Wednesday about noon Wayne, the little son of Frank Baker and wife died at the home in the west part of Protection from measles complicated with pneumonia. The little chap had been operated upon about a week ago for an abscess that had formed on one of his lungs but the progress of the disease was too swift and he was unable to rally and succumbed. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the bereaved parents.

Wayne Frank Baker only son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Baker, was born in Comanche county, August 27th, 1910 and died at the family home in Protection April 14th, 1917, aged 5 years, 5 months and 24 days. Several weeks ago Wayne was taken ill with complications of pneumonia and measles. An abscess formed on his lungs and an operation was necessary. He rallied well from the effects of the surgery, and was seemingly recovering when he took a turn for the worse and the end came in a few days. He made a brave fight for life but as unable to overcome the complications that had arisen.
The funeral was held from the family home in Protection conducted by Rev. Mawdsley of the Methodist church Thursday, April 15th, and interment was made in the Protection cemetery.
The Western Star, April 6, 1917. Wayne Franklin Baker, aged 6 years, 7 months and 3 days, died at 11:20 a.m. on last Wednesday, April 4, 1917, at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Baker, in Protection. Following an attack of measles, a severe case of pneumonia developed. About a week before his death an operation was performed for the removal of pus from his left lung. His strength and vitality were not sufficient to withstand the shock and gradually his life slipped away. Wayne was an exceptionally bright and promising child, the pride of his parents and a favorite among his playmates. The family is well known in this city, having lived here for a number of years. The bereaved parents have the heartfelt sympathy of many friends in this their hour of inexpressible grief. The funeral services were conducted from the M. E. church in Protection yesterday at 10:30 a.m., Rev. P. I. Mawdsley being in charge.OBITUARY
