George J. Bain, familiarly known as Grandpa Bain, died on last Sunday, April 25, 1920, at his home in Shimer-tp., this county. He had been failing in health for several months, but had been able to be up and about nearly all the time. His last illness was of only one week's duration. Burial was made in the Coldwater cemetery on Tuesday afternoon, following funeral services which were conducted from the Christian church with the pastor, Rev. J. T. Wheeler, in charge.In the passing of Mr. Bain, Comanche-co. loses another good citizen and the family and relatives a devoted husband, father and friend. He had been a resident of this county most of the time for over 15 years. His quiet disposition and rather retiring and unassuming manner did not bring to him an especially large circle of acquaintances, but all who knew him esteemed him highly as a friend and neighbor. He is survived by his wife and seven children - Theodore H. of Stansfordville, N. Y., Adolph, Frederick M., Geo. W., Otto C., Ernest J. and Mrs. Martha E. Shimer, wife of B. C. Shimer, of this county. One daughter, Orvina E., aged 5 years, died on the ocean voyage and was buried at sea.
Deceased was born in Hanover, Germany, on October 26, 1842. At the time of his death his age was 77 years, 5 months and 29 days. On December 2, 1873, in Ulzen, Hanover, Germany, he was united in marriage with Mary Dargel. They came from Germany to this country in November, 1882. They lived at different places up to the time they came to this county. Mr. Bain had for many years been a member of the German Methodist church and had lived consistently in that relationship. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community.
