The efficiency of Coldwater's new fire truck was demonstrated on Tuesday afternoon of this week. Fire chief James Allderdice received a telephone call thatH. A. Tinker's farm home, three miles northwest of this city was on fire and was beyond control. About half of the fire company were quickly recruited and as the truck has a high speed gear, it was not long in reaching the fire, which was in a small room in which an oil barrel was located. Although the floor and weather boarding of the room were burning, the blaze was quickly smothered by the chemicals in one tank of the truck shutting off the oxygen from the fire. The chemical hose was unrolled by the fire company, the iron plunger broke the bottle of chemicals in the tank and the efficient churn mixed the chemicals and water so that within a few seconds from 50 to 100 pounds of pressure was created. The chemical apparatus worked perfectly. By using chemicals the fire in a building can be extinguished without damage to the contents of the structure, which is not the case when water is used. Mr. Tinker appreciates very much the timely help which Coldwater city gave him with its new equipment.
