Erma Florence (Doll) Baird

Erma Florence (Doll) Baird, 82, died Feb. 28, 2000, at Valley Care, Pleasanton, Calif.

Born Dec. 3, 1917, at Larned, to Edward and Olga Doll, she was a 1936 graduate of Zook High School and attended college at Emporia. She received her RN training at General Hospital in Kansas City.

She had made her home in Livermore Calif., since 1965, moving from Walla Walla, Wash. She retired in 1961 from the U.S. Navy, with veterans Administration Hospitals in Walla Walla and Livermore.

A veteran of World War II, she served as a nurse with the Navy in the Pacific theater. Her duties on the USS Bountiful were evacuating and treating the wounded from Saipan, the Philippines, Iwo Jima and Okinawa.

She married James Donald Baird. He died in 1996.

Survivors include: two sisters, Wilma Bailey Pfeiffer of Hillsboro, Ore., and Mary Alice McKinney of Coldwater.

Memorial services were held March 3, 2000, in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Livermore, with Callaghan Mortuary of Livermore in charge of arrangements.
