Edwin A. GORSKY

Edwin A. Gorsky, was born April 15, 1926, near Trego Center, KS, to the late Joseph Frank and Amalie �Molly� (Michaelis) Gorsky. He passed away Monday, May 30, 2011, in the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital at WaKeeney at the age of 85.

He was baptized in Zion Lutheran Church at Trego Center and later confirmed in Bethlehem Lutheran Church in WaKeeney in 1938. After graduating from Trego Community High School with the class of 1944, Ed entered the United States Army in August of 1944 to serve his country. He was honorably discharged July 8, 1946. He was very proud of his military involvement and the fact he served during WWII.

On May 18, 1947, Ed was united in marriage to Vera Jean Spradling in Casper, Wyoming.

Ed earned his B.S. degree from College of Emporia and later earned his Master�s degree from the University of Kansas. He had a strong passion to educate young people which propelled him to work as a high school teacher, coach, guidance counselor at Bonner Springs, KS, and a college administrator at Bethany College, Lindsborg, KS, Lindenwood College, St. Charles, MO, and Park University, Park, MO. His educational career spanned forty-eight years.

Ed was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, and a life member of the Randall Reid VFW Post #3449 and the American Legion Moore Post #197, all in WaKeeney and he was also a lifetime member of the National Education Association. He was an avid fisherman.

Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Vera Jean; a son, Dale and his wife, Cherlyn; three grandchildren, Shana Williams and husband, Scott, Cara Chafetz and husband, Paul, Brandon Gorsky and wife, Sophia; two great-grandchildren, Blake Alexandra Chafetz, Everett James Williams; a brother, Joseph Gorsky and wife Ellen; and a sister, Marvel McGuire. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Two brothers, August and Julius Gorsky; and three sisters, Helen Connor, Ruth Conness, and Greta Dice, preceded him in death.

Services for Ed were held Thursday, June, 2, 2011 in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church at WaKeeney with Pastor Randy Gibbs officiating. Interment is in the WaKeeney City Cemetery.
