He was the son of Howard R. Burnett and the father of Lt. Howard Reason Burnett, USNR, the decorated WWII fighter pilot.

Howard R. Burnett, Comanche county rancher, who suffered a cerebral hemorrhage on December 18 in Sharon, Barber county, while driving to Wichita, died in St. Francis hospital in Wichita Monday night without regaining consciousness. He was taken from the Attica hospital to Wichita last Saturday.Funeral services will be held on Thursday afternoon, December 31, at 2:30 o'clock in the Coldwater Methodist church and burial will be in Crown Hill cemetery near Coldwater.

Was Born and Reared in The New Eden CommunityHoward R. Burnett, who was suddenly stricken with a cerebral hemorrhage on December 22, while near Sharon, Kansas, passed away in St. Francis hospital in Wichita December 29 without regaining consciousness.
Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church in Coldwater on Thursday afternoon, December 31, at 2:30 o'clock and were in charge of the pastor, Rev. Dean W. Dryden.
Walter Smith of Wilmore was soloist and sang "Peace in the Valley" and "Home on the Range," accompanied by Donald G. Booth, organist.
The active pallbearers were Woodrow Beeley, Charles Gregg, Winston Williams, Vernie White, Ralph Einsel and Monte Barnes and the honorary pallbearers were Roy Platt, Marion McLain, Lloyd Rhodes and Fred Lenertz, James McCay, Melvin Patterson Arthur Perry, George Hackney, Robert McMillen, Roland Thompson, Alonzo Richardson and Muriel Gregg. Interment was in Crown Hill cemetery.
Obituary. Howard Reynolds Burnett was born October 28, 1892, in the New Eden community of Comanche county and passed away in Wichita, Kans., December 29, 1959, at the age of 67 years, 2 months and 1 day.
He grew to manhood on a farm in the New Eden community southeast of Wilmore and loved the outdoor life and livestock. In his youthful days he was an active rodeo contestant. He served for many years as the Logan township board member of the Crown Hill Cemetery Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, John Burnett, a sister, Mrs. Edna York, and a son, Lieut. H. R. Burnett, who was killed in a plane crash during World War II.
Mr. Burnett is survived by one son, William Burke Burnett, of Coldwater, Kans., and two daughters, Mrs. Addie Ellen Thomison and Mrs. Anita Ruth Wilkerson of Wichita, and to granddaughters.
