Word was received here on Wednesday of this week from Newton, Kans., that Joseph M. Goddard died in that city at 11 a.m., on that day, after an illness of several weeks duration. Mr. Goddard came to Coldwater about five years ago and continued to make this city his home until about two months ago when he was compelled to close out his restaurant business here on account of ill health. He and his wife moved to Wichita, but about three weeks ago Mr. Goddard went to Newton for medical treatment, making his home with his son, Frank, who lives in that city. He was at Frank's home when he died. For a few weeks before his death Mr. Goddard had been completely paralyzed below the hips. He made many friends during his stay in Coldwater. For a couple of years he was leader of the local band. His quiet, unassuming ways and his uniform kindness to all with whom he came in contact left a favorable impression on all who knew him. He is survived by his wife and one son, Frank, who also lived here for a while. It is understood that burial was made in the cemetery near Augusta, Kans., that city being the home of Mrs. Goddard before her marriage.
