FUNERAL SERVICES FOR WILLIAM J. SOUTH

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, November 1, at 1:30 at the Coldwater Christian church for William J. South of this city who passed away Tuesday evening in the St. Anthony Hospital at Dodge City, Kans., where he had spent the last several weeks suffering from a gangrenous infection in the foot. An effort was made to save his life by amputating his leg, but to no avail.

Lloyd R. Sparks, minister of the church, conducted the services. Burial was made in the Lake City cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Gurney Hadley, accompanied by Miss Velma Crowe, sang "The Old Rugged Cross," "Under His Wings," and "Because He Loved Me So."

The pallbearers were Leslie Smith, Earl Martin, John Shimer and Lewis Sailor of Coldwater, and Robert and Everett Sunderland of Santana, Kansas.

The out-of-town relatives who attended the funeral services were: Robert Sunderland and Mr. and Mrs. Everett Sunderland and daughter of Satanta, Kans.; W. G. and Hiram South of Deerhead, Kans., and Mr. and Mrs. Fay Smith and children, Virginia, Lorita, Calvin, and Melvin of Wilmore.

Obituary

William J. South was born January 26, 1871, to Mr. and Mrs. Samuel H. South at Mt. Orb, Brown County, Ohio, and passed away October 30, 1945, at 9:15 p.m. at the St. Anthony hospital in Dodge City, Kans. His death came as the result of a gangrenous infection from which he had suffered for several months. His age was 74 years, 9 months and 4 days.

When but a youth, Mr. South came to this part of the country from Ohio, in 1889, making his residence in Comanche and Barber counties until his death. For the last 35 years he had made his home with his sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Sunderland in Coldwater.

Mr. South was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. He is survived by two brothers and two sisters: Mrs. Rebecca Louderback of Cincinnati, Ohio; Mrs. W. H. Sunderland of this city and Wilson and Hiram South, both of Barber county. He leaves also many nephews and nieces.

Mr. South was a member of the Coldwater Christian church, having been baptized in August, 1942, by the minister, Dwight Lewis. At the close of his life he manifested that he was prepared to meet his Savior. He will be greatly missed by his relatives and friends.
