Rev. Darrell E. Hecht, pastor of the Rose Hill-Seltzer Springs United Methodist churches near Wichita, Kans., and a reserve chaplain in the United State Air Force, was the recipient of the coveted "Meritorious Service Medal" in a special ceremony on Wednesday, December 22, at the McConnell Air Force Base, Wichita.The service award and medal were presented by Colonel Donald Gaylor, Wing Commander at McConnell AFB.
The citation presented with the awarding of the medal reads, "The United States of America to all who shall see these presents, greeting: This is to certify that the President of the United States of America authorized by executive order, 16 January 1969 has awarded The Meritorious Service Medal to Major Darrell E. Hecht for outstanding service 1 November 1967 to 31 August 1976 given under my hand in the city of Washington this 8th day of November 1976."

Chaplain, Major Darrell E. Hecht distinguished himself in the performance of outstanding service to the United States as a Reserve.
Chaplain, 381st Combat Support Group, McConnell Air Force Base, Kansas, from 1 November 1967 to 31 August 1976. During this period, the outstanding professional skill, initiative and constant availability of Chaplain Hecht aided immeasurably in accomplishing the mission of the chapel section and enhancing the image of the Air Force Chaplaincy in the civilian community. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Major Hecht reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
