Charles A. Griffith, well-known Coldwater farmer, passed away at his home southeast of Coldwater Thursday of last week after a brief illness. Preparations were being made to take him to a hospital that morning, but death came quickly and without any pain.Funerals services were held in the Presbyterian church in this city last Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock and were in charge of the pastor, Dr. S. A. Fulton, Mrs. W. W. Lohrentz and Mrs. J. P. Scholle sang "Rock of Ages" and "Abide With Me," accompanied on the organ by Mrs. E. H. Gregg.
The honorary pallbearers were Raymond Parcel, Victor Gates, Frank Dodson, Roy Boisseau, Robt. Kessee and W. C. Jarnagin. The active pallbearers were six nephews: Charley Arnold of Rozel, Kans.; L. E. Griffith of Modoc, Kans.; W. F. Griffith of Larned, Kans.; Ralph Griffith of Coldwater; Cecil Griffith of Lewis, Kans., and Winfred Griffith of Rush Center, Kans. Burial was in Crown Hill cemetery by the side of his wife.
Obituary. Charles A. Griffith was born November 29, 1873, in Lee county, Iowa, and passed away March 3, 1949, at Coldwater, Kans., at the age of 75 years, 3 months and 3 days. At the age of five he moved with his parents to Pawnee county, Kansas, near Larned, where in 1898 he was united in marriage with Mary Slobohm. To this union were born two daughters: Mrs. Harry White of Coldwater and Mrs. Hugh Allard of Wichita.
In April 1909, Mr. Griffith and family moved to Comanche county where Mrs. Griffith passed away in March of 1939.
On August 4, 1949, Mr. Griffith and Mrs. Ada Booth were united in marriage and she, with the two daughters, eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, three sisters and five brothers survive.
For many years he had been a member of the Presbyterian church. He enjoyed farming and watching things grow and was a very devoted husband and father. He derived great enjoyment from his grandchildren and from life itself. He will be greatly missed by his many relatives and friends. The sorrowing relatives have the sincere sympathy of all.
