The Protection Post, May 23, 1912.

ACCIDENTAL DEATH

Little Creta Brewer Accidentally Killed Saturday.

The saddest death that has occurred here for many years, from accidental cause, in this section, was that of little Creta Brewer last Saturday. Mr. Brewer came to town in the wagon, bringing four of the children with him. As he was going home little Creta in some manner lost her balance falling from the wagon in such a manner that the rear wheel passed over her head causing instant death.

This saddest of sad accidents happened about one half mile south of Protection in front of Jacob Zimmerman's suburban place.

The funeral was held Monday from the Baptist church conducted by Rev. J. S. Umberger, and the little form, accompanied by a host of sorrowing friends and relatives, was laid to rest in the local cemetery.

The tender sympathy of the many friends of both Creta and her parents are extended to Mr. and Mrs. Brewer and their family in their sad hour of bereavement and loss. May God deal tenderly and lovingly with them.

OBITUARY

Creta Brewer, the third child of Mr. and Mrs. William Brewer living six miles south of town was born in Cowley county, Kansas, Dec. 28, 1906, died May 18, 1912, age 5 years, 4 months and 29 days.

Her untimely death was caused from a fall from a wagon while on the road home from town with her father and little sisters. Little Creta was loved by all who knew her and little cheery presence will be missed by all. She leaves to mourn her death, a father and mother, four sisters, grandparents, aunts and uncles besides hosts of sympathizing friends who unite in tenderest sympathies with the grief stricken parents.

We commend them to Him who is able to comfort the broken hearted, and to the spirit of His grace, believing that all things work together for good, to them that love God. How real the song:

Not now but in the coming days
It may be in the better land
We'll send the meaning out of tears,
And then sometime we'll understand.

We will catch the broken thread again
And finish what here we have began,
Heaven will the mysteries explain
And then, Ah, then, we'll understand.

We'll know why clouds instead of sun
Were over many a cherished plan
Why songs have ceased when scarce begun
'Tis there sometimes we'll understand.

God knows why He holds the key
He guides us with ____ing hand.
Sometimes with tearless eyes we'll see
Yes, up there we'll understand.
