This may be William COLE, who is listed as the owner of the farm my grandparents (Jesse and Mildred HUSCHER) bought circa 1940, called the Cole Place.
It is listed as Section 16, in township 6 south, range 3 west, in the 1885 Atlas of Cloud Co., KS edited by Jeanne Chubbuck. We have a nice etching of the Cole farm house circa 1880, showing members of the Cole family, that was found in the Cloud County Historical Society. William COLE and his family are likely listed on the 1880 and 1900 federal census, as well as the newly released Kansas State Census for Cloud Co., KS, available from the Cloud Co. Genealogical Society. I believe it is in Center township.

12 September 1999, Jon W. Marx, jliamarx@att.net
I am researching my CARVER ancestry and have recently seen reference to a book that may have relevance to my research on the CARVER surname: George W. Carver of Cloud County Kansas. His Ancestry from Robert Carver of Marshfield, Plymouth Colony and Some of His Descendants. Authors given as Renee Carver, Jenna Carver and David Carver. Vol. 1 & 2. Modesto CA. Library of Congress No. CS71.C3281983.
My great grandfather, Andrew CARVER, had an older brother George Washington CARVER who moved to Kansas, date unknown. He, Andrew, and his wife Elizabeth LICKLEY CARVER are reported to have lived in Kansas for 2 years, again dates unknown. One reasonable assumption is that they lived near brother George. Andrew and his father Increase appear to be traceable to Robert CARVER of Marshfield.
If anyone has access to this book I have two questions:
1. Are the parents of George W. given as Increase and Adah BIGELOW (or DOOLITTLE) CARVER, and father of Increase given as Aldric and Aseneth TARBOX CARVER?
2. If the answer to that question is in the affirmative, do you know where I might be able to order a copy of this set for my library?
Thank you for your assistance.

I have inquired in Clay County and was unable to find information about Robert or Jane's deaths. In 1880, they were 80 and 78 respectively. Am hoping to find an obituary for Jane Dunn listing her survivors. Believe her to be sister of Adam Barber who was alive and living in Meigs County, Ohio. Do death records exist from the early 1880's in Cloud County and/or are there cemetery records from that era? I note there is a Bloom Cemetery in Miltonvale NE. Is that in Cloud County? I don't know if U All saw my summons for help for the missing Parentage of ORA LOGAN MADDOX. BY A STORY I RECEIVED FROM A DAU OF ORA HE HAD A BRO.. THAT LIVE IN THE THREE STATE CORNER MO. KS. OK, BUT CAME OUT OF TEXAS & OK. I am going to re post my First E-mail to the maddox Cousins rootsweb.
HI Cuz, I am looking for the missing link of Maddox in My family tree. The Maddox are a Mystery Family. The Family I am looking for are located In Idaho and Oregon now. They came out of Texas and OK. to South Dakota to Kansas(Cloud Co.) then down the Oregon Trail. When they departed the Texas, Ok area they also departed the family ties, due to some kind of family Feud This was in 1860 or abouts ??
Ora L. Maddox b. 1-8-1888 in Chamberland Brule County South Dakota d. 2-4-1959 Weiser Washington County Idaho. At this time his Parentage is Unknown, but Possibility a Mary A. was his Mother ? I did fine the location of Internment for him and his wife Treasure L ( Sevey) Maddox b.-7-7-1895 d.5-8-1932 and a Mary A Maddox b.6-14-1850 d.6-21-1924 in Mann Creek Cemetery Washington County Idaho. There were children of his and Treasures marriage 3 Boys and 1 Girl, her name is Imogene Mae ( Maddox ) Murray b.8-19-1921 Weiser Washington County Idaho. The Three boys DOB are unknown to me at this time. All the boys are living and live in Oregon and Idaho. Two Are World Champion Rodeo Cowboys (PCRA) Bull Riding and Calf Roping. Imogene is my Mother-In-Law and I and my wife Pamela have been working on the Maddox Family Tree.
There stories that Imogene was told when she was a little Girl about the Family, but the family didn't talk about the passed, and not of family. Like this Mary A. Imogene told me that she can remember her as granny, but her dad Ora didn't talk about her after her death. The One thing that I have found out is that the story about Ora's Mother & Father going to a Indian Reservation in South Dakota was true. While I was checking out the South Dakota Information I found that a Comanche girl was enrolled in the Indian School at Chamberland, her Name was Harriet Maddox and she was out of Oklahoma at the time of Ora's birth.
With more checking I found a William S Maddox b.1833 he was in the Union Army Station at Farragut Post # 52 Spearfish South Dakota. His Company was Company D 9th Ind.. Legion. He enlisted in Jennings County IND... In the South Dakota State Veterans Cemetery at Falls River Hot Springs County South Dakota The Internment of William S Maddox d. 5-30-1901 .
Now to tie this to the Ora Maddox. Imogene stated that she think her Grand Father first name was William or Willie or Wills ? That her father Ora told her that her Grand father died in the Idaho State Veterans Hospital in Boise Idaho and was taken back to South Dakota.
BOY DO I NEED HELP WITH THE PARENTAGE OF ORA LOGAN MADDOX

HENRY HERVEY IS CONCORDIA'S RIP
VAN WINKLE
(From unknown Concordia Kansas Newspaper July 1928) ____
Looking up old friends and talking old times, Henry H. Hervey whose homestead place in Summit Township used to be called "The Light-house," was in Concordia today after an absence of 23 years. "I feel a good deal like a Rip Van Winkle." he said. "Concordia has changed so much that I'd scarcely know it, and most of the men I knew in the pioneering days seem to be out in the grave yard now." But he doesn't look in the least like a Rip Van Winkle. He seems well and strong and in good spirits. He says that he has been traveling all over the country visiting among his 13 children.
HE CAME HERE IN 1871
Coming from Indiana to Concordia, Hervey took up at residence in Summit Township just on top of the divide between Concordia and Beloit. In the early days travel through that region, especially in the winter was dangerous business and the nights when the wind was high and there was driving snow and sleet Hervey used to light a large oil lamp, put it on a table in the center of his little 16 by 20 shack, put up the shade and let the light shine out of the windows that were built in the sides of the shack. That was the way his place got the name of "The Light house."
"Many a night," he said, "my wife and I took people in when they had lost their way on the road. There was I. J. Crans, He and a friend of his were on their way from Concordia to Cawker City one night in December. The got lost and were nearly frozen to death, but they found their way to our shack and spent the night with us. Some of the old timers will remember Crans. He was a lawyer here in the early day and a good lawyer he was too. He came from Philadelphia."
[Among early settlers] Hervey named Malcom McKimon, Charlie Sweet, Homer Kennet, and Judge Sturges, "And then there was Jim Hagaman who used to run the Blade" he said. "When he wrote he always used to out right through to the red, especially if he was writing about politics."
Hervey knew the White boys who lived out on White Creek. "Their mother had been carried away and their father killed by the Indians just a few years before he came west. Years later when Mrs. White was brought back she married a man by the name of Brooks and they were neighbors of mine in town.
RAILS REACH HERE IN 1877
Hervey told of the Railroad coming through in '77, "Up until that time we used to haul our stuff to Greenleaf for shipment;" he said, "but for a while after we had the road we weren't much better off. The cars were so dilapidated that they would not even hold our grain, a commission was appointed to inspect the road and then stock began to go down. Some of it was privately owned. I sold mine for ten cents on the dollar."
"Those were hard days. My land wasn't much good and seven times I was hit with terrible hail storms. Then there was the year that there was cholera among the hogs. I lost three hundred. My creditors just about had me by the foot in a down hill pull that time."
Among Hervey's old neighbors and fellow homesteaders in Summit Township was Dr. David E. Moore, father of Mrs. S. C. Piginton of Concordia. "I remember when we ran for the legislature and ousted him. That was in '84. We were important in politics then," said Hervey, "that bunch of us over in Summit township."
Hervey has been living in Missouri and in Iowa in recent years. He came to Concordia from Manhattan where he been visiting relatives. His wife, who died before he left Concordia is buried here and he said he wanted to be in Concordia for Decoration Day. Hervey is 78 years old at the time of the Civil War was a member of the Indiana Militia.

I have noticed the family of Christian C. Stoner who were close neighbors of my McManimie and Henderson ancestors in Nelson township of Cloud County, from at least 1874-1895. Christian Stoner is the witness to the last will of Nelson McManimie in 1882, and makes an interesting deposition a year later for its probate. Possible that the Stoners intermarried with the Wilsons and/or Boyles from IN in the 1824-1850 time period. I am tracking a group of Wilsons, Boyles, McManimies, Pottengers, Dawsons, Secrists, and Stoners who intermarried in KY or PA, migrating to IN in the 1820s, on to IL in the 1850s, and on to Cloud County, KS in the early 1870s.

I am hoping to find additional information on the Otott/Lanoue family. I have
some family information which indicates that they lived in both Clyde and St.
Joseph. It appears that several of the family members may have been buried in
St. Joseph cemetery. (I have no idea where that it is however.) They probably
moved to this area after at least 1870 and several of the family members
appeared to have lived their lives in suroounding areas of Kansas. My family
descends from Benoni and Amelia's daughter Adzana who married Felix Donaldson in
September, 1890 in St. Joseph. Any help and/or direction would be appreciated.

In my husband's line we have Cornelius Archer b: 1838 m: Mahala Jane Glidden b: 1840 on Apr 5, 1857 Noble Co. OH. Their daughter Lillian Archer was born in Concordia, Cloud Co. KS, in 1872. Were either of them living in Cloud Co. before their marriage?
Does anyone have a connection or any knowledge of the Glidden family? We know that Cornelius was a sheriff in Cloud Co. possibly in Concordia. We know that Lillian married John Stewart of Donegal, Ire in 1896. We don't know where they met or married. Was John Stewart in Kansas?

Rev. J.C. Thomas died 6/8/1896 and was buried at Glasco
City Cemetery. He was 68 years 10 months old (Cloud County Early Deaths Vol I).
However I could not find him in the Cloud County Cemetery book for Glasco
Cemetery, meaning he is probably buried in an unmarked grave. In the 1895
Census:
J.C. Thomas 66, household head, born NY
Sarah Thomas, 51, born NY
Orion Thomas, 19, born Iowa
Clara Thomas, 17, born Kansas
Sarah Thomas,
15, born Kansas
Mason Thomas, 13, born Kansas
Haley Thomas (M), 9, born

They lived in Solomon Township. CCED VI says that they lived north

Hope this helps out.

I am trying to track down Sophia CHRISTOFFERS. One of her daughters, Dorette, married, John BERG aka John BERK and moved to Cloud Co., Kansas before 1895. I suspect Sophia joined them about 1896. She was born about 1833 in a German State, emigrated to Canada about 1855 and was widowed in Canada in 1895.

I am looking up family history on my Grandmothers family: The names I have are Thomas Syrie (GreatGrandFather), Cloe "Dodge" Syrie (Great Grand Mother), William Dodge, Deforest Wilson, Martha Strum, John Stabbler, Blanch Stabbler. These are all cousins of Cloe except for Deforest Wilson. My Grandmothers name was gladys "Syrie" Alexander and She was born in Woodward, Ok. on June 15th, 1903, I remember her telling some stories about the family but very few. I have been in contact with Eva Jean Syrie Hawks and Alberta Smith. I have no information about the Dodge family or the Syrie history before Thomas and David Any info I can get will help and I will be glad to share what I have
