We are called upon to chronicle another serious accident which happened Tuesday evening of this week. Misses Josie Cele and Emma Kern started out about 6 o'clock, on the evening above mentioned, for a horse back ride and they had gone but a very short distance, when opposite Wm. Murray's residence on west Main street, Miss Kern's horse for some cause stumbled, throwing her over its head, and while her feet were still in the stirrup, the horse stepped upon her neck, cutting an ugly gash under her chin. The horse then dragged her a short distance, but was caught in time to save her life. The young lady was conveyed home, and Dr. Halliday called in, who proceeded to sew up the wound, which proved to be a bad one, as the horse's shoe had cut through to the jaw bone, and was from 2 to 3 inches in length. Miss Kern stood the surgical operation of sewing up the wound heroically, and is now resting easy, though it will be some time before she will be able to be about again.
