The Saint John papers of last week each contained an account of the recent sickness and the death in that city on September 4th of Andrew Aitken, one of Stafford-co's leading citizens and most successful business men. Mr. Aitken had lived in St. John since 1886 and had much to do with the building up of that city and of the development of Stafford-co. He was universally respected and had a host of friends wherever he was known. He was the promoter and a part owner of a number of business enterprises, banks, lumber yards and stores and all who had ever been associated with him in any way were his staunch friends. Mr. Aitken had frequently visited Coldwater and was the proprietor of the Aitken lumber yard in the city managed by O. O. Landes. Mr. Landes in speaking of his old employer said: "I have never known a finer man in every way than was Andy Aitken. He had not only many fine business qualities but was a thorough gentleman and a splendid citizen. I, like hundreds of others, owe much to him in the way of encouragement and help, and his death is a personal loss to me. Such men as was Andy Aitken are a blessing to any community. His memory will long be cherished by hundreds of people."
