DEATH OF FORMER WILMORE RESIDENT
Mrs. W. Z. Kennedy, mother of W. H. Kennedy of Wilmore, passed away at her home in Mulvane, March 17, 1938, after only a few days illness. She made her home in this county with her son for eleven years, prior to 1922 when she returned to her former home at Mulvane. Funeral services were held in the Mulvane church last Friday afternoon and were in charge of Rev. Walter M. Austin, formerly of Coldwater. Burial was in the Mulvane cemetery.
Sarah Elizabeth Smart was born in Morgan county, Illinois, February 2, 1859. At the time of her death she was 79 years, 1 month and 15 days of age. On September 14, 1876, she was united in marriage with William Z. Kennedy of Jacksonville, Ill. To this union six children -four daughters and two sons- were born. She is survived by one son, W. H. Kennedy of Wilmore, Kans., and one daughter, Mrs. Edith F. Williams of Delhart, Texas and by many grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Mrs. Kennedy was of the rugged type of American citizen who pioneered in the West. This good woman moved to Wichita county, Kans., with her little family in 1886 and remained until 1889 when the family moved to Mulvane. Mr. Kennedy passed away August 3, 1931.
