Obituary of Minnie C. Stapleton

Minnie C. Stapleton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Stapleton was born September 20th, 1904 in Hancock county, Tennessee.

She came with her parents to Kansas April 1915. Minnie was always an active attendant at Sunday school, and of a lovable disposition and made fast friends where ever she made acquaintances. She was also very active in her school work and mastered her problems with ease, until she was taken sick with a severe attack of appendicitis the 18th of last February. After a severe suffering it was found that an operation was necessary, which was performed the 27. She was very low at the time and her recovery was very slow, but she was seemingly making a victorious fight for life. About April 5th she contracted pneumonia. It was thought that even from this she was making her recovery until April 15, 1917 at 1:30 a.m. her spirit took its flight, without a struggle. Minnie died at the age of 12 years, 6 months and 25 days. Besides her parents and five brothers she left a host of friends here and in Tennessee, her former home, to mourn her loss.

The funeral services were held Monday April 16th at 10:30 a.m. at the Methodist Church in Ashland. Rev. Hide, pastor of the Baptist Church and Rev. Corrie, pastor of the Methodist Church officiating. Rev. Hide spoke briefly on the estimate Christ placed upon the children, and heaven being the home of the children and the child-like. Rev. Corrie spoke on how a person's life and action reveal character. The music was furnished by 17 girls of about Minnie's age, who sang in a most beautiful way, We Shall See the King Some Day, God Will Take Care of You and Face to Face with Christ My Savior.

The casket was of white plush, which was covered with a large variety of beautiful flowers contributed by her many friends.

After family and friends were permitted to look, the last time upon the face of their friend and loved one, she was lain away in the Highland Cemetery, Ashland, Kansas.
