Nelda Novella Hillman was born June 26, 1933 in Cheney, MO to Reuben Roy and Mayme (Elam) Reid. She passed away at her home in WaKeeney, KS on July 3, 2009, at the age of 76.
On December 7, 1951, Novella was united in marriage to Walter Junior Hillman in Bakersfield, CA. In 1971, they moved from Hutchinson to the family farm near Ogallah. For their 50th wedding anniversary, Walter and Novella renewed their vows at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church with a small gathering of friends. Walter passed away July 23, 2002. After Walter's death, she always talked about him and how she really missed him.
Novella was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in WaKeeney. She loved to play bingo and often traveled to Hays several times a week.
Survivors include two nephews, Dennis Reid and John Adkins; and three nieces, Janet Hixon, Betty Madson, and Patty Munson.
Preceding her in death was her husband of over 50 years, Walter; a brother, Earl Reid; and a sister, Delores Adkins.
Graveside services were held Friday, July 17, 2009 in the WaKeeney City Cemetery with Pastor Randy Gibbs officiating.
