At right: Robert Richard Sanders, U.S. Navy, World War IIThe funeral services for Robert R. Sanders of Medicine Lodge were held in the Christian church in Coldwater, Friday, January 23, at 10:30 a.m. and were in charge of Mr. Sanders' pastor, Rev. Lester Myers, of Medicine Lodge.
Mrs. Luther Lemon, Mrs. Winston Williams and Mrs. Jimmie Hazen sang "My Prayer" and "No Night There," accompanied by Mrs. Roy Burkhall.
The active pallbearers were Forest Smith, Phillip Hackney, Ray Keller, John Hecht, Grant Long and David Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Winston Williams, Clinton Herd, Norman Long, Andy Six, Asa Hoofer and Harold Emerson.
Interment was in Crown Hill cemetery.
Obituary. Robert Richard Sanders was born November 5, 1925, in Comanche county, Kansas. He attended the Coldwater schools and at the age of 17 he left school to join the armed forces. He served his country for four years in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He served aboard a destroyer in the Pacific area during the heaviest fighting.
On August 12, 1945, he was united in marriage with Miss Doris Seyfrit of Coldwater.
After the completion of his navy service, Bob and his wife made their home in Coldwater, where he operated the Standard filling station and later worked for the Standard Oil Company.
For the past four years Bob and his family have been living in Medicine Lodge, Kans., where he was employed by the Western Light and Telephone Co.
Last spring Bob made his confession of faith in Christ and was baptized in the Christian church in Medicine Lodge.
Bob departed this life January 19, 1959, at the age of 33 years, two months and four days. He is survived by his wife, Doris, and three children: Bonnie Faye, Richard Dean, and Terry Gene; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Sanders of Coldwater, four brothers; Charles and William of Coldwater, Dan of Denver, Colo.; and Walter of Blackpool, England. Two sisters and one brother preceded him in death.
The untimely passing of this fine young man elicits the sympathy of all.
