Etta Albertina MEYER

Etta Albertina Meyer was born April 28, 1920, on a farm NE of WaKeeney, KS,
to the late Julius Gustav and Cecil Etta (Hughes) Sitz. She passed away
Thursday, June 16, 2011, in the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital at
WaKeeney, at the age of 91.
She lived with her family in Trego County and attended country schools through
the eighth grade. She graduated from Trego Community High School with the class
of 1938. She moved to Loveland, CO in 1939 to live with her sister,
Mamie.
On May 15, 1941, Etta was united in marriage to Adolph Gustav Meyer of Spencer,
SD. They farmed for twenty years and in 1960, moved to Canova, SD where they
operated a trucking business for the next twenty years. Etta worked as a truck
driver, bar maid, nurse�s aide, and secretary. During World War II, Etta was a
teletype operator in Mechanicsburg, PA. Gus passed away December 22, 1980 at the
age of 60.
In 1986, she returned to WaKeeney to help take care for her 98 year old mother
who passed away in 1987. She moved to Phoenix, AZ in December of 2006 to reside
with her son, Richard.
Etta was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, the Senior Companion Program,
both in WaKeeney, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Canova,
SD.
She leaves to mourn her death, four sons, Larry and wife, Sheila, Robert, David
and wife, Karlene, Richard; a sister-in-law, Betty Sitz; nine grandchildren, Kim
Ditsworth and husband, Dan, Loren Meyer and wife, Kathy, Jeffrey Meyer and wife,
Beth, Melissa Steevers and husband, Travis, Shonda Jo Meyer, Krista Jo Gonzales
and husband, Edgar, Justin Meyer, Bridget Meyer, Trevor Meyer; two
step-grandchildren, Kim Truax, Kasey Buising; eleven great-grandchildren,
Joshua, Kelsey, and Kaitlyn Ditsworth, Robbie Ludovissi, Logan Meyer, Alec and
Tannen Steevers, Isabelle Meyer, Joshua and Grace Gonzales, Sarah Ludovissi; a
sister-in-law, Betty Sitz; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Preceding her in death, her husband, Gus; two brothers, Leo and Hubert Sitz; and
two sisters, Mamie Finkbeiner and Emma Reeder.
May the joy of knowing Etta and the tender memories soften our grief as we bid
farewell to her today. Her beautiful spirit endures.
Interment in the WaKeeney City
Cemetery.
