Wanda Lee Wilds, 83
Wanda Lee Wilds was born November 9, 1926, in rural Ellis County, KS to the late
Cecil E. and Jessie Elizabeth (Wolf) Vine. She passed away Sunday, March 21,
2010 in the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital Long Term Care in WaKeeney at
the age of 83.
As a child, Wanda attended Cedarvale Country School in Ellis County through the
eighth grade, graduated from Hays High School in 1943, and received her teaching
degree from Fort Hays State University in 1947. After teaching two years in
Garfield Elementary School in Garden City, Wanda returned to FHSU for graduate
work. While in college, she was a member of Kappa Phi and Pi Gamma Mu
sororities. Wanda also played the bassoon in the FHSU community orchestra and
various other ensembles.
While in college, Wanda met Neff E. Wilds and they were married March 29, 1951
in the St. Michaels Episcopal Church at Hays, KS where Wanda was baptized and
confirmed as a child. Together, they farmed in rural Trego County. Neff passed
away March 18, 2008.
Wanda was a member of the Banner Methodist Church until it disbanded. She later
became a member of the First United Methodist Church in WaKeeney. She also
belonged to the Half Century Club at FHSU, the United Methodist Women�s group,
the Order of Eastern Star Margaret Chapter #249, the GFWC Tourist Club, the
American Legion Moore Post Auxiliary and the Midweek Campers group.
She enjoyed knitting, reading, painting and various crafts, crocheting and loved
giving gifts. She also enjoyed collecting bells.
Those left to mourn her passing are her sons, Allen and wife, Carmen, Eric and
wife, Angela; three grandchildren, Wendy, Seth, and Evan Wilds; a
great-grandchild, Destiny Foss; a sister-in-law, Margaret Vine; and numerous
nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services for Wanda were held Wednesday, March 24, 2010 in the First United
Methodist Church at WaKeeney, KS with Reverend Glenn Krebs officiating.
Interment is in WaKeeney City
Cemetery.
