Funeral services for former
Seminole resident, Opal L. Purdum are scheduled for Monday, Sept. 8 at 10 a.m.
at the Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Neff officiating.
Local graveside services will be at Little Cemetery under the direction of
Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m.-8 p.m.
Sunday at the Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home.
She died Sept, 4, 2003, at
the age of 87 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kan.
She was born March 24,
1916, in Cleveland to Cort and Elsie (Rainbolt) Smith. She attended Bowlegs High
School and Tulsa Business College. She later received her certificate as a
certified professional secretary. She married Harry C. Purdum Jr. on Nov. 28,
1937, in Seminole. He passed away on April 11. 1996. She worked for Firestone
Tire and Rubber Co. in Wichita, Kan. as a secretary for the district manager for
eight years. She then worked for Boeing Aircraft Company, Wichita, Kan. as a
secretary to the plant manager for 12 years. She had lived in Park Hill,
Wichita, Kan., Oklahoma City, Holdenville and Seminole. She was a member of
Wally Byam Caravan Club of the Oklahoma Green Country Unit where she served as
secretary, treasurer and president. She was also a member of the Main Street
Christian Church in Stockton, Kan. She liked traveling, handcrafts, sewing and
spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Harry C.
Purdum III of Stockton, Kan.; one brother, Clarence R. Smith of Tempe, Ariz.,
three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by
her parents, her husband and an infant brother, Conrad Smith.
Memorial
contributions may be made to the Main Street Christian Church in Stockton, Kan.
and may be sent in care of the funeral home.

Rita Strutton, Woodston, KS and Annette Strickland, Bloomington, NE; three
brothers: Earl and Paul both of Grand Junction, CO and James of Casper, WY; two
sisters: Sarah Crispin, Boulder, CO and Anna Mae Porter, Cheyenne, WY.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2003, at Long

Eldon Ray Reed, 76, of Great Bend, died Dec. 26
at Via Christi Regional Medical Center St. Francis Campus in Wichita. He was
born March 26, 1927, at Topeka, and was the adoptive son of Amos and Cora
Overholser Reed. He married Betty Loreg Oct. 22, 1946, at Great Bend. He then
married Joyce Oberle Feemster, Dec. 9, 1983, at Great Bend. A resident of Barton
County for many years, coming from Plainville, he was a production manager and
superintendent for Bankoff Oil of Tulsa, Okla. Reed was a 32nd degree Mason,
Isis Shrine Temple. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Don Reed
of Great Bend and Bruce Reed of Anacortes, Wash.; four step-sons, Sam Feemster
and Frank Feemster, both of Ellinwood, Ronald Feemster of San Diego, Calif., and
Richard Feemster of Dodge City; 18 grandchildren and step-grandchildren; and 18
great-grandchidren and step-greatgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by
one step-daughter, Renee Marie Galyardt; and one grand-daughter, Tracy Reed.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bryant Funeral Home of Great Bend with the
Rev. Doyle Smith officiating. Burial will be at Lakin-Comanche Funeral Home in
Ellinwood with Masonic Committal Rites. Memorials are suggested to Kidney

DAWSON SPRINGS, Ky. –– Clyta “Bugs” Boucher, 79, of Dawson Springs, died
Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, at Caldwell County Hospital in Princeton, Ky. She was
born Dec. 20, 1924, in Hopkins County, Ky., to the late Clyde V. Wyatt and
Olivia Matilda Hauptman Wyatt. She was of Holiness faith and a retired dietary
supervisor at New Dawson Springs Nursing Home, where she worked for 20 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill
Boucher; one son, Tim Wyatt; and three sisters.
She is survived by one
daughter, Judy Ann Boucher Groves of Princeton; one stepdaughter, Deloris
Steeley of Dawson Springs; one stepson, Kenneth Boucher of Edinberg, Ind.; one
brother, Clyde V. Wyatt Jr. of Codell, Kan.; several grandchildren; and several
great-grandchildren.
There will be no funeral services or memorial services.
There will be no visitation.

Lourie Darland Marshall
Lourie Darland Marshall, of 372 Skyline Drive, North
Little Rock, Arkansas, the wife of the late Terrell Marshall, died Monday,
December 29, 2003. She was the daughter of the late Anna and Frank Darland, and
was born in Plainville, Kansas. She moved to Boulder, Colorado at an early age,
and attended public schools in Boulder. She also attended St. Luke's Hospital
School of Nursing in Denver, Colorado. She married Terrell Marshall, and has
resided in Little Rock and North Little Rock since 1928. She served as Secretary
and President of the Highway Beautiful Garden Club, and as Secretary of the
State Federation of Garden Clubs and the Wake Robin Garden Club. She was a
member of the First Christian Church of Plainville, Kansas.
One son, Dr.
Terrell Marshall, Jr. of Roslyn, Pennsylvania, a sister Norma McCaffney of
Boulder, Colorado, and a brother Homer Darland of Mesa, Arizona, 5 grandchildren
and 4 great-grandchildren survive her.
There will be a graveside funeral;
service Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery. Arrangements are under the
direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

Rome, 92, Victoria, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Fidelis Church, Victoria.
Burial will be in St. Fidelis Cemetery.
Mr. Rome Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003, at
Ellis Good Samaritan Center, Victoria. He was born Oct. 25, 1911, in rural
Victoria, the son of John M. and Catherine (Sander) Rome Mr. Rome was a farmer.
He also was the former owner of Rich Rome Garage, Victoria. He was a member of
St. Fidelis Church.
He married Laurinda Staab on Nov. 7, 1939, in Victoria.
She died January 11, 2000. A son, Kenneth Joseph and a daughter, Mary Elizabeth
Rome, also died earlier.
Survivors include two sons, Hutchinson, and William,
McPherson two daughters, Verma Sommer Lawrence, and Rose Ann Pfannenstiel, Hays
two sisters, Schmidt, Plainville, and Betty Leikam, Hays twelve grandchildren
three step grandchildren 14 great-grandchildren and five step
great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9
a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Brock's North Hill Chapel, Hays. There will be a
parish vigil service at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
The family

former Palco resident, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, in Oklahoma City. He was born
Nov. 12, 1910, in Columbia, Mo. He married Ruth Miller on July 6, 1935, in
Palco; she died June 10, 2002. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a custom home
contractor.
Survivors include a son, Charles, Oklahoma City; a sister, Dolly
Seward, Phoenix; and two grandsons.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at

She was a homemaker.

Dibble, 82, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, at Osborne Hospital, Osborne. He was
born Oct. 25, 1921, near Alton to Arthur and Euphamie (Brittain) Dibble. He was
a 1939 graduate of Woodston High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War
II. He married Dorothy Glodfelty on Dec. 15, 1943. He was a farmer.
Survivors

She married Kenneth L.
McLaughlin on Oct 4, 1936 in Phillipsburg. He died Feb. 10, 1998. She was a
homemaker.

HAYS KS Russell W. “Rusty” Collins, 59, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at
Hays Medical Center.
He was born May 13, 1944, in Little River to B. and
Connie (Hafenstine) Collins. He attended Plainville High School and was a
graduate of Codell High School. He was a U. S. Naval veteran of the Vietnam War.
He married Carol Resley on Sept. 28, 1963, in Russell. He later married Sabrina
Goodenough on Oct. 18, 1993, in Las Vegas.
He was co-owner of Collins and
Collins Oil Company. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited and the U. S Golf
Association.
Survivors include his wife, of the home a son, Shane and his
wife, Angie Lincoln, Neb. and by a granddaughter, Kylie Shea Collins, Lincoln.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, Hays
graveside services at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lyons Municipal Cemetery, Lyons, with
graveside military honors by Fort Riley Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from
3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Brock's North Hill Chapel Funeral Home, 2509 Vine, and
from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the church.

educational fund for his granddaughter.

28, 2003, at Hays Medical Center.
He was born July 16, 1930, in Codell to
Forrest and Lois (Hockett) Richmond.
He graduated from Codell High School in
1948. He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He married Della Mae
Pooley on Dec. 29, 1954, in Plainville.
He was an oil-field worker, retiring
in 1992.
Survivors include his wife, of the home a son, Kelly, Codell two
daughters, Reesa Harris, Topeka, and Leesa Lawson, Natoma a brother, Plainville
a sister, Pauline Smythe Plainville 14 grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Cale.

will be at 2 p.m. today at the Presbyterian Church, Natoma.

Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.
He was born Oct.
20, 1934, in Rooks County to and Edith (Kleinschmidt) Lovin. He married Elda
Lemon on March 18, 1961, in Phillipsburg. He graduated from Plainville High
School and was a U. S. Army veteran.
He was a trucker and operated a used
furniture store.
Survivors include his wife, of the home a daughter, Janis
Marcotte, Leoti a son, Casper, Wyo. and six grandchildren.
Services will be
at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Plainville Christian Church burial in Plainville
Cemetery.
Visitation is until 8 p.m. today at Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel

Opal VanLoenen, 75, Beatrice, Nebraska, died
Thursday, November 20, 2003 at the Beatrice Community Hospital. She was born
October 7, 1928 at Plainville, Kansas. She attended Norton Public School,
Norton, Kansas. She married Harold VanLoenen on December 26, 1946 at Plainville,
Kansas. In 1950 they moved to Ellis, Nebraska. She worked at the Ellis Elevator
as a bookkeeper. She enjoyed fishing, reading, playing cards and gardening,
especially tomatoes.
SURVIVORS: Husband: Harold VanLoenen of Ellis, Nebraska;
Sons: Ed VanLoenen and wife, Jeanne, of Fairbury, Nebraska, Charles VanLoenen of
Beatrice, Nebraska; Daughter: Glo Daubendiek and husband, Rich, of Holmesville,
Nebraska; 4 grandchildren: Kevin VanLoenen and wife, Michelle, of Hannibal,
Missouri, Valerie Erickson and husband, Jim, of Independence, Missouri; Amanda
and Jenna Daubendiek both of Holmesville, Nebraska; 4 Great Grandchildren: Dirk

Roberts, 87, former WaKeeney resident, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003, at St.
John's Nursing Home. She was born May 17, 1916, in Zurich to Walter and Agnes
(Couture) Gish. She married Albert Roberts on Feb. 10, 1942, in Kansas City,
Mo.; he died June 8, 1977. She graduated from Palco High School in 1934, earned
a teaching certificate and graduated from beauty school. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Stephen, Oakley, and Dave, Parker (article cut off

Wayburn Stricklen
Barney Wayburn Stricklen, son of Herman L. and Ora Mae
Squires Stricklen, was born January 15, 1915, near Bogard, Missouri. He departed
this life Saturday, November 15, 2003, in Christian Healthcare North, in
Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-eight years, and ten months.
Early in
his life he was united in marriage to Grace Turner, and to this union two sons
were born. Grace preceded him in death in 1955.
Later, he was united in
marriage to Norene Green, and they shared several years before her passing.
His parents also preceded him in death.
Barney is survived by two sons, Eddie
Burdette Stricklen, and his wife, Cathy, of Decatur, Illinois, and Tommy Wayburn
Stricklen, and his wife, Pam, of Phoenix, Arizona; two granddaughters, Amanda
and Ashley; a brother, L. B. Stricklen, of Lebanon, Missouri; two sisters, Irma
Stricklen, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Flo Burden, of Plainville, Kansas; a number
of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He
was born and raised in Carroll County, Missouri, and graduated from high school.
He served his country faithfully in the United States Army from April 14, 1942
until November 16, 1945. He was stationed on Christmas Island and in Hawaii
during World War II. After receiving his honorable discharge from the Army, he
made his home in Warrensburg Missouri where he was employed as a salesman for
the Goodall Lawn Mower Company for several years. He then moved to Tucson,
Arizona, where he owned and operated motels for over thirty years. Soon after
retiring in the middle 1990's, he moved to Lebanon, Missouri.
In his spare
time he enjoyed square dancing and round dancing, bowling, and visiting with his
family and friends.
Barney was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and
uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. He will be fondly remembered and
greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Services will be held at
10:00a.m., Tuesday, November 18, 2003 in the Holman-Howe Drawing Room. Burial
will follow in the Sunset Hills Cemetery, Warrensburg, Missouri. Visitation will
be held from 7-8:30p.m., Monday evening under the direction of the Holman-Howe
Funeral Home, Lebanon, Missouri.

Chad and Aimee (Moos) McLaughlin, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2003, at Via Christi

CAWKER CITY --- Melveta Glee (Sue) Stoutimore, 78, Cawker City, died Tuesday,
Nov. 4, 2003, at Downs Nursing Center in Downs. Sue was born July 11, 1925, in
Clifton, the daughter of Emery F. and Mabel R. Huffman Klein. She was baptized
as a young girl at the Methodist Church in Clifton. She married Jack L. Riggs on
June 1, 1944, in Salina. He preceded her in death on Aug. 30, 1945, while in the
service. She married Farrel E. Stoutimore on April 21, 1948, in Salina. He
preceded her in death on July 1, 1984, in Stockton. She also was preceded in
death by her parents; and her twin brother, Melvin Gale Klein; and brother,
Henry Gilbert Klein.
Survivors include her oldest daughter, Debra Ann Roth
and husband, Rollin, Cawker City; and grandchildren, Holly Renee Roth and Stacey
Leigh Roth; her son, Scott Allen Stoutimore and wife, Tyna Stoutimore,
Phillipsburg; and a grandchild, Calli Layne Stoutimore; and her youngest
daughter, Janis Sue Zillinger and husband, Mark, Topeka; and grandchildren, Alex
Paige Zillinger, Amie Nicole Zillinger and Aric Micah Zillinger.
She was a
homemaker most of her life. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and a member
of the ESA in Stockton. Sue moved from Clifton to Salina in the seventh grade,
where she graduated from Salina High School on May 28, 1943. After her first
marriage to Jack Riggs, she moved to northeast Oregon. Upon Jack's death, she
moved back to Salina where she met and married Farrel Stoutimore. They lived in
Salina until 1951, and then moved to Stockton. They lived in Stockton until
1961. They then moved to Goodland, then back to Stockton in 1963, where Sue
lived until 1985. She moved to Salina, where she lived until April 2002. Sue
then moved to Cawker City, where she lived until her death.
Services will be
at 11 a.m. Friday at Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home in Stockton with the
Rev. David Hardy officiating. Interment will follow in Stockton Cemetery in
Stockton. She will lie in state from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 to 10:30
a.m. Friday at the funeral home, where family will receive friends from 7 to
8:30 p.m. today.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bird Aviary at
Downs Nursing Home and may be sent in care of the funeral home.

Craig resident Beulah June
Traylor died Oct. 9, 2003, at The Memorial Hospital. She was 72. Traylor was
born June 1, 1931, in Stockton, Kan., to Joseph and Martha (Clark) Thompson.
Traylor was raised and attended school in Stockton, graduating from high school
there. She lived in Stockton and Belle Plain, and for many years in northern
Arkansas and Missouri. She was married to Walter Traylor for 13 years. Traylor
worked for the Missouri State Home in Fulton as a nurse's aid for many years.
She moved to Craig about two and a half years ago. She was a member of the Mite
Society in Kansas and attended the First Christian Church in Craig.
Traylor
is survived by her daughter, Nellie McDougal, of Decatur, Ark.; sons Gary
(Jaydene) Thompson, of Craig, Tommy (Sheri) Nash, of Missouri, and Jimmy Nash;
12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Lucille Lemmonds, of
Sacramento, Calif.; and brothers Raymond Thompson, of Craig, and John Thompson,
of Commerce City.
Traylor was preceded in death by her parents, a sister,
Genieve Henry, a brother, Donald L., and her husband, Walter Traylor.
Services were Oct. 17, 2003, at Sunset Meadows I with Beryl Wright officiating.
Honorary pallbearers were all June's family and her many friends.
Services
were concluded at Sunset Meadows.

November 5, 2003 at Hays Medical Center. Born February 9, 1909 in rural

she married Otto O. Vopat in Wilson Kansas.
They moved to Russell where she
worked as a store clerk fop J.C.Penny. After a short while they moved to
Dubuque, Kansas where they raised their two sons Eugene O born April 15, 1946
and Joseph (Jerry Joe) born February 25, 1950. The family moved to Plainville in
1958 where Georgianna worked 10 years for Duckwalls. They lived in Plainville
for 45 years. She lovingly raised their sons and cared for her husband during
his extended illness.
Georgianna loved being around her family, volunteering
at Rooks County Nursing Home and sharing with the community and friends. She
will be especially remembered for her many handmade craft items that she gave
away freely as gifts,
Survivors include a son, Gene (Trish) Vopat of Hays
Kansas, daughter-in-law Vopat, of Hays sister Meg Soukup of Wilson. Five
grandchildren, Vopat, Katy (Matthew) Schmidt, Ashley Vopat, (Blaine) Flack,
Caleb Vopat and two great grandchildren and Tyler Schmidt all of Hays.
Services are Saturday November 8, 2003 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in
Plainville, Rev. Joe Popelka , celebrant. Interment was in the Wilson Catholic
Cemetery.
Arrangements are by the Plainville Funeral Home.

Marcotte on Sept. 20, 1938, at Zurich; she died Jan. 6, 1997. He was postmaster
at Damar prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus,

-- Jesse A. Hunt, 77, of Palco, Kan., died Thursday (Oct. 16, 2003) at Rooks
County Health Center in Plainville, Kan. He was born July 24, 1926, to John and
Elizabeth (Deirking) Hunt in Lebanon. He was a 1945 graduate of Lebanon High
School. On Aug. 9, 1945, he married Jean Lafferty in St. Francis. In 1970, the
couple moved to the Palco area, where he began farming. He was active as a 4-H
leader for many years and he was a faithful member of the Redline Church of God
in Palco.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, James Hunt; two
infant children; two brothers, Lester and Alvin Hunt; and three sisters, Agnes
O'Hare, Alice Schultz and Dolly Goedken.
Survivors include his wife Jean of
Palco; one son, Jerry Hunt of Wichita, Kan.; three daughters, Dorothy Lawver of
Wakeeney, Kan., Kay Lynn Rogers of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Jane Rudman of
Halstead, Kan.; one brother, Junior Hunt of Imperial; one sister, Elaine
Peterson of Palisade; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services
will be Monday, 2 p.m., at the Redline Church of God in Palco with the Rev. Ron
Fontenot officiating. Burial is Tuesday, 10 a.m., at the Lebanon Cemetery in
Lebanon.

TRENTON -- Hilda
Shaffer, age 78, passed away Sept. 23, 2003.She was born to Pete and Jenny
(VanDyke) Nyp in Palco, Kan., Sept. 23, 1925. Hilda grew up and graduated in
Palco, after which she worked in various cafes. While working at Ellsworth,
Kan., she met and married Dick Shaffer. To this union a son, Merlin, was born.
They called Trenton home. Hilda cooked at the Soo Paw Cafe for 30 years. She
loved to cook and was a great seamstress and homebody. Hilda lost her battle
with cancer Sept. 23, 2003.
Preceding her in death were her parents, four
brothers and one sister.
Survivors include her husband; son, Merlin;
daughter-in-law, Rita; one brother, Harley; special friends, relatives, nieces
and nephews.
By Hilda's request, there will be no viewing or services. The
body will be cremated and a private burial is at Trenton Cemetery.
She is
sadly missed by friends and family.

Friday (Aug. 29, 2003) at Pleasant View Home in Inman. He was born Oct. 10,
1916, to Henry P. and Marie (Ediger) Nachtigal in McPherson County. He married
Marjorie Regier June 11, 1944, in Inman. She survives. He had worked for the
Kansas State Fair for 37 years as maintenance director. He graduated from Inman
High School. He was a farmer in Harvey County for many years. He was a past
member of the Kiwanis Club in Buhler and he worked for the MCC sale board for 22
years. He was a member of the Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church in Inman and the
Kansas Mennonite Men's Chorus. He also was a trustee at Hoffnungsau Church.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Diane McReynolds of Woodston and Suzanne
Jones of Canton; two brothers, Frank E. Nachtigal of Inman and Paul E. Nachtigal
of Washington; three sisters, Tillie E. Schmidt of Inman, Wanda E. Claassen of
Newton and Ruth D. Carter of Nixa, Mo.; six grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: four brothers, Richard
Nachtigal, Henry E. "Hank" Nachtigal and infant twins Henry Nachtigal and Peter
Nachtigal; and a sister, Nellie Nachtigal.
Funeral service was held Monday at
Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church in Inman.
Burial was in Hoffnungsau Cemetery in
Inman.

Osborn in Topeka. They lived in Pensacola, Fla., during World War II, then moved
to Stockton.
She assisted her husband in his law office for many years and
was active in civic work in the community. She was a member of the First
Congregational Church and P.E.O.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Mark Osborn,
Frazer, Pa. two daughters, Priscilla All Augusta, and Barbara Humpert, Winfield
eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Her husband and a son,
Robert W. Osborn, preceded her in death.

Florence Wertko, 88, died at 10:15 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at Cartahge
Nursing and Rehab. She was born March 12, 1915 in Woodston, Kan. to Harvey and
Mary (Hoar) Allen. Mrs. Wertko graduated high school in 1932. She attended Salt
Lake City Business College in Hutchinson, Kan. She later attended South Western
Bible College in Enid, Okla. She worked several years with Southwestern Bell
Telephone Co. She entered full time ministry after she met and married Rev. Mike
Allen Wertko. They worked in Ark., Okla, Texas, and other states as her husband
led in evangelistic and pastoral work. They were married for nearly 50 years.
They were laborers together for God. He preceded her in death Aug. 6, 1990. Mrs.
Wertko was a member of First Assembly of God Church.
She is survived by a
son, David Wertko, Cartahge, and a sister, Laura E. Price.
She was also
preceded in death by one daughter, Rosemary Ann Wertko, Feb. 28, 1944, at birth.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12 at Ulmer Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation is open.

Wednesday, July 23, at her home. She was born March 24, 1934, in Plainville,
Kan., to Henry and Ina (Artman) Thomas. On Jan. 22, 1955, she married Derryl
Goes in Plainville KS. Mrs. Goes was raised in Plainville and graduated from
Fort Hays State College with a degree in elementary education with a minor in
music. She was a homemaker, mother, wife and the best grandmother in the world,
who loved the mountains, reading, knitting and crocheting.. Mrs. Goes love of
music began at a very young age. At age 12, she began playing the church organ.
She later spent 19 years as organist at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Greeley,
12 years as organist at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Thornton, and the past
five years as organist at St. Stephen’s church in Northglenn.
Survivors are
her husband, Derryl of Westminster two daughters and sons-in-law, Laura and
Hulsey and Kris and Jim Hill, all of LaSalle a son, Greg Goes of Tucson, Ariz.
and five grandchildren, Kelli Hulsey of Bershad, Ukraine, and Benjamin Hulsey,
both of LaSalle, Elizabeth Hill of Philadelphia, and Jamie Hill of Denver. Also
surviving are two sisters, Lola Rodgers and Marilyn Curtis, and a brother, Glenn
Thomas.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Stephen’s Lutheran

Kan., and graduated from Webster High School in 1933. On Oct. 5, 1938, she

where she was a beauty operator. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic
Church in Oberlin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband,
Joseph; and two brothers, Ward and Herold Gilliland.

son, Steve Martin of McCook; one daughter, Joelene Johnson and husband, Bruce of
Canon City, Colo.; one sister, Berniece Zerger of Arvada, Colo.; and six

Rogene “Gene” Janet Keiswetter, 80, of Great Bend, died July
16 at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. She was born Sept. 14, 1922,
at Clay County, Neb., the daughter of Leslie and Myrtle Wilson Wakelin. She
married Noble Keiswetter July 24, 1943, at Smith Center. He died Dec. 17, 1994.
She had worked as a secretary for Western Power and Gas Co., a predecessor of
Aquila. She was a Great Bend resident since 1956, coming from Oklahoma City,
Okla., and was a former resident of Alton and Woodston. She grew up in
Fairfield, Neb. Mrs. Keiswetter was a member of First Christian Church, Order of
the Eastern Star, and did much volunteer work with Great Bend schools and the
churches. Survivors include two sons, Allen Keiswetter and wife, Gerda, and
their daughters, Sesa and Emma, all of Arlington, Va., and Doug Keiswetter of
Great Bend and his daughters, Jenna and Kaitlin, both of La Crosse; and two
sisters, Mildred Kahman and Maxine Wells, both of Hastings, Neb. She was
preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Wakelin and Bill Wakelin; and one
sister, Geraldine Steiger. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church with
the Rev. William F. Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday, all at
Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Memorials are suggested to the church

School in 1941. He attended St. Joseph Military Academy and Fort Hays State
University. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II.
He married Doris
Marston on Nov. 26, 1947. He was a lifetime area farmer-stockman.

Thompson, Smithville, Mo. four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church,
Plainville burial in the church cemetery.

p.m. today at Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel, Plainville. A parish vigil service
will be at 7 p.m. today at the church followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary.

Service for Mr. Fletcher, 77, is set for 10 a.m.
Tuesday in the Plainville Church of the Nazarene in Plainville. Burial will be
in the Plainville Cemetery.
Born on Sept. 16, 1925 in Virgil, Kan., he
married Maxine Simms in Plainville. Mr. Fletcher was a graduate of Plainville
High School and worked as a pumper for Lario Oil & Gas Co. for 36 years,
retiring in 1987.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth
Tatman Fletcher a twin brother, Lloyd, and another brother, Feryl Fletcher and
two sisters, Audrey Morrow and Helen Agard.
Survivors also include his wife,
Maxine Simms of Plainville two daughters, Norma Lynn Lambeth of Salina, Kan.,
and Kay Ann Ray of Bethlehem, Ga. three sisters, Mardell Young of Los Angeles,

attended schools at Oakdale, Pumkin Center and Tahlequah. He married Bertha
Glacken Nov. 5, 1985. They had lived in Tyron and Tahlequah, and moved to
Wagoner in 1997. Ray was a truck driver, and most recently worked for Transwood
Trucking in Pryor. He was a member of the Church of Life in Wagoner. Ray was
preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, R. C. and Arnold Woodward. He
is survived by his wife, Bertha, of the home; four sons, Koy Ray Woodward of the
home, Cody Pickering and wife Tracy of Tyrone, John Pickering of Pryor, and
Michael Woodward of Liberal, Kan.; two daughters, Tina O'Leary and husband Brent
of Wylie, Texas, and Michelle Jesko and husband Brad of Des Moines, Iowa; three

brother and sister-in-law, Delwan and Norma Krob of Omaha. Also surviving are
four grandchildren six great-grandchildren and a niece, Diane Krob.
Mrs.
Hunter received her education in Rooks County, Kan., and graduated from
Plainville High School in Plainville, Kan., in 1938. She married Woodrow K.
Hunter on April 9, 1939, in Manhattan, Kan. The couple lived in Lexington before
moving to Grand Island in 1958.
She was also preceded in death by her
grandson, Aaron, in 1979 and her first daughter-in-law, Jovita Hunter, in 1982.

Eldon and two grandsons. She is survived by two sons, and Kenneth one daughter,

Breckenridge
CENTER CITY, Pa. — Lloyd Lee Breckenridge, 68, died Thursday,
May 15, 2003, at Graduate Hospital. Mr. Breckenridge was born and raised in
Woodston, Kan. He earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the
University of Kansas, Lawrence, in 1956. He served in the Army from 1958 to 1959
as an intelligence specialist at Fort Holabird, MD., and Fort Hood, Texas. In
1962, Mr. Breckenridge moved to Center City and went to work as a chemical
engineer for Mobil Oil at its research facility in Paulsboro, Gloucester County.
He stayed with the firm until his retirement in the late 1990s. In retirement,
Mr. Breckenridge was a docent at the Rosenbach Museum and Library and a
volunteer at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and with the IRS, where he helped
people complete their income tax forms.
Survivors include his wife of 39
years, Kit; two sisters, Anne Grothusen of Ellsworth, Kan., and Imogene Hughes
of Topeka, Kan., and a brother, Dick Breckenridge of Tyler, Texas. A private
service was conducted May 25 at Woodston.

Department for 25 years.

Forest and Veda VanHorn. Dorothea graduated from Stockton High School in
1944 where she met her future husband Duane Riffel and they became high school
sweethearts. She later attended Denver Business College in Denver Colorado.
After graduation she was employed by the Boeing Modification Center in Denver,
which modified B 29 airplanes. After World War II Duane and Dorothea married and
enjoyed 57 years, 2 months and 5 days of a cherished life together. She was a
member of First Presbyterian Church in Springdale. Dorothea was a past president
of The Heart of the Lakes Hospice organization, now known as Outreach in The
Hills. and a volunteer worker at Haven House for Victims of Domestic Violence in
Heber Springs, Arkansas.
She is survived by her husband Edward Duane Riffel,
three sons Dennis Riffel of Fairhope, Alabama, Douglas Riffel of North Little
Rock, Arkansas, Bradley Riffel of Canton, Ohio and a daughter, Kathy Herriman of
Fayetteville, Arkansas. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, and 1
great-grandchild in addition to a host of friends and other relatives. Dorothea
leaves behind two sisters, Elaine Korb of Stockton, Kansas and Joan Owens of San
Antonio, Texas.
Her memorial service will be Wednesday, April 23rd at
11:00am, at First Presbyterian Church, in Springdale with Rev. Stewart Smith
officiating .
Dorothea and Duane lived in the Mystic Isle Subdivision near
the town of Greers Ferry,AR. for 25 years and have many old friends there. An
additional memorial service will be at the Holiday Hills Methodist Church in
Greers Ferry on Friday, April 25th at 11:00 am, with Rev. Denzil Stokes
officiating.
The Cremation internment will be at Olmstead Cemetery at
Fairfield Bay. There will be no service at that time.

flowers, please. For those who wish to give a Memorial in her honor it is
suggested they be directed to the Women's Group, First Presbyterian Church, 100
South Gutenson Road, Springdale AR, 72762-3810. For those in the Greers Ferry

2003, at her home. She was born June 9, 1915, in Osborne to Oscar and Grace
(Lambert) Hoar. She married Gerauld Dunlap on Dec. 16, 1934, in Esbon. He died
Sept. 2, 1986. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include a son, Lee, Stockton; a
daughter, Gloria Pauley, LaPalma, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and 15
great-grandchildren.

department for Fort Hays State University for more than 25 years before
retiring. She was a Hays resident before moving to Salina.
Survivors include
two sons, Eugene, Jacksonville, and James L., Baldwin City two daughters,
Karolyn Breneman, Hedville, and Donna S. Johns, Omaha, Neb. a sister, Margery
Carter, Cheyenne Wells, Colo. 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She married Roy Mayhew on Sept. 30, 1936, in Stockton. He preceded her in death.
She was a teacher, retiring from the Plainville school district.
Survivors
include a son, Bill Lawrence a brother, Gordon Bigge, Casper, Wyo. three
sisters, Royer, Plattsmouth, Neb., Esther Cross, Sylvan Grove, and Ruby Schmitt,
Boise, Idaho two grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

Norman
W. Vaughan passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2003 at his home at Rossmoor in
Walnut Creek, California at age 82 after a battle with cancer. He was born in
the railroad station at Delia, Kansas where his father was the station agent.
His father was soon transferred to the station in Plainville, Kansas, so Norman
lived most of his early life there. He met his wife, Ethel, in Plainville where
she taught school for her first year. Norman served his country in the Navy
during World War II after which he went to work as a purser in the Merchant
Marine. He sailed over much of the world and retired in 1986. He and Ethel lived
in the San Rafael California area where she served as a teacher. After
retirement they built a home at Point Reyes Station, California and moved there
in 1988. In October of 2002 they sold their home and moved into Rossmoor at
Walnut Creek. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2003 at 2:00
p.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Point Reyes Station. Memorial gifts may be

driver, hauling livestock and farm products.

died Jan. 5, 1999. A lifelong Plainville area resident, he was a farmer, manager

His wife, died in 1996.

She was born April 12, 1907, in a sod house at Webster to Jessie and
Mattie (Danner) Cline. The family moved to another sod homestead southwest of
Codell, then later to Codell.
She married Mike Loreg on June 7, 1922, in
Stockton. He died Sept. 5, 1977. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include four
daughters, Helen McKenna and husband Loyal, Lyons, Collins, Hoisington, Marjorie
Boeckner, Hays, and LaDonna Flax and husband Adolph, Ellis four sons, and wife

Hoisington and a sister, Esther Cline, Centerville, Mo.
She was preceded in

1933 in Damar, Kansas, he was a resident of Poway for 33 years. He was a Master

worked as a Real Estate Broker for five years, and Auto Sales and Financing for
10 years. He was a member of Coast to Coast, and enjoyed traveling, camping,

volunteered for the United States Air Corp in 1941, serving in England. He was
discharged in 1943 and returned to Fort Hayes Teachers College and graduated in
1946. He began working for Kansas Nebraska Gas Company in Phillipsburg, Kansas
in 1946. In 1947, he married Doris Blaylock and in 1953, he was transferred to
Hastings, Nebraska. He retired in 1969. He then was owner/operator of Stewart
Oil & Gas Leasing Company until his death. He was a member of the American
Legion and V.F.W.
Lynn C. Stewart was preceded in death by his parents, son
Ronald in 1999, 2 brothers (1 a young child in 1918) and 2 sisters .

Plainville, Kan. He was born Aug. 3, 1924, in the same house that he passed
away, to George and Catherine (Stahl) Hageman. He graduated from Plainville High
School in 1942. He was a farmer and rancher all of his life and worked as a
bridge foreman for Rooks County, Kan., for 20 years, retiring in 1993. On May
14, 1952, he married Helen Geibler in Catherine, Kan. He was a member of the
Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus in Plainville, and a past
board member of the Farmers Co-op in Hays, Kan.
He was preceded in death by
his parents.
Survivors include his wife, of the home two daughters, Gish of
Houston, Texas, and Staab of Kersey, Colo. seven sons, of McCook, Terry, and
Steve of Plainville and of Hays one brother, Roy of Cambridge 27 grandchildren

Glenn Seth Ellis, 85, died February 19, 2003, at the
Parkview Nursing Home in Osborne. Glenn was born April 12, 1917, to Cordian and
Maggie (Phillips) Ellis. Glenn was the youngest son of ten children. Glenn grew
up on a farm six miles west of Kirwin.. Glenn and his brothers enjoyed swimming
and fishing in the Solomon River in the summer time and ice-skating on the
Solomon during the winter. During later years, he also enjoyed taking his family
to the Kirwin Lake to picnic and fish. Glenn graduated from Kirwin High School
in 1935 and in 1942 he joined the Army and served in World War II in Egypt as a
radio operator. Glenn was honorably discharged in 1945. On July 12, 1945, Glenn
was married to Faye Davidson. To this union were born five children: and Mark.
spent many years as a farmer on a farm five miles south of Glade. In 1971 Glenn
and Arlene moved to a farm north of Woodston. And in 1981 Glenn and Arlene moved
from Woodston to Downs. loved being a farmer. Glenn spent many hours milking
cows, plowing, one-waying fields, planting, and putting up hay. Some of Glenn's
children's fondest memories are of working on the farm with their Dad. Glenn was
an excellent cattleman and he thoroughly enjoyed riding horses. loved all his
children and lived before them the way that he wanted them to live. believed in
hard work and telling the truth. said many times to his children, ``Can't never
did a thing.'' From 1990 to 2003 Glenn lived in two nursing homes. first lived
in the Lucas Nursing Home for four years and then spent nine years at Parkview
in Osborne. was a member of the Rose Valley United Methodist Church. Many times
he helped his wife Arlene clean the church.
Glenn was preceded in death by
his parents, Cordian and Maggie by his brothers, Eddie, Claude, George, Arthur
and by his sisters, Clara and May and one grandchild,
Glenn is survived by
his wife, Arlene, of 57 years and his children, Marvin and Jodi Ellis of Salina,
Leslie and Lois Ellis of Lebanon, Lynette and Floyd Chapman of Hoxie, Kenton and
Joyce Ellis of Russell, Mark and Melanie Ellis of Minneapolis 16 grandchildren
and 5 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral
services were held Saturday, February 22, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at the Rose Valley
United Methodist Church with Pastor John Elton Hunter and Rev. Harold Ellis
officiating.
The duet of Becky Davison and Betty Jo Banks sang ``The
Unclouded Day,'' ``Daddy's Hands,'' and ``I'll Fly Away.'' Becky Davison served
as the pianist.
Pallbearers were Eric Ehlers, Phillip Ellis, Luke Ellis,

Lumpkins Wells Nelson, 72, formerly of Palco, KS, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003,
at Hays Medical Center, Hays, KS.
She was born Aug. 1, 1930, in Codell (Rooks
County) KS to Roy Erwin and Della May (Benedict) Lumpkins. She attended the
Turkville school near Codell. She was a homemaker.
She married Clarence James
Wells in 1947, in Osborne County. He died June 6, 1976. She married Lorenz R.
“Smokey” Wassenmiller who died in 1987. She married Charles “Chuck” Nelson, who
died in 1989.
Survivors include four sons, James Wells and Ray Dean Wells,
both of Medicine Lodge, Lee Wells Zurich, and Russell Allen “Rusty” Wells, Damar
three daughters, Barbara Jeanne “Jeannie” Nichols, Burnet, Texas, Susan Kay
Wells, Palco, and Corliss “Joanne” Johnson, Bogue three brothers, Lumpkins,
Liberty, Texas, Earl Lumpkins, Great Bend, and Lumpkins, Holyrood two sisters,
Lorna Kay Lumpkins, Hays, and Virginia King, Parker, Colo. 16 grandchildren and
nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl
Wells.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel,
Plainville burial in Plainville Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m.
today and from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral chapel.
Memorials are
suggested to the Royalynn May Lumpkins Wells Nelson Memorial Fund and may be
sent in care of the Farmers & Merchants Bank, Bogue.

Unknown Newspaper Junior "Hoot" Gibson
Junior “Hoot” Gibson, 82, of Junction
City, Kan., died Friday, Feb. 13, in Junction City. Mr. Gibson was born March 3,
1921, in Marceline, Mo., to Rube and Cora Gibson. Mr. Gibson moved to eastern
Kansas when he was young. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He served with the 9th
Armored division in Germany. On July 17, 1943, he married Leona Combs in
Naponee, Neb. Mr. Gibson was a heavy equipment operator for Rooks County Highway
Department for many years. He loved to rodeo with McComb and Sons, breaking
horses, bulldogging, working with cattle and horses, spending time in the great
outdoors and was a rodeo pickup man. He worked as a cowboy on the LOX ranch, 39
miles northwest of Greeley, and was a foreman of Ehrlich Feedlot north of
Windsor. After he became disabled, they moved back to Stockton.
Survivors are
his wife, Leona; three daughters, Betty Spieka and husband Bob of San Diego,
Peggy Williams and husband Jim of Loveland, and Roberta Farson and husband Larry
of Riverton; a sister, Loreane Studer of Aurora; a sister-in-law, Pauline
Southard of Stockton, Kan.; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
A
son, Doug Gibson, is deceased.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at
Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home in Stockton. The Rev. Herman Lambrecht will
officiate.
Interment will be at Stockton Cemetery with military honors by
Monroe-Taylor-Barnes Post No. 8873.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m.
Wednesday and 9-8 p.m. Thursday.

ZURICH - Dorothy E. Smee, 81, died Tuesday, Feb.
11, 2003 , at Phillips County Retirement Center in Phillipsburg. She was born
April 7, 1921, east of Zurich to William H . and Rosa (Mead) Smee. She was a
lifelong area resident, farming near Zurich all of her life. She was a
homemaker.
Survivors include her sister, Rosalie Stithem, Plainville.
She
was preceded in death by her companion, Austin Thomas, December 1997.

Betty J.
Walker, 79, Beatrice, Nebraska, died Sunday, February 2, 2003, at The Ambassador
Nursing Home in Lincoln, Nebraska. She was born May 26, 1923, at Plainville,
Kansas. She was a 1941 graduate of Mankato High School. She lived in Plainville,
Hunter and Mankato, Kansas. She married Max Walker on November 3, 1941 at
Belleville, Kansas. They lived in Chickasha, Oklahoma, San Antonio, Texas and
Denver, Colorado, until moving to Omaha, Nebraska, where they lived from
1955-1958. In 1958 they moved to Beatrice, Nebraska. She worked at the Beatrice
State Developmental Center in the 'Goodie Shop' until her retirement. She
enjoyed gardening, flowers, traveling, camping with her family, and feeding the
squirrels and birds.
Survivors: Sons: Dallas Walker and wife, Jackie, of
Yutan, Nebraska, Gary Walker and wife, Sherri, of Lincoln, Nebraska, James
Walker and wife, Dana, of Gulf Shores, Alabama; Daughters: Jan Beckwith and
husband, John, of Bradenton, Florida, Carol Overbeck and husband, Bill, of
Colorado Springs, Colorado; 9 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; Brothers:
Bob Weavering and wife, Doris, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Rex Weavering and wife,
Frances, of Mankato, Kansas, Darrell Weavering and wife, Shirley, of Topeka,
Kansas; Sister: Norma Beasley of Ponca City, Oklahoma.

Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at Hays Medical Center. He was born Aug. 13, 1917, in
Woodston to George and Verna (Vanderlip) Young. He was a farmer in the Woodston
area.
Survivors include his wife, Georgia Young, of the home; two stepsons,
Bob Corwin, Crescent, Okla., and Eugene Noble, Castle Rock, Colo.; a daughter,
Linda Casillas, Stockton; four stepdaughters, Marilyn Bliss, Osborne, VerJean

OBERLIN — Joseph H. Barber, 83, died Wednesday (Jan. 28, 2003) at the Decatur
County Good Samaritan Center in Oberlin.
He was born Nov. 11, 1919, in
WaKeeney, Kan., to Joseph Abraham and Minnie Mable (Hawks) Barber. He was raised
on a farm in Rooks County, Kan. He attended Sand Creek School and graduated from
Codell High School.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On July
20, 1946, he married Joyce Elaine Glinther. He worked as an oil field pumper.
They lived in Rooks County until 1968, when they moved to Cambridge. He then
moved to the Decatur County Good Samaritan Center. He was a member of the
Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was preceded in death by his parents wife, 1994
daughter Nancy Jo, four brothers, Virgil Barber, Lumpkins and Marion Lumpkins
one sister, Ethel Trexler and one grandson.
Survivors include three sons,
Robert Barber of Spencer, Iowa, Randy and wife, Jerri Barber of Danbury and John
Barber of McCook three daughters, Judy and husband, Gene Boucher of McCook, Mary
and husband, Steve Goltl of Fort Worth, Texas, and Bonnie Woofter of Indianola
one brother, Barber of Hays, Kan. 14 grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday, 11 a.m., at the
Christian Church in Plainville, Kan., with the Rev. Verl Clark officiating.
Interment will be in the Plainville Cemetery at Plainville.
Visitation is
today until 8 p.m., at the funeral home in Oberlin and Thursday after 9 a.m. at
the church in Plainville.
Memorials may be given in his name.

GRAINFIELD - Orley L. Musgrove, 84, died
Sunday, Jan. 26 , 2003, at Sheridan County Long Term Care in Hoxie. He was born
Feb. 16, 1918, in Woodston. He married Corinne Stone on Jan. 22, 1939, in
Jewell. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a mail carrier in
Manhattan for 30 years before retiring in 1985, moving to Grainfield.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a daughter, Constance Musgrove,
Grainfield; three brothers, Albert, Peoria, Ill., J.C., Longmont, Colo (article

Marian F. Benfield, 95, Waterville, died Wednesday, Jan.
8, 2003, at the Blue Valley Nursing Home in Blue Rapids.
A service was at
10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 14, at the Waterville United Methodist Church with the
Rev. Paul Wolf officiating. Bevy Roepke sang “Because He Lives” and “Precious
Memories,” accompanied by organist Jeri Bourne. Pianist was Beverly Hedke, and
Darla Dick played bell chimes.
Pallbearers were Zachary Reynolds, John
Reynolds, Melvin Roepke, Jim McAtee, Greg Kissner, Earl DeWyke and Lyle Spain.
Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery, Waterville.
She was born Dec. 29, 1907,
at Plainville, Kan., the daughter of James and Maggie McCutcheon McAtee. The
family moved to Waterville in 1908 and she graduated from Waterville High School
in 1927. On March 18, 1928, she married George K. Benfield. In 1929, the couple
moved into the home they had built at 337 W. Commercial Street in Waterville.
She sang at funerals, clerked at Mac’s Mercantile for $1.50 a day and later
helped her husband in the garage by running the front office and selling parts.
She was a member of the Waterville United Methodist Church. She sang in the
choir for 71 years, taught Sunday school for more than 50 years, started the
junior choir and participated in the women’s activities. In her later years, she
helped at the grade school library, delivered Meals on Wheels, wrote for the
Waterville Telegraph and was a Waterville Ambassador welcoming new members to
the community.
She was preceded in death by her brother, A. N. “Jim” McAtee,
and her sister, Eleanor Roepke.
Survivors include George, her husband of 74
years; a daughter, Barbara Baxter, Erie, Mich.; four grandchildren; and nine
great-grandchildren.

Warren
Donald Truesdell, 82, of Caldwell, passed away Sunday, Jan. 19,2003, at a
Homedale care center. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m.Thursday, Jan. 23,
at Deer Flat Free Methodist Church, 17703 Beet Road,Caldwell, with Pastor Allen
Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at the Wilder Cemetery. Warren was born
July 16, 1920, in Palco, Kan., to Willis Harrison Truesdell Sr. and Florence
Pauline Truesdell. He moved along with his parents and brothers to Colorado when
he was four years old. He attended Combine Country Grade School and Eaton High
School for three years. Farming was his life, and he also said it was his hobby.
In November 1937, when he was 17 years old, he moved to Idaho with his parents
and three brothers. On Dec. 14, 1941, he married Rena Esther Goin. Their one and
only son Don was born on Sept. 10, 1942. All four Truesdell brothers are and
were farmers. In earlier years they worked together helping each other and
exchanging equipment. In the later years Warren and son Don farmed together. In
December 1958, Warren and Rena purchased a farm and home in the Sunnyslope
community. Warren retired in1983, leaving the farming to his son, Don. Warren's
life centered around his son Don and his grandsons. Survivors include wife, Rena
of Caldwell;son, Warren Donald "Don" Truesdell Jr. and wife, Joan of
Greenleaf;grandsons, Bill and wife, Lisa Truesdell of Caldwell, Ken Truesdell of
Caldwell, and David and wife, Mary Truesdell of Wilder;great-grandchildren,
Taylor Ann Truesdell, Kelsey Shea Truesdell, Mercy Reyes, and Victor Peralez;
six nieces and three nephews; brothers, James Truesdell and wife, Julie of
Wilder, and W. H. Truesdell Jr. and wife,Mary of Caldwell. He was preceded in
death by his parents; sister,Annabelle; brother, Edward; two nephews and one
niece. Donations in memory of Warren may be made to Mountain States Tumor
Institute, 308 E. Hawaii, Nampa, ID 83686; or Deer Flat Free Methodist Church.

She was born June 14, 1935, in Greenleaf, the daughter of Dewey and Bernice Bell
Peterson. She was a Waterville High School graduate. On Dec. 20, 1953, she
married Galyn Peterson in Waterville. They were co-owners of Peterson Hay in
Stockton. She worked in the past for the Solomon Valley Manor, the Stockton
Florist & Ceramic Shop. She was a secretary for the Stockton Chamber of
Commerce. She was a homemaker and a longtime Stockton area resident.
She was
preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Patty Dean.
Survivors include
her husband of the home; two sons, Gary Peterson, Brookings, S.D., and David
Peterson, Stockton; a brother, Jim Peterson, Riley; and four grandchildren.

Woodston High School in 1948. She married Duane L. Keirns on Sept. 4, 1949, in
Stockton. She was a homemaker and worked on the family farm near Woodston.
Survivors include her husband, of the home; two sons, Ronald, Stockton, and
Steve, Phillipsburg; three brothers, Bob McCall, Woodston, Don McCall (article
