After a lingering illness, resulting principally from lung trouble. Armond Baker, aged about 49 years, died on Monday of this week in the Wichita hospital, to which place he was taken about three weeks ago. The body was taken to Ashland on Tuesday, burial was made there on Wednesday afternoon, following funeral services which were held in the Ashland M. E. church, the pastor being in charge.Deceased was a son of Leroy Baker, who was one of the pioneer settlers in the neighborhood about five miles northwest of Protection. He was one of the best known young men in that part of the county. Several years ago he and his wife moved to a farm two and a half miles north of Ashland, where they continued to live. Mr. Baker was a hard working young man, and had built up a good home. His integrity was recognized by all, and in his every day life he was a faithful husband and a good citizen and neighbor. His passing away is a distinct loss to the community in which he lived.
Armond is survived by his wife, who before her marriage was Miss Janie Cosby, also by his father, one brother, Pirl Baker, and one sister, Miss Ina Baker, all of whom live near Protection. His marriage to Miss Cosby took place at Nortonville, Kans., on November 16, 1925. To this union one son, Armond Jr., was born, but the little one lived only two days.
Armond had made every effort possible to find relief from his ailment, but to no avail. A few months ago he and his wife made a trip to new Mexico, but with no beneficial results. The many friends of the deceased in this county unite in expressing to the bereaved relatives sincere and heartfelt sympathy.
