Alonzo C. Ezell died at his home, eight miles southeast of Protection, at noon on last Saturday, September 19, 1925, after an illness of ten days duration, resulting from two paralytic strokes. His health had not been good for some time, but no apprehension had been felt as to his condition until after he was stricken.Funeral services were held in the Baptist church in Protection on Tuesday afternoon and were in charge of Rev. I. W. Bailey, of Ottawa, Kans., a former pastor in Protection. Interment was in the Coldwater cemetery. Many of the neighbors and friends of the deceased attended the funeral and thus showed their respect and esteem for their friend of many years who had passed on.
Mr. Ezell was an early settler in this county. His father Wesley Ezell, was a resident of Valley-tp. for a number of years. Lon was known and esteemed by a large circle of good friends, with whom he had mingled for nearly 40 years. All now feel that in his departure the county has lost one of its best citizens. Mr. Ezell was honest and considerate in all his dealings with his fellowmen. His hospitality and kindness is attested to by many who knew him personally. As a husband and father he was kind and devoted to the best interests of his family. He will be greatly missed in his neighborhood especially in the family circle, but he will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Deceased was born in Ohio-co., Mo., a little over 60 years ago. About the year 1885 the family moved to Kansas, settling in this county. Lon began at an early age to make his own way in life. He devoted his time to farming, and at all times demonstrated that he possessed industry and perseverance.
In the year 1890 he was united in marriage with Miss Dorothy Jarnagin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Jarnagin, who were early day settlers in this county. Mr. and Mrs. Ezell had made their home in Valley-tp., this county, for many years and had by industry and economy acquired a well improved farm and home. Three children were born to this union - two sons and one daughter. The daughter died in infancy. The surviving sons are Willie and Earl. To them and to the wife and mother the sympathy of all goes out in this, their hour of deep affliction.
