At left: Pvt. Calvin Schmidt, U.S. Army.

Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo. Pvt. Calvin Schmidt, son of Paul Schmidt of Coldwater, Kans., has completed a 14 week training cycle here with a unit of the 6th Armored Division.

As a trainee, he received six weeks basic training in the fundamentals of Army life and the use of infantry weapons. He has also completed an additional eight weeks engineering training. Competent instructors taught him the use of pioneer and power tools, construction of fixed and floating bridges and related subjects besides additional combat skills.

At the end of the 14 week training cycle with the famed "Super Sixth," the men completing training here will be sent either to specialist school or sent as replacements to other units after a leave home.

Pvt. Schmidt reported to Kansas City, June 12 and will then likely go to Seattle, then to the Pacific theater.
