teasley, of Natoma, Kans. a number of other relatives and a host of friends, both here in this community and in Wilmot, South Dakota. He will be remembered by those who knew him as a jolly person, with an optimistic attitude who tried to leave a bit of good cheer wherever he went. Before leaving Kansas he was a member of Church of God, west of Palco, Kansas. In South Dakota he attended the Presbyterian church of Wilmot. Funerals services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Mosher Funeral Home with Rev. B. A. Hartnett of the Plainville Nazarene church officiating and burial was made in Shiloh cemetery east of Plainville. Article provided by Ekey.
