Obituary

J. W. Hoch was born in Shipensburg, Cumberland county, Pennsylvania, September 5, 1870. Moved from there to Reno county, Kansas in 1895 where he married Miss Elizabeth Ewing in 1896. They came to this county in March 1906 where they have since resided. In 1901 Mr. Hoch had a severe sickness which left him afflicted the rest of his life. He departed this life January 5, 1916 after a short illness, aged 46 years and 4 months. He united with the Presbyterian church ar Arlington, Kansas about 17 years ago and still retained his membership there at the time of his death, having kept in touch with it all the time. But he and Mrs. Hoch both helped in the work of the Methodist church near their home, where he renewed his faith in an allegiance to His Master in the recent meeting held there.

Brother Hoch was a very fine neighbor and friend and held the respect and good wishes of all his neighbors and acquaintances. A short service was held at the home Thursday, January 7, conducted by Rev. P. L. Mawdsley after which the body was taken to the old home at Arlington, Kansas, for interment. He leaves besides his wife, a brother, Prof. J. F. Hoch, and a sister, Mrs. Claude Simpkins, both of this place. We regret very much to have to give up this friend but such is life. However we cherish the hope that need never again say good bye. May we all so live here that in the life to come we shall be united around the throne of our Lord and Master where parting shall be no more.
