DAVID F. ROBERTS
ObituaryDavid F. Roberts was born in Bennington, Switzerland county, Indiana, on September 18, 1839, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. S. W. Baugh, near Wilmore, Kansas, on April 17, 1918.
He grew to manhood in the state of Indiana. At the breaking out of the Civil War he enlisted in the 26th Indiana volunteers, served for three years and received an honorable discharge.
He married Amanda E. Dennis, August 24, 1865, near Indianapolis, Indiana. Four children were born to them; Clarence D. who was killed by lightning, May 15, 1888; Walter V. when last heard from was at Yazoo City, Mississippi; Charles E. of Kansas City, Missouri and Ada B. of Wilmore, Kansas.
He and family removed from Indiana to Kentucky in 1873, residing there until 1883, when they came to Pleasanton, Kansas, residing on a farm near the Battlefield school house until the death of his wife, May 14, 1914, when he removed to the home of his daughter, Mrs. S. W. Baugh, near Wilmore, Comanche county, Kansas.
The body was taken to Pleasanton, Kansas, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Baugh, where the funeral was held in the M. E. church at 3:00 p.m. Friday, April 19th, conducted by C. W. Wood assisted by the Masonic Lodges. Interment was made in the Battlefield cemetery.
Mr. Roberts was a highly respected citizen, ever ready to assist those in distress. He enjoyed the quiet home life best, often speaking of his old neighbors and friends at the old home in Linn county.
