John Wesley Anderson

OBITUARY

Funeral services were conducted in Pratt from Rosser mortuary Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock for John Wesley Anderson, pioneer cattleman of Kiowa county, who was killed a week ago near his home in Baldwin Park, Calif., when he stepped in the path of an automobile. The Rev. Geo. Wyatt, rector of St. Mary's Episcopal church, officiated. Interment followed in the Greenlawn cemetery at Pratt.

Mr. Anderson was born in Knox County, Illinois, February 8, 1861. He came to Kiowa county when he was 19 years old and proved up a claim near Wellsford. There he met Nancy Lee Stewart, whom he married three years later. They later moved to a ranch four miles north of Wilmore, in Kiowa county and became one of foremost cattlemen of that section. He disposed of his ranching interests there in 1928 and operated a place in Comanche county for a few years. In 1934 he moved to California locating at Baldwin Park.

Mr. Anderson was a charter member of the Wilmore Lodge A. F. & A. M. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Wichita Consistory No. 2. He united with the Methodist church early in life.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Lee Anderson; seven children, Mrs. J. O. Foster, Pratt; Mrs. J. E. Griffin, Wilmore; Mrs. W. A Unangst, Baldwin Park, Calif.; Mrs. F. H. Shearer, Menard, Texas; Mrs. Ben Preston, Wichita; Clifford G,. Medicine Lodge; John C. of Baldwin Park; one brother Frank Anderson of Oregon; three sisters, Mrs. Alf Tarble, Los Angles; Mrs. Emma Cook, Kewanee, Ill., Mrs. Nellie Sedgheer, Oakland, Calif., and four grandchildren.

Pall-bearers at the funeral were T. C. Pepperd, J. P. Griffin, Sam Booth, Joe Booth, C. O. Masterson and C. B. Austin, all of Wilmore.
