FUNERAL OF R. E. MCGAULLY
Funeral services for R. E. McGaully, who died on January 4, were held in the Presbyterian church in this city on Thursday afternoon of last week, January 6, Rev. John W. Carrier, pastor of the Coldwater M. E. church, was in charge. Charles Korff sang "Going Down the Valley," "Does Jesus Care?" and "God Will Take Care of You." Mrs. A. A. White was the accompanist.
The pall bearers were: O. M. Poer, Fred Winkler, N. D. King, L. T. Cullins, F. J. Keesee and Sewell Tarr. A squad of war veterans fired a salute to the dead at the cemetery and the bugler of the local Sons of American Legion squadron, Norman Butcher, sounded "Taps."
The following obituary was read at the funeral service:
Robert Emmet McGaully, son of William and Mary McGaully, was born November 19, 1874, in Clay Center, Kansas, and departed this life at his home in Coldwater, Kansas, January 4, 1938, at the age of 63 years, one month and 15 days.
He made his home in Clay Center until in 1898, when he enlisted in the army and served during the Spanish-American War. He was a member of Company D, 23rd Kansas Volunteers. After the war, he returned to Clay Center.
On February 7, 1901, Mr. McGaully was united in marriage with Elizabeth Ann Hackney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Hackney of the Lookout, Okla., neighborhood. They lived in that vicinity until about 1912, when they moved to Coldwater. Mrs. McGaully preceded him in death on October 12, 1933.
To this union one daughter, Ardinell, was born. She, with her two sons, Bobby and Donald Burnett, are left to mourn their loss. Mr. McGaully also left four sisters: Mrs. Lena Dubois of Hinton, Okla., Mrs. Emily Anderson and Mrs. Alice Walker of Clay Center, Kans., and Mrs. Kathryn Stanley of Joplin, Mo., and one brother, Grant McGaully, of Denver, Colo.
R.E. McGaully is most likely buried in Crown Hill Cemetery.
Other news articles on this site spell his surname as McGauly, not McGually. It is unknown to the webmaster of this site whether his name was Robert Emmet McGually or Robert Emmet McGualy.
