Ancestry.com is an offspring of Ancestry Publishing, publisher of The Source, which is, in my opinion, the best resource book on history and genealogy ever assembled. Ancestry.com is every bit as excellent as you'd expect it to be if you are familiar with The Source.

My best advice for conducting your genealogical research is to always be courteous to the librarians, county clerks or anyone else to whom you write for historical records, and remember that courtesy demands that one ALWAYS include a self-addressed, stamped return evelope with each request for information along with, of course. a check to cover the research fee appropriate for your request. *

THEN write again to thank the librarian, clerk or researcher who has taken the time to answer your request for information. If you send flowers or chocolates with your message of thanks to anyone in Comanche County, Ks, who does research for you, please tell them I referred you to them in the first place.

For contact information for local libraries and the county courthouse, see: Records.

Kathleen Gregory of Comanche County, Kansas, is a volunteer researcher for Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness, a global volunteer research organization. You may direct your research requests for Comanche County, Kansas, to her through RAOGK in accordance with the guidelines of RAOGK. Once you have read the guidelines on that site, you will be able to find contact information for her.

Grandma Nellie often quoted this verse:

The heart flies open to very small keys,
And, of them all,
The most important are these:
"Thank you, Sir" and "If you please".

-- Jerry Ferrin

(* I recall a story about Abraham Lincoln having received a letter from someone seeking a bit of advice with his signature, and that he replied: "Dear Madam, When writing to a stranger to request a favor, it is customary to include return postage. -- A. Lincoln")
