From Our Soldiers and Sailors:
Letter from DONNIE KING
August 29, 1918
Dear Father,
I am now dropping you a few lines to let you know that I am still O.K. Feeling very good today. I got up once a bit too soon and it made me sick so I had to go back to bed again. I still have shrapnel in my lung. I don't know if they are going to take it out or not, but think maybe they will. I have enough to carry anyhow, without carrying any extra lead. Ha! Ha! I have a good bed to lie in and plenty to eat. Everything is fixed up Jake here so you don't need to worry about me, for I'll show up in the round-up, for fall. Ha! Ha! Dad, you ought to be a soldier for there are a lot of old maid nurses over here. They would sure take good care of you.
Well, pap, hoping you are well, I will close for this time. With best wishes and hoping to hear from you soon,
from your son,
Pvt. DON KING,
Co. F., 165 Inf. A. E. F.
