Jessie H. Polley, who was a pioneer settler in this county, died on December 19 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. T. J. Harvey, near Sharon, Kans., after an illness of a week or more. Burial was made on Wednesday, December 21, in the Sharon cemetery.Mr. Polley settled on a farm a couple of miles south of Protection in the year 1885, and there he lived for about five years, and was one of the best known citizens of the county.
In the year 1889 he went to the new country of Oklahoma, finally settling on a good claim in Woodward-co., where he continued to make his home most of the time. Had Mr. Polley lived until the 11th of next January he would have been 94 years of age.
He was the father of six children, four of whom survive, as follows: Mrs. W. M. Taylor of this city, Will Polley of Hutchinson, Charley Polley of Bucklin, Mrs. Henry Harvey of Sharon, Kans., and Amos Polley, whose present address is not known. Mr. Polley had been twice married.
