Mrs. Ed Young Came to Kansas in a Covered Wagon

Mrs. Ed Young, a resident of Coldwater more than 30 years, passed away in Ashland, Kans., Wednesday of last week, having been ill only about three weeks.

Funeral services were held in the Coldwater Christian church last Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock and were in charge of the pastor, George Brown. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Roy Cline sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "When the Roll Is called Up Yonder," accompanied by Mrs. Jessie Robertson.

Burial was in Crown Hill cemetery by the side of her husband. The pallbearers were six grandsons - Bennie Young, Jack Young, Ed Young, Bill Dale, Jim Young and Ora Young Jr.

Obituary.

Lucy Belle Daily Young was born at Shawneetown, near Springfield, Ill., on March 10, 1874, and passed from this life in the Ashland hospital at 8:10 a.m. She was the second daughter of William Alfred Winfield Daily and Margaret Ann Clark.

She lost her father when she was about three years of age, after her parents had moved by covered wagon to near Pretty Prairie, Kans. Her mother later married A. F. McClaren. She had two sisters, two half sisters and a baby brother.

She became a member of the United Brethren church when still a child, and after moving to Coldwater in 1908 transferred her membership to the Christian church in this city.

On her 18th birthday she was united in marriage with Edwin Stanton Young at the home of a friend in Reno county, Kans.

To this union were born 13 children, four of whom preceded her in death. Joe and Blanche Opal died in infancy, Myra Leone at the age of 9 years, and Henry Stanton at 25 years of age.

Mrs. Young leaves to mourn their loss nine children - three sons and six daughters, 34 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two sisters: Mrs. Arthur Kennedy of Wichita, Kans., and Mrs. Tom Henson of Little Rock, Ark.

Her children are: Mrs. Orville Thornhill and Mrs. Karl Dale of Protection, Kans.; Mrs. Orville Ward, Ora F., Bert, and Neil R. Young of Coldwater, Kans.; Mrs. Ben McKinley of Ashland, Kans.; Mrs. Vernon Inman of Craig, Colo.; and Mrs. Murland Brooks of Westville, Okla.

Her husband died September 2, 1929.

Mrs. Young was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She thought of others always before herself. She tried to live a deeply Christian life and was an avid Bible student.

Through all the sadness of life and her physical afflictions, she never lost her cheerfulness, and joked and laughed with her physician and with her daughter, Mrs. McKinley, with whom she made her home in the days preceding her death.

Many friends mourn with her family in the loss of a noble pioneer mother.
