Mrs. Kessiah Shepherd, wife of N. Shepherd, died shortly after midnight on Friday morning, February 20, 1920 of the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. F. Ramsey, who lives on the Jacob Reiss farm, 4 1/2 miles southwest of this city. Burial was made in the Coldwater cemetery on Friday afternoon. Funeral services were conducted at the cemetery by Rev. J. T. Wheeler, pastor of the Christian church in this city. About a month before her death Mrs. Shepherd and her husband came to this county from Gotebo, Okla., to make a visit with their daughter and family. Soon after their arrival here Mrs. Shepherd became ill and she grew gradually weaker until death came.Mrs. Shepherd was born in Whitney-co, Ky. on January 27, 1835. Her age, therefore, at the time of her death was 85 years and 24 days. On January 11, 1855, in Kentucky, she was united in marriage with Nimrod Shepherd. About 14 years ago Mr. and Mrs. Shepherd moved from Kentucky to the province of Alberta, in Canada, and there they lived for 11 years, moving from there to Oklahoma, where they had made their home for about three years. Mrs. Shepherd had been a professed Christian since 1858 and her entire life had been one of loving and willing service for those about her. For 65 years she had been a faithful companion of her husband, and in countless ways she had manifested the highest qualities of the devoted wife and mother. Seven children were born to this union - five girls and two boys - all of whom survive. The husband, who is now 86 years of age, also survives. To him and the bereaved children the sympathy of all is extended.
