6 May 2004 Jefferson County News (Arvada, Co.) Molly Maddox
Goodberry’s waitress allegedly shot, murdered by husband
Molly Maddox, a 52-year-old waitress at Goodberry’s Restaurant in Arvada, allegedly was shot in the chest and killed by her estranged husband April 28. After allegedly killing his wife while parked inside a minivan, Michael Maddox, 57, shot himself. Police said he was taken to St. Anthony Central Hospital, where he later died. The couple, which had been separated for about nine months, had been drinking together before the shooting, police said. The incident took place near the 1000 block of Emerald Street in Broomfield. Molly Maddox reportedly told coworkers at Goodberry’s that day that she suspected a man had been following her. Shelli, a waitress at Goodberry’s who preferred not to use her last name, said Michael Maddox began pestering his wife about a month ago, and she was planning on moving into a new apartment. She didn’t want to tell her husband about the move because he had been threatening to follow her, Shelli said. Molly Maddox’s visit to her husband came as a surprise to Goodberry’s employees. “I knew that one of (Michael’s) employees had come in looking for her a couple of days before, but I don’t know why she might have gone to see him,” Shelli said. Mike Livesay, a manager at Goodberry’s, worked with Molly Maddox four days a week for two years. Livesay said he didn’t notice anything suspicious in her behavior prior to the shooting. “It really shook up everyone here at the restaurant, but we’re all getting through it in our own way,” Livesay said. “In time, things will go back to normal. For right now, we’re just doing what we have to do. We’re still working and keeping things moving, but it’s definitely been a tough time.” Shelli said Molly Maddox was well-liked by the restaurant’s employees and customers. “We worked together for two years. She was kind of quiet but had a really good sense of humor, really witty. She got embarrassed easily,” Shelli said. “We all liked her.”
A service for Maddox is at 10:30 a.m. at the Woodston Methodist Church in Woodston, Kan. The public is invited to attend a memorial hosted by Goodberry’s at 2:30 p.m. Monday, May 10, at the restaurant, 5700 Wadsworth Bypass.

Lucile Farrington died peacefully on May 21, 2004. She was born Helen Lucile Montgomery on April 12, 1911 in Plainville, Kansas. Lucile was the quintessential 20th century American. Her parents moved the family in a covered wagon from their farm near Plainville to the railroad station on their move back to Missouri.
Lucile attended Roman Catholic schools in Moberly, Missouri. Days after her sixteenth birthday, her beloved mother, Mary Velma died. Her father, Joe, worked for the Wabash Railroad and Lucile was very helpful in raising her younger sister and brother. After church on Sundays, she would take them to the local drugstore owned by the Farrington brothers. On May 15, 1931 she married Owen Farrington. They spent their honeymoon in St. Louis and went to a baseball game. She and Owen were lifelong fans of the Cardinals.
She and Owen played bridge together and after four decades became Life Masters in Duplicate Bridge.
In 1943, Lucile and Owen purchased Holsten’s Rexall Drug Store in Alliance, Nebraska. They moved from St. Louis with their children, Dan and Janet and lived in the Drake Hotel for several months, as housing was difficult to find because of the active air base. During the next twenty-five years, Lucile maintained the financial records for the store. She enjoyed going to market in Denver and meeting with other pharmacist families.
While rearing her family, Lucile began to needlepoint, sew and macramé. She started painting in the early 1960’s and thoroughly enjoyed taking art lessons. As a golf widow, she devoted many hours to china painting and creating “Nama” masterpieces that now adorn the homes of her friends and family. She was very pleased to earn Best of Show in the Box Butte Art Society’s annual show in the 1970’s.
Lucile and Owen enjoyed going to the horse races. They traveled to various towns and eventually owned a few thoroughbreds and had a lot of fun at the track.
She was devoted to her family and supported her children and grandchildren in furthering their education. After sixty-eight years of marriage, her beloved Owen died in 1999. For the past fours years, she has lived with her daughter Mary Jo and family.
