Elmer J. TILTON
~Western Kansas World, WaKeeney, Trego County, Kansas, January 11, 1951Elmer J. TILTON, son of George and Sarah TILTON, was born in Brown County, Indiana, December 10, 1871. In 1885 he moves with his parents to Delphos, Kansas. Two years later, in 1887, he came to Trego County. He began farming just north of Collyer and continued to farm until February, 1909 when the family moved into Collyer, when he began the telephone business in which business he continued until he retired.
E. J. TILTON was united in marriage to Clara B. AUSTEN, December 31, 1893. To this union four daughters were born, Mrs. Florence SPARKS of Hill City, Mrs. Minnie BURBACH of Collyer, Mrs. Bertha HUBALEK of WaKeeney, and Mrs. Ellen BARNES of LaCrosse, Kansas. There were 9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren. He leaves also 4 brothers, John of Collyer, Clarence of Sharon Springs, Kans.; Ira of Valpariso, Indiana, and Bert of Boone, Colo.; 2 sisters, Mrs. Ella AUSTIN of Collyer, and Mrs. Lillian CURRY of WaKeeney, Kans.; many other relatives and a large circle of friends and neighbors. Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist Church in Collyer on Saturday afternoon with Rev. J. P. Wiley officiating. Burial was in the family lot in the Collyer Cemetery.
